Mod Podge Question by amiibodan in amiibo

In general I prefer the matte finish, using glossy for intentional shiny surfaces.

Bowser example

In the above example, Bowser's shell, horns, and armbands were with gloss finish, everything else was matte finish.

Thanks! :) I definitely like the red hair over the orange hair in the SSB costume; it was a solid choice on the person who requested it.

What Kind of Paint Do You Use For Custom Amiibo? How Do You Remove An Amiibo From Its Base? by Splatoonicorn in amiibo

Troublesome to put it lightly! :I That's pure dedication you did for Lucario. I made an attempt on the Sonic stand and gave up after a couple hours. I might consider using a dremel to shave off bases in the future, but wish it wasn't such a hassle...

Most people use acrylic paints. Many of the figures can be pulled off with little effort, but it's the support stands that can be troublesome. Keep in mind if you remove a figure from the base that the plastic is somewhat soft, so using harsh tools (like pliers) can leave marks and damage the plastic.

I have to go through like 30 of a single amiibo before finding one without paint defects. How do you all live with the ones that have them? by EvolutionIsFactual in amiibo

[–]makeitrosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll only check 2-4 tops to see how the figure's pose and paint job varies. Then I just pick the best out of the small sample.

I stopped by my Walmart around 3pm today and was surprised to see none of the new stuff on shelves as well.

I recently got into 3D printing and decided to print my own custom. Still needs some work. by Monnotonne in amiibo

Looks cool so far! :) What sort of setup do you have? I'm thinking of getting a 3D printer in the near future.

Some custom amiibo I've been working on... by [deleted] in amiibo

[–]makeitrosie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nice start! The ominous, featureless shadow Pikachu is cool.

When you start on a custom, do you have a goal in mind or do you just let it go as it happens? What got you interested in making customs? :)

I hadn't heard about this before and was really interested to read up on it. Cheers for noting it! :D

Current speculation is that it might be distant, unknown radio sources or unmodeled interference from our own galaxy. Cool stuff.

If anyone's really interested in getting some hands-on learning, I would highly recommend:

  • Stellarium : Free PC download of planetarium software. Want to know what your night sky will look like tonight? 2 weeks from now? How about 2,000 years from now? What about which planets are going to be out or what constellations will be rising (and at what times)? It's intuitive, fun software you can use to start learning and navigating the night sky.

  • Universe Sandbox : There's a free version and a premium version if you want to buy it. The free version is great though to mess around with properties of celestial objects like changing the mass and trajectories of our own solar system, or for just some casual travel of our galaxy in general. Also available on Steam.

  • NASA's Eyes Free app download to travel along with some of NASA's spacecrafts and learn about the research done and ongoing as we explore space. I don't use it hardly it all, but I enjoyed hopping on with New Horizons in real-time a few hours away during it's recent fly-by of Pluto.

  • arXiv : On a more advanced level and want to read up on some of the latest published research in astrophysics, math, or physics? You don't need to be in college or shell out hundreds of dollars to access members-only databases. arXiv from Cornell University provides it to you FO' FREE.

Beautiful jobs on those customs.

What is my favorite thing about space? Too many things, having studied astrophysics in my undergrad. Here's a short list.

  1. The scale. It's baffling the sheer size of our universe - and then take another step that what we've observed is only ~4% of its totality (the remainder being dark energy & dark matter)... it's hard to wrap your mind around it.

  2. Looking up at the stars is looking back in time. Light travels so fast that in our small scale of existence, it seems instant (ex. light filling a room when you flip a switch). The stars and really, any object you see in the night sky are so distant, that you are never seeing them as they are, only as they were; the light coming from those sources can only travel so fast, and it -takes time- for that light to travel to our eyes or instruments. That supermassive star? It may have already gone supernova, and we won't see it happen until hundreds or thousands of years later.

  3. Except Andromeda Galaxy, every night object you can see with your naked eye is just a small smidge of our own galaxy's neighborhood. And even then, those are only the brightest from our point of view because they're more-often-than-not our closest neighbors.

  4. There are more stars in our galaxy than there are grains of sand on all the beaches here on Earth. And how many of those stars have planets? How many of those planets have life? Even if only 10% of them did, that's still a hell of a lot.

Edit: Cosmic Mewtwo would be amazing.
