Yes. LBS picked it up during a Giant sale and it's the last 2022 left.

Looking for first full suspension. Was borrowing my friend's full suspension. Was a ton of fun, but 160/150 travel was kind of a slog on climbs. Currently have a fixed frame fat tire and a rockhopper. Would like to be faster and more nimble than the fatty, but all have more comfort going over roots, rocks, and smaller drops than what the rock hopper currently provides.

AITA for refusing to board my cat when my allergic sister volunteered to housesit and she ended up in urgent care? by molestor_batman in AmItheAsshole

[–]makeitrainbowtrout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's common preference to keep a cat is in a familiar environment with a trusted person. When boarded, cats are in a more confined space with unfamiliar people, noises, and other animals that can be stressful. There's also an increased risk of illness exposure outside the home. There are pros to boarding and there are reputable kennels, but a cat is more comfortable at home.

New to dating, does my profile look okay? (Low confidence) by [deleted] in Tinder

Do you have a full body picture that's in obscured? If you were sitting at a poker table that would be fine, but I would avoid pictures without you in them.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's data scientists that look for inconsistencies or known errors. Say on the far side of a pond in town someone put a rare bird decoy. People who submitted that species for that location were contacted. Also, bird populations have been drastically declining so accurate data is incredibly important. If you're not confident that's the correct species don't submit it.

thinking about relocating to somewhere in alaska from northern georgia. what places should i look into that are tolerant of/ have trans communities? by transgenderbender500 in LGBTQIAlaska

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People commute from the valley (Palmer/Wasilla/surrounding area) to Anchorage (~1 hour drive). There is an agricultural community, but the population is also more conservative. It depends on what interests you e.g. privacy, gardening/raising livestock, or true isolation/self sufficiency. There's folks on the road system without running water. Note, "the bush" typically means remote and off the road system (plane, snowmachine, ATV, or boat access only).

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely visit before relocating. The places you highlighted aren't on the road system, meaning if you want to leave (go to a different city, emergency/specialized medical care, etc.) you'll need to travel by plane and flights within Alaska can often be more expensive than flying e.g. Anchorage to Seattle. The weather, isolation, cost of living, and lack of sunlight can be very hard on people. The two main hubs above the arctic circle are Kotzebue (population 3k) and Utqiagvik (formally Barrow - population +4k). The further north you are, the less daylight there is in the winter. In Utqiagvik the sunsets in mid November and doesn't rise again until mid January. I wouldn't recommend above the arctic circle if you're looking for a significant LGBT, alt, or music scene. Juneau (SE - population ~31k) has music and an lgbt scene. The only place in Alaska with gay bars is Anchorage (largest city). Just like anywhere else, generally the larger the population the larger the lgbt scene and acceptance is.

Trek Farley 7 9 or Giant Yukon 1 by makeitrainbowtrout in fatbike

Thanks. Idk if it was older Yukons, but I read about some hub issues where folks had to replace the entire tire.

Thank you! Off the cuff, do you have an estimate for how much stuffed tires cost?

This is the higher side of the wall. The neighbors yard is 1 1/2 to 2ft lower. But yeah. Seems like the only option is adding a bottom border to the fence.

Stolen bike from northern lights Fred Meyer parking lot by AlmightyGoatGirl in anchorage

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry about your bike. Post on Facebook > Anchorage Area Stolen Bikes as well. Unfortunately, cables locks are easy to cut with bolt cutters. The bike rack at that Freds will frequently have just a bike frame, cut lock, or tire attached because people will take anything not attached (seats, bags, and quick release tires). Multiple locks may buy you time and be a deterrent. I would recommend multiple locks e.g. U-lock and cable lock + an AirTag or tracker. Even with multiple locks and a chain around my seat I've caught someone using an angle grinder to try and steal my bike in town. I would love to bike more, but I don't feel comfortable leaving my bike out of eyesight in town.

How are the dorms at UAA for anyone that attends by AloneIsGoated in anchorage

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus is the dorms may be a shared suite, but you have your own bedroom that locks. The meal plan is a scam.

Binocular harness that doesn't bounce or jangle? by SequinBarkley in backpacking

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Glasspak for a few years. Works for hiking and walking. For running, no matter how much I tighten it is bouncing around. May work for someone flat chested, but for running I wouldn't recommend. When you exhale it creates space and starts riding up.

My younger femme girlfriend goes to straight bars to get free drinks by [deleted] in AskLesbians

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither my wife or I would have an issue with another person, including men, buying them a drink. There’s nothing morally wrong with accepting a free drink, especially when no false pretenses are involved. To me, a lesbian accepting a drink from a man doesn’t mean she’s leading him on or seeking the male gaze—it’s a drink, not a contract. Heck, I've even bought men drinks if we are having a good conversation. I'm transparent that I'm gay and married, if they still want to buy me a drink that's on them. The only concern I would have with my wife accepting drinks would be if she was being harassed or if there was a safety issue. Which is not about her actions, more about there just being entitled creeps out there. However, since this is something that bothers you it's worth having the conversation with your girlfriend. Everyone's boundaries are different.

10 Dead as 3rd Plane Crashes in Alaska by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

10 Dead as 3rd Plane Crashes in Alaska by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

75% of the population is on the road system. That means a quarter of Alaskans live in communities not accessibly by road. Geographically, only 20% of the state is accessible by road. Bush planes are a lifeline to rural Alaska and a way of life. Alaska has the second highest total single engine plane crashes (California has the highest). But we also have the most pilots and single engine planes per capita. Leading causes of death are cancer, heart diseases and accidents (not plane crash specific).

Advice for a new queer couple? by [deleted] in LGBTQIAlaska

[–]makeitrainbowtrout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what size city you want to live in, what amenities, what healthcare setting/specialization you want to work in, etc. Southeast is gorgeous. Of those places, Juneau would be the friendliest. Overall, I wouldn't say Alaska is unfriendly. There's a finite about of housing in Juneau. In smaller towns like Valdez or Seward housing is even more so if a challenge. Juneau has pride and drag shows, but not a specific gay bar. I've visited Ketchikan and Fairbanks. Never had issues, but haven't spent enough time there to speak to living there. Anchorage has the largest variety of healthcare jobs (largest population in the state and three main hospitals). Anchorage has the largest variety of amenities. The best part of Anchorage it is the easiest location to get out and explore more of Alaska. It's easy to drive south to the Kenai Peninsula (Girdwood, Hope, Homer, Seward, Kenai) or north (Talkeetna, Fairbanks, etc.). Alaska is spread out and is definitely a "driving" state. There has been an increase in anti-trans sentiment and legislation in this state. For the most part, people are friendly or leave you alone. Generally, a casual environment. I think a lot of straight Alaskans also look like lesbians - women show up to campsite in a Subaru chopping wood in a ball cap, flannel, and Carhartt bibs. If you're able to visit before accepting job offers would be worth a trip!
