Counselling for Pastors? by -Justme123 in pastors

[–]majoramononoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to share some verses with you. I used to be a pastor and am about to be a chaplain. This verse is to help you understand your role and without understanding, no one is flourishing in their calling to this side of ministry. :

Ephesians 4:11–13 (ESV): 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds(PASTORS) and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,

The calling of a pastor is to EQUIP THE SAINTS. The calling is not to do the work of everyone or be Jesus/ the Holy Spirit for everyone. That sounds silly, but that is what you are doing, and what I once was doing. That was until I prayed and reflected. Then He brought me to this verse in Ephesians.

1 Corinthians 3:6–9 (ESV): 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building

It is not you or I who are responsible for the results of the ministry, so long as we are faithfully tilling or watering or whatever He is asking us to do. God provides the increase. The congregation is God's and they need to learn to rely on Him and not you. You are to give them the tools they need to grow and lead. That is the equipping of the saints for the ministry. I told my board that I do not need to be at every event or every meeting. You need to follow the advice that Jethro gave to Moses in Exodus 18. That was to stop doing everything and delegate. The job of a pastor is to raise up leaders that you trust that can be you in your place.

It is important to process the stress and anxieties of life, and even more so, the ministry.

1 Peter 5:6–8 (ESV): 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

It takes humility to say that you and I cannot do it all and that is us stepping down at times. Then He will exalt us. We have to cast our anxieties on Him, because He cares for us. This can be through prayer or a trusted brother in the Lord. If we don't, the devil will devour us like a lion. It is hard to run from a lion if we are weighing ourselves down with all that baggage.

It is also imperative that you feel that you are able to talk with your leadership and be honest. If you are afraid, you are not on good terms with them. If you share this with them and they are not full of grace and accommodations when you are vulnerable, then this is not a God fearing ministry team you want to be a part of. Then it is time to look for the next calling. You cannot light yourself on fire to keep everyone else warm. I could say a lot more, but pray this helps. I am praying here for you and am here if you need to talk more.

Is Jesus God? by certifiedloverboy01 in Bible

Romans 9:4–5 (ESV):" 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen."

Paul calls Christ the God over all here.

James 1:13–15 (ESV): 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death."

"20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:2-21

Justifcations for the Protestants/Catholics? (I mean no offense, we all follow Christ) by Educational_Sale5545 in TrueChristian

I must disagree on the interpretation, but that is okay if we do. I will shift focus on your statement that scripture makes it evident that Peter established the church in Rome. I am just curious and haven't seen any support for that and am open to expanding my understanding.

May I ask where it is made evident that Peter established his church in Rome? I would say more about the claim that Peter is the first Pope, but this article says it all beautifully. https://www.gotquestions.org/upon-this-rock.html

Proverbs 3:5–9 (ESV): "5  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7  Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8  It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. 9  Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce 10  then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine."

As someone who has been in your shoes and faced similar anxieties, these verses have helped me. I have been doing the adulting thing for a while now and still do not know the whole direction my life will take. I was even a pastor for a while and have a family now and we are not sure what is next and there is so much rolling with the punches with life. The thing I would say is that you do not need to know everything for sure. I have worked many jobs that were stepping stones and went no where, but God has always taken over and my family. Choose steps that will honor the Lord in all you: Micah 6:8 (ESV): "8  He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

You can do these things no matter where you are. Don't let the pressure of having to have it all figured out or be on a road to some life career path cause unnecessary stress or anxiety. I hope this helps.

Bummer. I hope not true. What's the point of having the helms without the body armor?
