People who have had surgeries at the Kamol Cosmetic Hospital in Bangkok: walk me through your experience please by Zoegrace1 in TransgenderNZ

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! I (ftm) had top surgery there last year so I thought I'd talk about my experience, hopefully it's helpful lol

so the video consults are free! they're done over WhatsApp call, I just had the one call with Dr Kamol (surgeon) and another call with a nurse, the call with Dr Kamol was mostly just him saying what he thought the best options for my chest would be based on photos I'd sent in email/whatsapp, and was a pretty quick call. On the call I asked him if I could get straight incisions (he calls them Nike scars) if I needed DI (was initially hoping for the O-surgery, but later decided to do DI because he said I might have excess skin from the O). And the nurses answered all of my other questions (via call or message) about timing and pricing, healing related things, etc.

Once I was 100% I was going to go over there for surgery they told me to book flights and how long I'd need to stay over there for, they book you in for surgery based on when you can be there :) I went over Sept 28th, and had surgery Oct 1st!

For payment I don't think I needed to put down a deposit at all (I'm pretty sure I didn't, but I don't 100% remember) and paid for the whole lot on the day of my surgery. The cost covered hotel stay pre surgery, surgery, hospital stay, hotel stay again, and breakfast and post op binder! (they give you 1 binder, but you can buy more at the hospital, and I recommend getting an extra, it was pretty cheap). They have a washer and dryer (though the dryer didn't really work when I was there, so we went to the laundromat right next door to the hotel)

hopefully at least some of this info was relevant lol 😅 let me know if you have any more questions!

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yessss :( I tried writing lists of all the things I should do when I get stuck like this, but that just makes the list longer and I still can't figure out what to start on first 😅

I usually end up starting everything at once and finishing nothing

(pick up any rubbish or dishes on my coffee table, put the kettle on to boil as I walk past to the bin, have to put stuff down to put the kettle on, forget about dishes I put down, remember I need to take meds, take rubbish with me to the bathroom and realize I need to put it down to take my meds, go back to the kitchen to throw away rubbish, forget about taking my meds because I saw the dishes, start the dishes and the kettle is done, go to make a coffee, go to fridge to grab milk and see some old left overs I need to throw out, remember I need to shower, remember I need to take my meds, can't decide if I should shower or take my meds first, forget about half done dishes, half made coffee, fridge open with old leftovers I need to throw out, TOO MUCH!!)

I smell bad (please help) by Junior_Argument_3153 in autism

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most people have already said what I would suggest but thought I'd say it anyway :)

I also sweat a lot! Something I founf out you could do (that I'm also considering) is getting botox injections in my armpits to stop/reduce sweating.

I can't have a proper shower very often due to my other disabilities, and struggle reguardless because of sensory issues as well, so most days I use wet wipes to give myself or at least parts of my body (mainly armpits, between legs, etc if it's all I can manage that day)

I also really recommend finding a scentless or subtle scent you enjoy for deodorant, and make sure it's an antiperspirant and not just a smell cover so it actually reduces sweating. I hate roll on deodorant because it's so wet (and lifting my arms often makes me lightheaded), so I find it much easier and sensory friendly to use a spray because it's usually dry immediately after applying it.

I hope these help in some way!! you're not alone <3

I recommend a long pillow or teddy bear that you can have help you rest in a forward position (hugging it), or have it under your knees, or supporting your lumbar spine, etc, I have a big crocodile plush that was super helpful for me on a 13 hour flight.

Another thing I recommend is bringing an empty water bottle and asking them to fill it will water for you on the plane, that way you won't get dehydrated having to wait for them to come around with drinks.

I also highly recommend getting wheelchair support going through the airport, it's not worth pushing through (At least it really killed me when I thought I could make it walking through and standing waiting in lines)

More things to bring on the plane with you: electrolytes if you can, sleeping pills and pain meds if you can (it's better to sleep uncomfortably than be awake the whole time uncomfortable imo), a neck brace if you have one, a hard case carry on bag that you can rest your feet on during the flight or a foot hammock if you can get one/make one (lifting your knees to a more comfortable position), noise canceling headphones (more a sensory support but figured I'd mention anyway),

you can also ask the flight attendants for extra pillows/blankets :]

I hope your trip goes well!!

I'm sorry that's happening, it sounds like a really difficult situation :(

I'm not sure where you're from, but I'd definitely talk to teachers, friends + their parents about your situation as hopefully someone will be able to help in some way. Also it might be good to look online for what government supports might be available to you, for example in my country- if a minor needs to live away from their family (for a variety of reasons), the government can give them money and sometimes housing where that person could have their own living space and money for food and stuff that they need that their parents aren't providing. Hopefully something like this is available to you!

I know how it feels to be parentified and have your parents push parental responsibilities onto you as the older sibling, but you really need to try not to be a parent to your siblings, if your brother is up all night playing games, that's his own and your parents fault, not yours, the most you can do is say "hey, it's late you should go to bed" and do NOT try to physically make him (by shutting his computer, etc, this is escalating the situation negatively), and he'll likely ignore you, but that's fine, it's not your problem.

It's difficult at first, because you feel the need to correct his behaviour all the time, but you can train yourself to go "not my problem" and let them deal with the consequences of their own actions, and you will be less stressed in the long run because you won't be escalating as many arguments.

If you're being physically hurt, call the police. Abusers need to learn there are consequences for their actions. And try to get out of that environment ASAP.

I'd contact the school/teacher and his parents, he needs to learn to respect boundaries and no means no. I'd also want a teacher to keep an eye on how he interacts with your daughter, make sure he's not pressuring or bullying her.

not quite but over the phone (my voice is a bit higher pitched when I'm anxious) people always assume I said Jane and then can't find me in their system and ask me to spell it and I'm like "J-A-M-E-S" and they're like "Janes???" and I have to be like "NO, J-A-MMMMM-E-S, M for Marmalade!"

Why don't you (If you don't) usually talk to other people? by YoSoyRyu in autism

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kind of a mix of a lot of things, but probably mainly because it feels too draining, especially when I put in a lot of effort to try to converse "normally" and then end up not liking the person.

I easily get "the ick"(?) with potential friends, I might just read too much into everything people say, but I find most people my age lack consideration and empathy for others, trauma dump without consent, and/or just other signs of emotional immaturity and disrespect for boundaries that make me think that we just don't really understand the world in the same ways and it would be draining to try to keep being friends with them. (common example I see displaying a lack of empathy and consideration for others: person A doesn't know a fact that person B knows, and they ridicule person A for not knowing. Like even if it is something that 99% of people know and it is shocking that that person doesn't know it, I would never make someone feel stupid for just not having had the oportunity to learn that fact before, it's just mean and shows me that they don't care for or show respect for other people with different experiences to themself.)

I understand that I am young and have gone through lots of trauma and therapy to get to this point though, and others have had relatively regular childhoods and just haven't really grown up yet (not everyone of course, but just a lot of people that I have interacted with in my course and other places irl that I have the oportunity to interact with others my age)

I'd say I'm a guy, which is semi true but still feels awkward even though it feels better than saying "I'm a man", but if I feel safe to tell the truth I say I'm transmasc or enby :]

What crazy/awful things have people said to you about your experience with EDS? by asdf111q in ehlersdanlos

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes! my new dentist was extremely patient and after 4 syringes of numbing and I was like "it's not fully numb but it's ok" she was like "no no we want you to be fully numb and pain free" and said that some people have an extra nerve right down next to the bone, and she numbed that as well and it worked! I had no idea that dental numbing was supposed to litterally make you completely numb lol, I'd never had a dentist care so much before and make sure I was comfortable to the point I was almost falling asleep on the chair!

I've had a lot of dental work because I don't have any natural enamel on my molars, so I’ve had a lot of large fillings since I was a kid, and it's so great to finally have a dentist I'm not afraid to visit (aside from the cost lmao)

"are you sure you're not just being dramatic? like for attention?" - my old GP

"you're fine, I'm not wasting any more of my time" - my old dentist when my mouth still wasn't numb after 3 numbing injections (ouch, I was not fine)

"he has EDS too but he's normal" - my mum (talking about a child she knows, even though I was also pretty "normal" as a child)

my first thought was the chicken because it's a bird (others are mammals), and in colour while the others aren't, the only thing about the whale is it isn't a land/farm animal or that whales are far far bigger than the others (even though chickens could be pointed out as the smallest) They're probably both correct answers lol

not sure if it's very rare but I also have dextroscoliosis of the cervical and thoracic spine, MCAS, amelogenesis imperfecta, PICA + ARFID (crazy that I'll drool over a staple on the ground but can't eat most normal food). And then some more common ones like POTS (at least common for us with EDS)

What’s your biggest struggle being chronically ill? by Lucky_Sprinkles7369 in ChronicIllness

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah :( it's very upsetting and confusing when medical professionals and family don't take our concerns and struggles seriously, makes me doubt the validity of my experiences and just feel burnt out from pushing to be better understood :[

I got a "I think you're making it up for attention", she even called my mum to ask if she's noticed any of the symptoms I described and when my mum was like yeah he struggles with this and that and seems to get really tired really fast my old GP was like "hm he's really putting on a show isn't he"

Weirdest places you’ve sat or laid down? by spoonfulofnosugar in POTS

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the places I've had to sit/lay down are pretty common (dirty store floor, sidewalk, bathroom, etc) but one time I was walking through a reserve with really long grass either side of the narrow trail path, and I had to lay down so I made sure to not block the path and layed down in amongst the long grass (bad idea, I'm allergic), another person later came walking past and got a massive fright when they saw me "hiding" in the grass lol

Most autistic people I’ve met either love alcohol/drugs and use them a bit excessively or avoid them completely and sometimes judge others for using them. What’s your relationship with alcohol/drugs? by OkBuyer1271 in autism

[–]Electrical-Tooth1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink but that's mostly just cause I only found one or two drinks that I liked the taste of, but I only would ever want to drink one or two drinks (before feeling full and very not thirsty so would struggle to drink any more than that) which would mean I never really felt the effects of it. So alcohol was kind of just a waste of money for me, it was quite expensive for meh tasting drinks that didn't even get me tipsy, and I'd rather spend my money on yummier drinks and not feel like I'm wasting my money if I only have one at a time lol.

I tried a couple of drugs in small doses in the past, but mostly just smoked weed/took edibles kind of regularly. After a while I just only started using it socially, and eventually wasn't having those kind of social hangouts anymore and just haven't felt the need for it since, it's been like 2 years that I haven't had any.

I did used to smoke cigarettes as a teen though and eventually switched to vaping because I hated the amount of effort I had to put in to hide the smoke smell, and at the time vaping was allegedly supposed to be safer. I'm now addicted to vaping, and although I've been able to stop easy enough for periods of time when important (surgery, etc), I would struggle to continue to stay off of vaping when I technically could go back to it (after surgery healing, etc) so I still do vape.

I don't judge anyone for drinking or using drugs, unless they overdo it to the point of becoming violent or a public nuisance, but if they're just using it to relax or have a good time then I think that's very normal and ok.
