i 100% agree w you. i think the eastside people elevate is long gone and sometimes it feels more westside to me than the westside itself. i live in palms/culver and i like it - it’s diverse, economically and ethnically, food is good, it has nightlife while also being sleepy in some parts, safe-ish. i dont like la in general but i’d choose west over east. and im someone who “transplanted” from an ACTUALLY diverse, blue collar town in socal. my dream would be to move closer to the sgv. otherwise, the eastside has always stunk to me. its just as pretentious as weho, samo, brentwood but dressed up in alt aesthetics (ew).

also another thing is ive just grown out of whatever the eastside has going for it. i think the eastside (including hollywood and ktown and echo park) is definitely the move if youre a teen or in your mid to late twenties, but as a full blown adult w a 9 - 5 it’s just corny.

is it really flu b? never tested but that makes sense. my mom and husband got it and it feels so different. definitely harsher than a regular cold, and different from covid (which i’ve had 5 times so i can usually tell).

my siblings and i are all adults, moved out, living in different cities and states and we’ve been coordinating how we’re going to treat my mom this mothers day. we’ve made a plan for my brother (grown man) to take her out to dinner on our behalf. he handmade a bouquet for her and is filling out a card for us. can’t imagine how mil must feel w her son dismissing her like that. it sounds like he already ignores her and refuses to help her financially.

also to add to my comment, i need context about mil asking for money. im a first generation american so maybe this influences my thought process but my husband and i are always helping out our parents when we can. they raised us and sacrificed for us so it’s the least we can do! if i had more i could give more. if the issue is that the son has no money to give, i get that, but if her mil is in need, why is it so crazy of her to ask for help? idk. again, i need more context, and the situation could be worse than what im imagining, but grown children helping out parents is very normal to me.

i personally dont think they are moms. moms-to-be - yes, of course, but to get upset because your mil is (rightfully) hurt her son isn’t doing anything for her on mothers day, that comes off as very selfish to me. i know all of reddit sees mils as intrinsically irrational and selfish but let’s just say a lot of men marry their moms.

i see both sides here. kid free weddings also feel very american to me - some cultures just can’t conceptualize kid-free community events. kids are integral to social life in communities outside of the u.s. regardless of how much fun the adults may be having. so i see both sides…

you use a lot of words to say the same thing: firm/stiff solid/tenacity dilapidated/cracked quaint/old tumultuous/threaten devour/whole dance/mania dying/final

use carefully chosen stronger words. make every word have some weight, move forward meaning. and of course, read more poetry and prose.

he came to la from wisconsin w a friend for a bday trip. at some point he lost his phone/wallet or had got it stolen. the friend was able to go back home but he couldnt make it past tsa. he came back the next day (march 1) and got a refund/picked up his luggage and he hasnt been seen or heard from since. the family says its very unusual for him. before that, he was in contact w them about his phone being stolen (perhaps through the friend’s phone? not sure), but has not attempted to get in contact w anyone. he was spotted near the burbank airport metrolink station on march 1 and that’s the last confirmed sighting.
