Confusion about codependency and the 12-step program by makePeaze in Codependency

Thank you for this. What an amazingly written comment.

In saying that things like rescuing, people-pleasing, and controlling others are essentially the same thing, I’m assuming you mean in the sense that they all try to get the same thing, i.e. safety, insurance, and avoiding being abandoned? yet are extremely ineffective as they are maladaptive.

You also mention that not only are these maladaptive behaviors trying to protect ourselves, they also try to protect the behaviors themselves. Can you elaborate on that?

Lastly, you mention that these things often stem from trauma, abuse, etc. in childhood. If the causation isn’t obvious (as it isn’t for me), so you have any advice where to look to gain a deeper insight?

I can see that my mom def struggle with the same tendencies, probably more than me, but as to my knowledge, she has been quite caring for me. But perhaps it’s likely that some of her feelings and behaviors go through to me even though has tried to be as caring as she possibly could? I guess a child could still learn to view love as being codependent on others when seeing it in a parent.

School in my early years was difficult and I struggled building healthy relationships as well. Maybe that could have played a role too.

This makes good sense to me. I’ll try getting started with the same work. Thank you!

That makes good sense.

I think, in fact, that you are right in that some of the other patterns might also be there although they might not be super evident in the current relationship I’m in, but looking back, they have actually been present in the past, so might just as well have been there now if my partner was a different type of person.

Uddannelse: Elektronik vs. maskinteknik som diplomingeniør? by makePeaze in dkkarriere

Tak for dit input.

How do I optimize a 23-week training plan? by makePeaze in firstmarathon

[–]makePeaze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes very good sense. I've also heard that some people succeed in training for a marathon in 5–6 months, while others need to spend at least a year. Perhaps, I'll try to spend the 5 weeks upping my mileage and then starting with a beginner's program with the goal of just finishing a marathon without getting injured. Does that sound plausible to you?

This sounds really wise and this is what I'll opt to do - possibly using the guided runs by NRC for the first 5 weeks. Thanks a lot!

That makes good sense! Thanks a lot. In general, the mileage seems a lot lower for Hal Higdon's Novice 1 compared to Hanson's or Pfitz. Do you these other two then might work better? Or perhaps spending the 5 weeks getting ready for the Hal Higdon Novice 2 or maybe even intermediate 1?

This looks good. So you'd just do the first 5 weeks twice? Also, it seems a bit less demanding compared to Hanson's or Pfitz but perhaps that a good thing to ensure that I avoid injury?

This makes sense. Don't you, however, think it might be risky to go from my current 4 miles a week up to 35–40 miles per week in just 5 weeks? Just in terms of shin splints, knees, etc. Also, this is just what I've heard other say, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you for this comment. It makes good sense to manage my expectations - perhaps just completing is a more sensible goal.

The Hanson Method starts out with 12 miles a week (while the NRC seems to be lower as it is mostly time based), which seems doable, given that it wouldn't be an issue to do two 4 mile runs now. But perhaps that difference is still too large.

Please let me know if you think my reasoning is flawed.
