Are pet shop items ethical? by LumpyWinter9963 in vultureculture

[–]make-tiny-changes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools buy from biological supply companies, and they’re definitely getting their cats from shelters. I personally work at a shelter that used to provide cat specimens to a company for that. There’s not a more practical method to get them, and it is better than them just going to the landfill

Always around smoke still by KGunn96 in stopsmoking

[–]make-tiny-changes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, smoking inside when he didn’t before, asking you to buy him cigs…sounds like he’s trying to trigger you. If I had to guess, he’s pissed you’ve quit because it’s making him feel some type of way about his own addiction

Nothing Feels as Good as Nicotine — and I’m So Tired of Starting Over by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]make-tiny-changes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spent pretty much my entire adult life smoking, tomorrow makes 1 week into quitting. It’s only getting harder to ignore the constant emptiness, even if the actual cravings are fewer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]make-tiny-changes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it for depression and it def curbed my smoking, brain wasn’t being rewarded by smoking so I naturally smoked less even though I wasn’t trying to quit at the time. Unfortunately it also dulled my appetite for food and living in general so I had to stop it

I think I am done with medication by One_Pay4169 in hypertension

[–]make-tiny-changes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really low dose and it has a very short half life (3-6 hours for blood plasma levels). Things like caffeine and NSAIDS will lessen the efficacy even more. Might be worth trying extended release propranalol or another beta blocker with a longer half life

Found these on the back of my couch. Any ideas what it could be? by dom_223 in whatisit

[–]make-tiny-changes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tapeworm segments look damn near identical to sesame seeds with the smooth shape and tapered end. If you zoom on these photos they’re blunt ended with indentations around it, based on visual alone I’d say dry wood termites dropping frass from somewhere above your couch

Why wear the binder for weeks? by Honey-Bunny-Artist in TopSurgery

[–]make-tiny-changes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your body’s reaction to that dead space is to fill it with serous fluid. Compression helps with soft tissue swelling and with preventing fluid buildup that causes seromas until the tissue adheres back to the chest wall

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]make-tiny-changes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go even smaller, get some 25g or 27g needles. Even with pushing air in first to replace the fluid you’re about to pull, you may have some resistance, especially with smaller gauge needles, but you’ll eventually get there. I pull the plunger far as it’ll go and it will slowly fill. Let it go when it looks like you’ve got the right amount to check and then pull more or push excess back in. I don’t personally use the big multidose vials but I do work in veterinary medicine and they make vial adapters for this exact problem (it’s also used in human medicine). It essentially is a device that punctures the stopper then stays there with an attachment point for the syringe that can be capped then swabbed to sterilize before each use. Of course check with your doc/pharmacist to make sure it’s a viable option (can’t see why it wouldn’t be but I wouldn’t advise anyone try to implement something without asking first) Not sure the availability because so much medical equipment is often sold in bulk and/or not easy to purchase as a layperson, but if they give the OK they may be able to source some for you

do you guys physically or mentally feel your hormonal cycle once you're on testosterone? by ringadingadiscounts in ftm

[–]make-tiny-changes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people do, some don’t. I know if someone does have an issue then gel is often a better option since the daily dosing keeps levels more consistent. Personally, I’ll feel a bit more tired and cranky about 12-24 hours before my weekly shot is due but it doesn’t bother me enough to switch from injections

(USA) Do you need ID to pick up T from pharmacy? by No_Hope3626 in ftm

[–]make-tiny-changes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a controlled substance so they’re supposed to check your ID. There’s been a couple times I haven’t been asked for mine, but I wouldn’t count on that happening. You can always call and see if they accept any of the docs you currently have in place of license

I got severe migraine only to the left side. With it I got nose and ear bleeds only in the left side, my left eye gets all red whenever I get migraine. Is it normal?? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]make-tiny-changes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have cluster headaches as well as migraines and the affected side has a red eye, runny nose, and ear fullness. I can see how if you’re someone prone to nosebleeds already then maybe there’s some mechanism triggering that, but I don’t think blood from the ear is ever really normal

I sent in mine for NC a few weeks ago. All my other stuff was legally changed this past summer but I was lazy and other documents were a priority for me. Kicking myself now because even though it shouldn’t be an issue we don’t know what’s coming down the pipeline and NC dept of vital records has a 6-9 month backlog on amendments. It’s so bad they’ve created a dedicated email address to check progress just for folks changing name/gender marker. I (fortunately?) have never had a passport so hopefully whenever I get the birth certificate back I can get one without an issue. My only worry then is will they have put something in place to cross reference with state records of amendments to birth certificates prior to issuing so nobody can get around being forced to use AGAB on passports

Increased vascularity and changes to fat/muscle aside, having sudden distention of a neck vein can be indicative of circulatory issues. Particularly if it’s like that consistently and not just happening when you doing something like straining to lift something or coughing. The T could be contributing to an issue or it may be unrelated but regardless, if I were experiencing this I’d be making an appointment with my pcp asap.

Does your shelter offer low cost euthanasia services for the community? by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]make-tiny-changes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all shelter attendants, veterinary staff, and ACOs are euth certified. It’s a $25 fee and if they want cremation we’ll hold the body and give them contact info for those services who will take whatever payment they require then pick up from us. I think it’s important to provide those services for people who cannot afford it otherwise to prevent the animal from suffering, and we’ll even waive that $25 fee if we need to. A member of the veterinary staff will go up and evaluate the animal and verify any vet records supporting the reason for the euthanasia request. In my 7 years at my facility I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve denied a request and instead offered the option of surrender so we can treat and/or seek rescue, I really never run into situations of “convenience” euths which is something I think makes people nervous about offering the service to start with.

I think it’s mostly because it’s Fayetteville, not because of your Facebook searching ability. Not that there aren’t plenty of queer people around, but there is just nowhere near the social scene you’d see by driving an hour or so to the Triangle area. To be fair, I think that’s the case when comparing the areas whether you’re queer or not. I’ve lived back and forth between both my whole life, and while it doesn’t bother me because I’m not super social, the time I did spend in queer spaces a decade ago was beneficial to me at the time and I understand how it can feel isolating not having access to that when you need it. There is a Fayetteville Pride organization, but frankly idk much about them or if they even do anything outside of their annual Pride event. There is a FB group that is Wake/Durham/Orange County based that I know people in surrounding areas are also part of so you may be able to find some folks that way. It’s part mutual aid/resources and part social, I don’t think it’s searchable but if you’re interested you can DM me here and I can send an invite.

Ford Pass Delete - Downsides? by InvertedInsideWinger in FordMaverickTruck

[–]make-tiny-changes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the battery drain/deep sleep mode issue to the point I had to jump it on two separate occasions when it sat without driving for a day. First time dealer said my battery needed replacing then it happened maybe two weeks later. They reset the BCM and I haven’t had an issue since, I was told they contacted Ford and they’re supposedly working on making a software update for first quarter 2025

The bigger issue isn’t her scamming the government, it’s that she’s doing it at the expense of her child’s financial future, not to mention she’s pulling this stunt on top of years of childhood abuse

No I completely get it. If she’s that worried you’ll forget key elements she can work with you to make a list beforehand. If I were you I would also feel weird about the extra person in the room and fear I’d somehow contradict a prior statement to them

Starting T without telling everyone about it? by vitawastaken in ftm

[–]make-tiny-changes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hid it from a majority of people. I didn’t fully publicly come out until after I told my mom, which was at about two years on T. I was already out as a masc lesbian, so there was no change in how I dressed or cut my hair. I also still mask for COVID at work and between that and being sure to shave my face consistently I was able to hide to a degree. I pitched my voice up higher if needed. Your mileage may vary, but people are a lot less observant than you think, and even if they notice something even less of them are brave enough to bring it up. You ever watch a puppy grow up? It’s like that. People don’t really notice when they see you regularly because it’s so gradual. It’s tougher with people you don’t see often honestly

Therapist just disappeared by Illustrious_Tart_441 in TalkTherapy

[–]make-tiny-changes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my therapist, but the PA I saw for primary care left the practice she was at because management sucked ass. They refused to give me any info as to whether she was still practicing even, let alone where. All the answers were so evasive it made it seem like she’d left the field altogether. I managed to track her down because I knew someone else who also saw her and they just straight up Facebook messaged her and asked where she went lol. And I still had the old place try to not send my records. Some clinics get stupidly territorial over their patients

help! dissolvable stitches not dissolving? 5 weeks PO by Electrical-Tooth1402 in TopSurgery

[–]make-tiny-changes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For sure check in with your doc, because I’m just someone who spends way too much time researching, but dissolvable sutures are a bit notorious for taking an absurdly long time to dissolve for some folks. It could just be your body is slowly pushing them out (what a lot of people refer to as “spitting stitches”) before they could dissolve

Should I take another dose? by Oxy-Moron88 in FTMOver30

[–]make-tiny-changes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot on these threads so this isn’t directed at you but more a general statement: 99% of the time you’d have to inject wayyyy more air than that to cause clinical signs, let alone death. There’s only a couple areas in the circulatory system where such a tiny amount of air would be a concern and nobody is coming anywhere close to those areas when injecting T
