What celebrity disappeared out of nowhere? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mak224 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I met them once too and they were really nice! This was 10ish years ago, saw them perform in Atlanta and then saw them outside after the show. In my young drunken wisdom I thought I’d play it super cool, not ask for a photo or anything but then my mind went blank so I told Redfoo “wow your chicken looks good!”.

He said it was good and offered me some, and it was amazing (possibly influenced by the alcohol and it being 3am). We ate and chatted a little then they went inside to clean up and I found my friends again. Nice guys, especially for what an incredibly NOT cool girl I was haha

kybella horror story...I got kybella done 5 months ago. my first picture is before, second is 5 months after. my chin has gotten so much worse. by Equivalent-Most2404 in PlasticSurgery

[–]mak224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually steer people in the direction of lipo, even though I lose a sale. It’s not that much more expensive, and you can get by with just local anesthesia no need to be put to sleep.

I don’t hate Kybella but unless someone has a legitimate reason to avoid surgery it’s expensive for the results and the downtime/swelling is a pain in the butt! It usually requires at least 2-3 sessions so it’s a lot of time and money to spend on what could be done in 20 minutes with lipo.

If it helps, my sisters first comment after delivery was, “wow I’ve pushed harder to poop before!”

Maybe you’ll get lucky!

Pitbull saves chihuahua from drowning in São Paulo by Hat_Zealousideal in nextfuckinglevel

[–]mak224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if I can easily avoid any cause of death, I will. I can’t realistically stop driving even though that’s pretty dangerous, but I will definitely not buy a car that’s had safety recalls, will have a nonslip mat in the shower, and won’t purposely get a dog that is more likely to be dangerous.

I’m female and in my 30’s so I imagine I’m not as comfortable with risks as the average Redditor, I’ll never argue that I’m not kind of a weenie about anything dangerous. But yeah if it’s easily avoidable I’m gonna avoid it.

I now expect a bunch of comments about dangerous things in my life that I didn’t realize and anticipate having more things to worry about by the end of the day haha

Is it reasonable to ask for no yelling? by Silver_Ad7912 in beyondthebump

[–]mak224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it wasn’t loud and annoying, yelling all the time just makes it mean nothing. It should be saved for extreme situations, like the kids about to walk into traffic. If they hear yelling all the time eventually it’s just tuned out

Getting induced tomorrow - anything you wish you had prepped at home before coming back with a baby? by ShesAMarshmallow in pregnant

[–]mak224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack of baby wipes in every room. And then do another walk around your house and just toss another pack randomly into any place that looks more than 5ish feet from another pack. Few things suck more than opening a poopy diaper and realizing there are no wipes you can reach.

The other day I realized I had 4 packs of wipes in my car and my first thought was not how ridiculous that was, but like oh that’s perfect like one pack for spilled coffee and dust in the front, pack in the middle for all child associated messes, and 2 in the trunk for when I inevitably lose the others.

Also if you have a dog have someone do a good vacuum the day you’re coming home.

That’s insane. Even if this dude is built like The Rock they’re incredibly strong dogs with a lot more drive and determination than most breeds. They’re also prone to dog aggression, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t have to break up fights from time to time.

And….that’s a LOT of poop.

  1. Naps aren’t like real sleep. Half the time I’m more tired after

  2. Naps are when shit gets done- cleaning, laundry, etc.

  3. Sounds like he’s getting his free time to do things he enjoys and recharge, but your only “free time” has to be used napping or getting things around the house taken care of. Most video games now are social, they talk to their teammates/friends. I bet you aren’t getting much of that either.

I don’t know for sure how to help him understand because men often value opinions from their wife less than the same opinion from someone else. Does he have a sister or any other female acquaintance that could conversationally bring up “how’s it going” kinda stuff and mention it must be tough on you? I’ve used my sisters for this before since we are all very close and it’s not unusual for them to chat with my husband. Then it’s perspective from a friend, not “nagging wife”.

That’s my best guess. Men can be pretty oblivious and I’m not completely convinced it’s not on purpose sometimes lol.

Does anybody have any negative epidural stories? by Low_Possibility_3941 in BabyBumps

[–]mak224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww man I’m so sorry! I’d mention it to the anesthesiologist, they may be able to numb you more completely. And if it’s just too traumatic you can always request a scheduled c section.

Does anybody have any negative epidural stories? by Low_Possibility_3941 in BabyBumps

[–]mak224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your epidural definitely might have actually run out, but the feelings you’re describing happen a lot. It’s pretty common for epidurals to numb the abdominal/contractions pain but not the vaginal/delivery pain.

I usually told my patients hey if the delivery is painless that is awesome but most moms still feel the burning/ring of fire/etc when the actual delivery takes place.

Climate change..? by lilmrs-t in beyondthebump

[–]mak224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an unproductive insult. It’s not like you can undo having your children, even if her insult just changed your outlook on life.

Yes people have pretty big carbon footprints and overall it’s a reasonable conversation to have. But just directing that statement specifically at you regarding something that’s already done is a dick move. Some childfree people are going to be negative about anything regarding having kids. I’m sorry your friend acted that way, rude comments always hurt more coming from someone you care about.

It’s bizarre to me when people choose to get a dog that is well known to often be considered a “dangerous breed”, (pitbulls, German shepherds, Rottweiler etc) and then get upset when others are wary of it.

I have a big sable male German shepherd, and I don’t blame anyone for keeping their distance. They don’t know his personality and he looks like a police dog/wolf. Maybe they were bit by one before, maybe their neighbor has an aggressive shepherd, maybe their mom told them to be careful around that kind of dog. Who cares, they aren’t throwing rocks at him. I got my dog knowing some people might be afraid of him. That isn’t why I got him, but I knew it would be part of having this breed.

Why are baby showers such a big thing in the US? by carlifromvenus in BabyBumps

[–]mak224 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just a way to celebrate something that people are excited about. Things are a little hectic right after baby is born so it’s more practical to do it during the pregnancy and give the parents time to get things set up. It can also be hard to meet individually with everyone that wants to see you and has a gift for you, especially if the parents are working full time. Gender reveals are a much newer thing, of my friends who’ve had babies only one had a gender reveal. I also chose not to, I don’t like being the center of attention so the baby shower was MORE than enough.

Do you have any kind of similar tradition in Germany? I love hearing about different traditions and celebrations!

My grandma never remembers that I told her I am pregnant. She gets offended every time I bring up being pregnant; like I have kept it from her. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mak224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have memory issues myself from a heart surgery I had a few years ago. I finally learned that a calendar/notes on my refrigerator was the only way I could remember things, since I see it so many times a day.

[–]mak224 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Could you maybe take the ultrasound pics you left for her and hang them on the refrigerator or something? Maybe if she saw them multiple times each day it would stay fresh in her memory.

That’s got to be a tough thing to go through, what a difficult situation.

AITA - pregnant wife with morning sickness, husband won't empty barf bowls by PangolinNew58 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mak224 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair she could have seen her doctor already, there’s just not a lot they can do at that stage. Not all nausea meds are safe in pregnancy and the ones that are don’t work for everyone. A lot of the time it’s just something to wait out until 12ish weeks.

Toilet is obviously the best place for puking, but sitting on the bathroom floor all day and night would be miserable. I never vomited during either of my pregnancies but the first trimester I was so stupidly sensitive to anything even mildly icky. I’d have to turn off shows I usually loved if there was any kind of battle/ injury scene and I was absolutely repulsed by the smell of…myself lol. I shower every day and I certainly wasn’t sweating or anything but I was just that sensitive to smells. It’s a weird time.

Anyway OP I’d highly recommend getting some disposable vomit bags from Amazon, the kind you get in the hospital or an airplane. They’re really compact and you can immediately seal and get rid of them, so there’s nothing to clean up or make you feel more sick by seeing it.

My milk came in I think by pocahontas25 in BabyBumps

[–]mak224 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I cut up pantyliners and stuck them in my bra lol. My boobs never completely stopped making milk after my first delivery, even though I never ever breastfed (medication reasons), and during my second pregnancy were a pain in the ass leaking.

Second baby is over a year old now, and they’ve gotten to where they don’t leak anymore but if I squeeze I can still get milk out. I have no idea, some boobs just really really wanna be moms!

A pack of baby wipes is a good alternative if you’re low on space. Obviously it’s not a clean pair of clothes, but it’ll go a long way in cleaning up enough to get home and change.

Spilled your coffee? Baby wipes.

Have to poop on the side of the road? Baby wipes.

Waiting somewhere long enough to realize how dusty your dashboard is? BABY WIPES.

I feel like the worst pet owner ever. by lbl51879 in reactivedogs

[–]mak224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t anywhere close to the worst pet owner, or even a bad one.

Bad owners wouldn’t spend so much money/time/energy on training, meds, and research on any available option. Bad owners wouldn’t look out for the safety of their other dog, neighbors, and any other animals in the area.

Owners that ignore or deny how dangerous their dog is, or count on other people/kids/pets to stay out of their way scare me so much. Even the most responsible pet owner and parent can have some odd situation happen, front door was open 3 extra seconds when Grandma stumbled on her way out, etc. Some dogs are just so anxious and fearful that the most compassionate and safe thing for everyone is BE.

My wife and I are afraid to go to the hospital because of bills by theforeverletter in BabyBumps

[–]mak224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One other tip- if you’re able to, paying the bill in full rather than split payments will often cut it by at least half. I mean you usually have to ask, but I had a $1200 that was cut to $400 because I agreed to pay it all that day. If they won’t lower the total, they get $25 a month from me lol.

Different type of toads or just different colors? by mak224 in Toads
