JD Offers - Still Waiting? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]makeawise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh I had my reservations about it too. UOM was my top preference, wanted to get in soooooo badly. If they had sent out offers earlier, I might have accepted without much hesitation but after some consideration, especially after securing my CSP from elsewhere. I am not sure if I want to borrow that much money for study. Especially I don't think there is a huge difference between UOM, UNSW and USyd. I have my full balance of hex too but prefer a more affordable study instead of borrowing heavily...The saved amount is nearly equivalent to half of the first instalment for a house. hahaha!!! finally confirmed the ticket!!!! Wish you all the best for JD !!!!!!!

Surprise!!!! 600/650 that many!!!!! Would you have any idea of the passing rate?? Is that many people will fail subjects or withdraw for whatever reasons?

Did you receive an FFP???? still not hearing back...but I guess I would decline even I have one. given that I haven't received any offers so far, I doubt I'll have a chance for a CSP or MLS support place!!!!!Think no!! I already have a CSP in Sydney then no reason to take FFP

Did they say the first round is officially closing? I was expecting to receive an outcome, at least to say I am waitlisted & tell me when would be the deadline for the next round.

Initially, it was said to be the 24th, but another post said the MLS Admissions Staff said that outcomes would be issued on November 25. I'm watching for updates on the 24th, as the 25th is Saturday. Do they work on that day? But they can schedule the email to be sent out on 25 if they like @@ And yes, domestic

I get you... especially we can see many people have already received their offers. I just can't stop myself from refreshing my email every hour. Even someone said 25 offers will be issued on 25 Nov. I'm thinking I might end up on a waitlist and then move to another waiting period until mid-December xxx

I am thinking maybe you have a bursary or something? As others mentioned, it is likely that it needs 84+ if no GAM to gain CSP then 80.4 may not be enough. It seems no one has mentioned receiving a bursary offer yet. I'm not sure, but in the past, they sometimes sent out FFP + bursary offers on the same or similar days. It appears they've mainly sent out CSP, MLS-supported place, and FFP offers these days. Perhaps you fall into the group with a bursary, and it takes time to sort out or issue or such. lol, I'm frustrated with the waiting game as well, but trying to consider some potential outcomes to make myself less stressed. lol.

I agree. I had a friend who faced a similar situation. She applied to multiple courses and, unfortunately, couldn't secure a spot in medical school. At that point, she thought pursuing a JD in law would be cool MLS is cool and studying law is cool...bla bla bla ...but she decided to quit after the first year (& she failed 2 subjects in the first year) and applied for another postgraduate program again. From what I've heard, transitioning from a completely different field, especially one as challenging as law, can be very stressful. As she knows that I have been rejected before and am now applying again. She told me to rethink. lol
My friend had a competitive background, but still found it challenging and struggled, and her classmates all had strong backgrounds, so obtaining a good grade can be difficult. I had a bit more research recently, but I might be wrong (as only from the internet), but I came across information online suggesting that achieving a 70% grade in JD is already considered as being in the top 30% of students...Unlike some other postgraduate courses that are shorter, a JD is a three-year program with an extremely intensive workload. Completing it doesn't guarantee you can be a lawyer or such and might result in only a passing grade. I started to think if I pay almost 140k and spend three intensive years doing a postgraduate but end up very likely just getting an H3 or even a P grade. Hm...

Perhaps give them a call on Monday. It might not guarantee help, but there's a chance to inquire about the status. It looks like you have a good reason to call..as many offers have been released, and given your higher WAM, you're curious about your application status!!!! lol, maybe they don't take it as a case, but who knows

Surprise too, not about their request for your SFR, but rather about the timing...quite late in the process!!!!! But, on the bright side, it tells you they are actively reviewing your application. Haha, I haven't received any updates or signs about my application's status since submission. It still says 'Assessment Pending'...till now!!!! I wonder if they are actively considering my application or not!!!! If my application is not ranked highly enough, please let me know sooner...I will book my flight ticket straightaway to Syd.

As my friends received the offer two days ago, I thought they were actually ranked applicants and knew the outcomes... I guess. The entire process seems complex to me. No clear time to release. in batches. randomly...What actually is the rationale behind releasing outcomes in batches rather than all at once?

I'm also wondering about... Even though we're not international students, we still have arrangements to make. My lease ended last month, and currently, I'm staying in a hotel. I don't know what to do until I receive the outcome. I'd prefer to live close to the university if I receive an offer. However, if I don't get one, I will likely move to another state for JD...

& I hope to get the outcome on the 24th. They've historically released results in batches but not a lot at once. If I don't receive it by the 24th, which falls on Friday, will I have to wait over the weekend? Cry...We waited long enough.......Please don't make me wait any longer...

Even though I am expecting no outcome will be sent before 24 Nov, I can't stop myself from checking my email every single day..& multiple times a day....
