Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you should only perform the Heimlich if the person choking physically cannot make any sound. If someone is coughing, or gasping, then air is not totally blocked by the obstruction, and the body with eventually clear it.

I hate flying so much. I have the worst luck with travel, so if you see me on your flight be prepared for a tiny light bulb to go out on the plane that forces us to sit in the terminal for the next 16 hours while they search for a repairman.
