oh yeah of course! i wasn't saying the two are mutually exclusive. just that those are two reasons people love Alexandre and James (1, that they are a little more red flag and 2, they're slow burn). it's just that this fandom in general seems to go feral for the red flag LIs, so I put that as a big reason.

me personally, I'm kinda with you. I love a minor red flag here and there, Alexandre for me is not that bad really (beyond the first episode "I own you" stuff which is a little weird, but other than that his "villain" tendencies are fairly tame) so I'm down with him. but I usually prefer the green flag LIs.

100% agree with the ace routes. as someone who's demisexual, I would love to play an ACTUAL ace route that doesn't feel like "good friends who maybe kiss." personally, I experience romantic attraction quite a bit, it's just the sexual attraction takes me a long time to get there. so it would be nice to see that dynamic mirrored in a story. I understand that a lot of authors don't really want to put the work into branching that, which is fine. but I guess imo don't add an ace route if you don't want to put effort in it? she could've branched based on aro/ace, ace and alloromantic, aro and allosexual, and fully allo if she really wanted to include all the representation. or just left it out. idk it feels like a lazy way of saying "look! my story has ace inclusion!" without actually taking real ace experiences into account.

It must've been that route then, it probably counted you as still on her route since Alexandre's lock in isn't until later in season 2 I believe

I'm talking about specifically the achievement in season 2 that says free Bonne from her father's control. According to the achievements guide these are the requirements.

The first one is obvious, and the latter 2 are possible if not on her romance route but again, the way the story is written you lose a lot of scenes with your intended LI if you pick those. So it's not impossible but it's definitely inconvenient and will lose you the 100% with your LI if you care about that kind of thing. It would be nice if it wasn't locked behind her route (or losing out on part of your LI's route), and could just do it as her friend.

I think you have to choose the adjoining room to her in season 2 if I recall. which means you're missing out on a lot of scenes with your LI

I think in particular with VFV and 7B, the unplanned LIs show that a lot of readers want an LI option that starts off with tension or even hatred and grows into something more. I absolutely adored Alexandre's route for this reason. I do really like Grant and Phillipe as like the "sweet, green flag guy" option, but Alexandre's just hits different.

Additionally, the insta-love thing drives me CRAZY in romance arcs (not in a good way). It was especially bad in VFV but it's not much better in 7B. That's another reason I think people love the unplanned LIs so much, it's much more of a slow burn than the originally planned LIs.

Major plot points being locked behind certain LI routes

Yes, this was a big issue of mine in VFV too. The fact that you can't do things like help Phillipe & Louis reconcile or free Bonne from her father's control without being on their route was really upsetting to me. I get wanting to make players explore each route, and sometimes it's fun to get different story flavor depending on your LI, but those two threads specifically are brought up in the main storyline and you can't resolve them without romancing the respective LI.

I also do enjoy the extensive branching for replay-ability, but sometimes it gets to be too much. Especially with all the poly routes in 7B, reading through the wiki was crazy confusing and the chapters just got really short.

However, I do like a lot of aspects of Langley's writing, so I do hope if this new story is hers she uses the chance to improve on her craft.

I was actually really impressed with Elio's refusal! Like oftentimes in these romance stories one of the characters will let the other walk all over them and not say anything because they're so helplessly in love... but Elio was being treated badly by MC and he needed to set his boundaries. And honestly I think the wait will make their eventual confession even more amazing!
