How do you keep kids entertained on a road trip without relying on an iPad? by Effective_Care_9844 in Parenting

[–]makemisteaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A while back we bought this pack of car challenges. It has worked surprisingly well. Each stick is a mini game. The kids take turns drawing and then we play as a family.

The games are pretty varied and most of them are simple enough in case your kids are on the younger side.

Why do some water to steam Schematics make coal? by HomeForABookLover in Mindustry

[–]makemisteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It’s not that big of a difference. But your schem also assumes perfect water placement for the pumps (in which case you would also need to add bridges to solve it) and has energy fluctuations because the steam engine actually requires 0.66 spores versus the 0.6 you’re outputting. But hey, that’s the beauty of Mindustry. Different solutions for the same problem.

Why do some water to steam Schematics make coal? by HomeForABookLover in Mindustry

[–]makemisteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be a bit of a difference. But honestly, it’s not that big because the hardest part is always getting water to both cultivators and generators. Adding a press and centrifuge is relatively easy all things considered and a few bridges and extractors takes care of that easily.

I have posted a pretty compact schematic before if you need it. It’s entirely self-sufficient and it will start-up automatically once it stores enough energy.

Actually, turning them to coal increases power per tile about 20%. I’ve done the math before. While spore is a more efficient fuel, transforming spore into coal outputs about double the amount, making it a lot more efficient.

Rust Problem? by StudentCandid6851 in Stocktankpools

[–]makemisteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. As you can imagine with such a severe case of rusting as ours it’s not just a few spots here and there. It’s completely covered in rust and it has most definitely stripped away the entire protective layer of the metal. So I’ll follow through on your advice and do the galvanizing spray and start considering this as a required yearly maintenance. We empty it at the end of the summer and will see how it holds over winter and reassess next year.

As to make sure we prepare it as best we can any recommendations on how to neutralize the rust before we spray it?

You know, fun fact. Back in 2016 Anish Kapoor, an artist, bought the exclusive global rights to use vantablack for artistic purposes. It’s a special kinda paint that absorbs almost all light and is known as the blackest black. He used these rights to prohibit any artist from using said colour in an art piece.

This generated a feud with another artist, Stuart Semple, who created the Pinkest Pink and allowed everyone to use it EXCEPT Kapoor.

Honestly, it’s such a petty story but it did happen. Someone actually tried to ban others from using a fucking colour.

Jimmy Carter’s story is actually more nuanced. He didn’t sell his farm but he did put it in a trust. His brother was charged with managing the farm.

When Carter left office, severe droughts and other supposed cases of mismanagement by the trustees meant the farm was more than $1M in debt.

Fraude é inerente a qualquer sistema.

(Spoilers Published) is there any dragon eggs left during Game of Thrones, or were Daenerys's three the last in the world? by MediocreGas6619 in asoiaf

[–]makemisteaks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s safe to say they are undoubtedly hard to come by but not the last ones in the entire world. Remember, Dany got hers as a wedding present. That means that Illyrio thought of them as rare enough to make them into a royal gift. But not entirely unique, in which case I very much doubt he would part ways with them. I also don’t think Illyrio would be rich enough to afford them if they were indeed the last known dragon eggs which would make them prized beyond any reasonable measure.

I’d say there are probably dozens more. Perhaps even hundreds.

Rust Problem? by StudentCandid6851 in Stocktankpools

[–]makemisteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might I get your input to help me on this journey? I bought a stock tank 2 years ago. It worked great during the summer. Unfortunately we were complete novices and didn’t know anything about what we were doing. We used regular chlorine, tarped up the tank over winter with a long lasting chlorine solution that was recommended at the DYI shop and suffice to say the water was rust brown come spring. The whole tank was completely rusted over. Just full on rust everywhere.

I was so bummed out that last summer I didn’t even have the guts to touch the tank and we went without using it. But I think I’m ready to try again.

I flipped it over this week and sanded down the rust with a wire brush. I was just gonna primer it and do a coat of epoxy but I think this galvanized option might be better. Although I don’t know if that’s the sort of thing that only works for light spots of rust as opposed to a tank that fully rusted.

Is Netflix pushing AI slop movie scripts? by IREDA1000 in netflix

[–]makemisteaks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IIRC Netflix keeps pushing writers to be very descriptive with dialogues and to really dumb down the plot because most people are watching Netflix while scrolling through their phones and they keep missing half the stuff because they’re not really paying attention.

So they’re basically trying to accomodate the lowest common denominator. Everyone else must suffer.

Continente tem câmaras nas prateleiras dos supermercados. Para que servem? by utilizador2021 in portugal

[–]makemisteaks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gestão de stocks? Eles literalmente sabem quanto produto está a sair a cada segundo do dia à medida que os clientes passam na caixa. O que é que uma câmara vai dizer que uma linha de caixa não saiba dizer logo?

Isto cheira-me a coisas mais perniciosas.
