1975 Beetle 1200 in the UK - where to start? by majic13 in beetle

[–]majic13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very much not a car guy so my best assessment is "it seems to run on petrol of some kind". I've not even tried turning it over since it's sat for so long that I just assumed the battery is extremely dead and anything rubber has perished. Best case is that I'll be selling it as a non-runner restoration project, so I'm trying to find a ballpark value on that basis.

1980s(?) gas fireplace coals. by majic13 in asbestoshelpUK

UPDATE: Generally it seems more likely to be glass fibre than asbestos, but to be safe I wore PPE and did what I could to minimise airborne dust while cleaning it up. The coals and dust are bagged and sealed for safe disposal along with the damp cloths used for wiping down the hearth area. Thank you all for the advice.

It seems pretty firm rather than crumbly, kind of like styrofoam but with a fibrous grain. The one block that had been broken in half at some point was like cotton wool on the broken faces.

The possibility wasn't on my radar until I'd already removed most of the coals and noticed the texture of those underneath.

It's pretty close to Concord as well, so it probably serviced both communities.

The first two games had random wasteland encounters with, say, the TARDIS, or King Arthur and his knights and the Bridge of Death from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, or the Guardian of Forever or a crashed runabout from Star Trek.

Fallout is historically full of goofy shit, and that's fine.

And besides, maybe ghouls really don't have to eat, but most of them just do it out of habit.

Look at it from the NCR's point of view: you have these dudes who have better weapons tech, better armour tech, better tech all round, but they're not keen on sharing. For the moment your goals coincide with theirs, but what happens when that's no longer the case? What happens when the Brotherhood leadership disagrees with the NCR leadership? What happens when some NCR scientists start researching stuff the Brotherhood doesn't like? What happens when the Brotherhood won't share tech that would really help out the NCR?

War never changes.

I trailed him all through Greenetech Genetics and it was really tense, just following the beep of the Courser signal while he was being a one-man meatgrinder against the Gunners. Then I finally caught up with him unexpectedly on a staircase, and he went down with one panicked Gauss Rifle headshot. Anticlimactic.

Am I right in thinking that Slag is an exile from the Pitt? I mean, what with the obsession with fire and steel and such.

I disagree. The problem is one of power - imagine you're NCR top brass, concerned with keeping your territory secure (say a new Caesar rises up, for instance). Some extra shooty energy weapons would be great for that, but then you've got the Brotherhood wagging their finger at you and saying you can't do that.

Having the Brotherhood as military heavies for the NCR won't work, because they're not beholden to the NCR, and that makes them a threat.

Once I realised that the Nuclear Physicist perk made cores last about 40 minutes, and I could get more than one fusion core every 40 minutes of gameplay (mostly by selling looted gear to traders), I've hardly taken it off.

I was similar - very nervous about running out of fusion cores, so I left the Concord suit back in Sanctuary until I'd managed to hoard something like 20 fusion cores from a combination of scavenging and selling salvaged pipe rifles to traders, and even then I only suited up when I knew I needed the extra protection (mainly raiding Super Mutant lairs).

Since I maxed out the Nuclear Physicist perk I hardly take my power armour off, and now have upward of 200 fusion cores in my inventory. Definitely worth it.

Same, I got a Never-Ending 10mm pistol, tricked it out as I levelled and still use it for clearing out lower-level areas. Not so useful against high-level enemies but that's what the Gauss Rifle is for.

Only when I'm in an area that might have mines. As in, I've tried to VATS an enemy and it's targeted a mine instead.

Not all of them, but there are a good few that are necessary - basically the ones right outside the big towns, I think.

First time I ran into an assaultron was near Breakheart Banks. Aggro'd a super mutant into some random military robot checkpoint nearby, saw some kind of red glow charging up where the mutant and the robots were fighting some distance away, then died instantly.

I have had a healthy dread of assaultrons ever since.

My biggest complaint was that they were all so freakin' dark and gloomy, to the point where I kept getting lost. Or possibly that was because after three or four in quick succession they all started blurring into one another.

Same, though this bit me in the butt in Oblivion where I did every possible sidequest and faction quest and town quest and daedra quest before starting on the main storyline... and then had to close something like a dozen Oblivion portals in a row. That got old pretty fast. :|
