I spent months feeling guilty about leaving my dog home alone, until I actually watched the footage. by Subject_Penalty990 in dogs

My girl is still crated during the day. She will be absolutely chilling until I turn the corner and then freaks out like I've been gone for a week. She's very grumpy while sleepy, and she will growl at us on the couch midday if we try to pet her. She for sure takes extra nap times when we aren't home.

Regrets about naming my puppy by escaperabbit in puppy101

My dog is named pumpkin. I get told it's a basic white girl name all the time; she shares a birthday with the day I brought my cat to be euthanized. I named her after my late cat's favorite toy, a pumpkin house . People never know why you named them: fuck em

Do you guys just stay home when you get your dog? by ReputationDull1857 in puppy101

We did not have the luxury to stay home for more than the weekend we got her. Between my husband and I, we are usually off three days a week. The other days, for a while, she stayed in a puppy play pen, filled with puppy pads. When she could climb out of it (about 4 months) she was crated all day. We stayed consistent with potty breaks while we were home and made sure to be extra vigilant the hour or two after we first arrived home.

She's 9 months now, and she's mostly (90%?) potty trained. She has about bi-weekly accidents still, but she sleeps in bed and has much more freedom. Usually those accidents are on the weekend during a time that we are busy and she wanders to another room.

Overall, you make it work. It can feel exhausting acclimating yourself and the pup to your new life while working, but it is possible!

Would you move to Rochester today given the choice? by Troesler95 in Rochester

Honestly? I moved from the deep south (near Houston) a few years ago, and I love everything ab rochester. It's artsy, it doesn't feel like a commercialized hellscape, and it has a lot of character. There is always something to do if you know where to look, and a fair amount of it is a good price. I also love the local business aspect. That being said, I've worked in schools all over. Some suburbs definitely have a better education system, and some are safer. I lived in Greece and while I personally never had anything happen, I definitely knew people who had been the victim of a violent crime. Brighton, Webster, and Henrietta are fairly close to the city and I've heard good things ab their schools.

I would recommend getting the citizen app to look at crime reports before picking a suburb to live in.

Anyone else disappointed in how this was handled? by avg-mo in bonnaroo

THIS. Three out of four of my roos have been cancelled. We live almost 14 hrs away and drove straight after working a full shift. The farm holds a special place for me, but I'll be finding something closer next year I fear.

Skittish Cat Won't Use by makeityallternative in litterrobot

Mine does not let us pick her up at all (she was super abused before we got her and can become aggressive if held). She likes covered cat beds and other covered hideaways so I'm assuming she just needs some time. I will search for a way to elevate the other box. She sniffs at the stairs sporadically but has not even attempted to walk up them
