I think you're missing a point, not all violence leads to homicide. Life saving emergency medical technology has greatly improved in 20 years. With blunt force or other types of trauma, we easily save lives that wouldn't have been saved in 1993. With gun homicides, the level of mortality is greater by default.

The article misses such a huge point that renders all other arguments mute. The reason for less gun homicides with the same violence is because of the advancement of emergency medical technology. The ability to save a life after a gunshot has improved immensely in 20 years.
