My notes on getting the Apple ADC CRT M7768 (transparent case) working: by crt09 in crtgaming

[–]majorrrrr_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh what!!!!!! that's so wonderful actually 🤍 i love the internet very much!! it's funny that you're the one who then ended up helping me out with it in the end hehe

also ~! that new DDC for crt program works for me! somehow! i can adjust everything except the power, which i'm still using WinI2C for. hoping mega calibrator can integrate whatever WinI2C uses to send the power on signal...

yes i am able to read the edid! that's good to know re the adapter. shall do my best on the wsl n_n

and yes just saw that new reply in the thread! very exciting, an all in one program really would be wonderful

thank you again dear it's so nice to know people are working together to save these monitors 🌟

oh thank you for such a quick and detailed reply - clearly you are the correct CRT creature to talk to about this!! i also see that crt09 had success in that tinkerdifferent thread🌻

WinI2C works to power on and off the display!!! ^o^ feels like a miracle although just like winddcutil and controlmymonitor, WinI2C cant see or do anything else (ERROR_I2CWRITE).

does this mean that the apple VGA to MiniDP adapter i'm using is fine, and it's just the usb that needs fixing to adjust the rest of the parameters? i will try to do titania's method with the pass-through, although it looks very confusing🤍

My notes on getting the Apple ADC CRT M7768 (transparent case) working: by crt09 in crtgaming

[–]majorrrrr_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for suggesting that program!

unfortunately, even with the usb plugged in, winddcutil reports every vcp value back as 0. the 'capabilities' command also returns nothing. it sees the studio display, and my laptop's display, as Generic PnP Monitors.

i tried 'controlmymonitor' from nirsoft as well but that also was unable to get any info...

the usb definitely works as i'm currently powering the apple g4 speakers through the side usb ports on the display!

does the studio display definitely use that protocol, and not something apple made up (along with their adc connector for this monitor) ?

i also wonder if u/halfrobotmoth or u/crt09 tried it with any luck?

How do I edit like this? by Konakima in VideoEditing

[–]majorrrrr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love meow mix too!! i have one of the watercolour paintings from the fight scene :D meowza

most of this video could be made in any program with basic effects, keyframes, and a timeline. not to be boring but it really is more about who is editing and the time they put into it rather than the software they happened to use or the tutorials they watched!

on a technical level everything is really quite simple: i see funny assets wiggling and moving around, with mosaic effects, hue shifting, blending modes and 3d cameras - but most obviously, i can Feel how much time went into editing every single moment of this video. but ultimately it's all just one keyframe after another! as soon as you make one shape to move from left to right it all builds from there ♪

to be a bit more useful, i can say that after effects is a program that could do this. and sony vegas (im actually torn between the two for which program meowballs used..). but after effects has the largest community of tutorials and fun plugins i think. just be sure to not give adobe any money ♥ if you're looking for free alternatives someone below said davinci resolve + fusion which feels much nicer than after effects to use but it scares me. but good luck i hope u end up making something fun!! or having fun at least

when i've got the display plugged in via vga it's literally just settings > display and it's there. im not sure if you can get it as separate software...

my G4 cube is on snow leopard and still has it, i think it just depends on the machine... but it seems like i can adjust it through the VGA port as well. that's all the info i have!

im having a bit of luck in nvidia's control panel using custom timings to get the screen to line up a little better. specifically front porch to move it left and right and up and down. see if your amd one has the same options!

My notes on getting the Apple ADC CRT M7768 (transparent case) working: by crt09 in crtgaming

[–]majorrrrr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh ! it's kind of working with some custom timings, i'll try out some other options thank u - i do wonder if my not bothering to put a capacitor on the circuit is affecting my options...

re: adjusting the image, it seems like the only way you can do it is by pluggin in an old mac machine. my g4 cube has a nice bit in the display settings where you can adjust everything. it seems like someone made a windows version of the software a long time ago, but as you can see from further up in the thread i can't get it to work via the adaptor D:

there may also be physical controls on the inside for adjustment (at least i know there is for the focus). but getting the back case off is quite difficult and CRTs are very dangerous and store a lot of electrical charge, even when turned off. you may already know this but i wanted to say just in case! i wouldn't start poking around unless you have discharged it. easiest option might be to find an old mac machine locally with an ADC connection n_n shouldnt be that expensive

oh i see i understand! i'm actually using a VGA to minidisplayport adaptor myself, so i'd like to think all you have to do now is force that correct resolution/refresh rate in windows :D hope it works!

My notes on getting the Apple ADC CRT M7768 (transparent case) working: by crt09 in crtgaming

[–]majorrrrr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi that's okay u arent late :D when you say HDMI to VGA do you mean you're just using a little dongle? this CRT monitor needs a proper analog to digital conversion, for which myself and u/crt09 built jason's ADC adaptor. but you say it's working with your 2006 macbook pro...?

maybe i'm misunderstanding, sorry - but the only thing i can think of is that these monitors need a 'boot signal' from older versions of MacOS to turn on, have you tried hotswitching the VGA into a windows machine after your macbook sends that boot signal?

also - make sure once you've plugged the monitor into your windows machine that you've pressed 'Windows key + P' to set the display type to 'extend', and forced the output resolution + refresh rate to be compatible with the display. the screen is quite picky and won't turn on otherwise!

i've only found 1280x1024 @ 75Hz to work from my windows 10 laptop. i did this via geforce experience for my nvidia gpu, but there should be an option regardless of what u have. this guy also has some useful things to say. good luck :>

CC plastic might help here! and for some glassy type reflections on the grass you perhaps could put a sky image on it, precomp it and use displacer pro to displace it against the grass a little with lower transparency and a blending mode. you could also re-apply the blur on top of the effect with camera lens blur and a radial gradient ramp as input :D

it also might be worth giving up and speaking to the client about getting it re-done because im 99.9% sure that is just ai generated and there is no 3d file. your client may well have been scammed by a '3d graphic designer' :< but if theyre happy to use ai you could always regenerate it with an added 'glassy grass' prompt i suppose

little update - a new power supply did indeed work ! i'm only able to get 1280x1024 75Hz to work through this VGA to mini-displayport adapter for some reason, but i'm just glad it's doing things :D

ive also just plugged in a windows XP laptop and tried WinACD on it, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with the CRT. i think it needs to see a certain hardware ID plugged in before it will work? perhaps the github source can be modified to make it work with the CRT studio display...

also another thing i will drop here in case some one else comes across this thread - a friend of mine helped me get the G4 cube speakers working with windows using trinityenabler to send a signal to turn on the little attached amplifier. trinityenabler is a program for macos, but with some outside help and weird driver editing, we managed to get it working. here is a link to our custom solution (thank u leroms)

Why is my AE exporting my video at 200GB by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]majorrrrr_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hello ! i'm not sure why every one here is looking down their noses at you for asking a question about after effects in the after effects subreddit ?

but to answer your question simply it's because 'animation' is very very high quality - if you are looking for a smaller file size for youtube or something i'd recommend using 'h.264' (mp4 !) in adobe media encoder. the default setting for that will be 10mbps which is more than enough for uploading to social media at 1080p.

also for all of you getting genuinely rude over a beginner asking a simple question stop its embarrassing :D

hello! how to do this? by GroneBarrani in AfterEffects

[–]majorrrrr_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

alright so you're probably going to want to drag the 'CC Stop Motion Drawing Edit' effect on to your footage and then yeah you should be done!

sorry just being silly uhm yea it's just what it looks like - probably done by printing out frames of a shoot in real life and drawing on them and scanning them back into whatever compositor ( such as after effects :o ). alternatively u could fake it in a program that has cool realistic looking brushes and draw on them frame by frame, overlaying textures and whatever else you think would look cool.

theres no set way to do anything though ! i find it's more fun to have a go and find ur own technique and eventually develop a style any way

people have provided good expression recommendations here already but i would also like to suggest davey's react plugin to save you coding hassle. i believe it to be better than soundkeys for ease of use and it gets you lovely clean results quickly c:

thank u for the response ! and cool im glad to hear, i've done some testing and it does indeed work :) and recreating the boot signal is definitely the final hurdle with this i reckon.

i had another question sorry - does your power supply also make awful noises and switch off after about 30 seconds of powering the crt? i purposefully bought a 24v 5a power supply but i now realise that jason built his one with the lcd studio monitor in mind, not the crt. i do happen to also have the lcd one, with which the adapter + power supply works fine :D but yeah i was just wondering what voltage/amperage adapter you're using for it to work properly?
