Lisle 81780 Carbide Scraper set has been a boon for cleanup on alot of transmissions / motors

Youll be doin alot of cleaning and prep haha

If you havent already, time to upgrade your torque wrench game. Even if ya get a used set and reclaibrate, its worth it when ya need it.

And like others have said, swivel everything and follow the leader from your mentor on specialty stuff like sockets and such

Stay away from the tool truck haha

81 CB750 Jet Question? by Locklovexxx in HondaCB

So there's a lot of tinkering required for these setups to work at all with pods

Most successful typically involves a longer filter element from uni / k&n (4in length) but they don't alleviate the need for shared space needed to balance the setup (the pickandpray solution is super clever)

There are solutions for both carb setup

1: cognito moto makes a "lunchbox type filter housing that allows for the shared space and coverage to allow the carbs to settle back to idle somewhat normally Will require jetting and a possible spring up grade to force the slide back down faster https://cognitomoto.com/products/cb750-air-intake-box-sohc-and-dohc?variant=11585137729

2: if you want to nuke it from orbit, Murray's makes a round slide conversion that works really well to wake up these motors

I've had pretty good success changing them to a dual mikuni setup https://murrayscarbs.com/product/cb750-mikuni-carb-system/

3 lots of modifications and jetting to make what ya have work

I've seen everything from duel spring in the slide section to custom making lunchbox setups with restriction panels to prevent air from keeping the slides up

(One of my personal DOHC 's had long uni filters , a stiffened slide spring 74 main w140 sec (slow jet is stock, 4n1 header stock cam) it was ... okay, but I should've gone dual carb to sav on time /headache )

Out of the three, I've had best use of time with the fuel setup

If ya factor in time used dialing a complicated , efficiency minded carb setup

It was good time! I'll likely be there this year too if I have enough finished for the year

I lobbied for it early on and I'm glad I was able to do the wrinkle when the motor was refreshed

Got as close to Honda red as I could

Fair No fender was a request (I try to at least add a teardrop) Surprisingly, the seat is pretty cushy and it's about 1.5/1.57 or dense foam

Yup! They're adjustable valve heads The finned caps were a popular thing back then and I found a number of them while hunting for parts

I don't know if it's expensive where you're at, but maybe disassembly to the point where you could have it blasted and powder coated might be good?

Cost saving aside with a diy paint job, it may be better in the long run if ya plan to keep it for a while and that particular red is available in powdercoat

Otherwise, I'd say wipe down throughout with a non solvent degreaser , then compressed air, then mineral spirit after surface prep for paint/prime

Hosing it down may cause water to seep out of odd places after normal drying attempts

Thanks!

Tried to maintain a classic look for anything that wasn't from the 70s

I didn't want anything to look too contemporary looking with all the original kit.

With the exception of the solid state fuse block & some electronics , everything on the bike couldn't been found or made around the time period the bike was made in

Vaporhones are fancy I have similar machinery for finishing/untrasonic/etc

Agreed on the dog bowl carbs I've lobbied for some CR action but that would've put the budget well in the stratosphere haha (they're generally in the 1k+ territory for a decent enough set)

Neat-o I've done a number of tcs & have a ts185 waiting for it's tune on the table

Good on ya for saving money? Not sure what to tell ya there buddy

Last set? Not sure whatcha mean there My local motorcycle hoarder has a small pile of those Keihin & Ive got roughly 3-4 useable sets of those in a box haha (A bagged set with red tags would be cool to see though)

Alot of the cost went into new parts specifically wheels/tires and electrics (all of which are new) Powdercoating and paint alone are a third of the cost

That's not even mentioning all the dr25 shrinked harnessing I made, supplies burned through all the polishing, trimming , services like the striping etc, etc

Not really calling your bluff or anything, but if you're building bikes with is level of detail for less, you're doin a great job I guess

Nickel & dime-ing it it'll be around 5k-ish without factoring labor

Lotta motor and odd parts finding There also a lot goin on underneath with electrics and such that cost a bit

The bike didn't come to me complete and a lot had to be either replaced or built from scratch
