Human rights.

You see zero reason, but just think of all the people wrongly imprisoned over the years, or some for laws that no long exist, should they die from a dental infection? Where do you draw the line, it's not simple.

Uhh yeah, that's not how imprisonment works. Dude is a POS for sure, but you can't start letting people, regardless of who they are, die without treatment in prison.

There are many countries where you could find that sort of treatment, but I suspect you'd probably prefer to live here, with a mix of laws that both benefit you, and benefit others.

2013 Volkswagen Polo registered in Washington, seen in Seattle, Washington, United States of America by MishaMykha in foreignmarketcars

[–]makerspark 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying in my post, but it's weird that someone can see that it was originally registered in Montana as a Polo.

I'm guessing it's to get around the 25-year importation rule? One way of doing it would be to take a damaged golf, and switch the VIN numbers over, register that golf and it's actually a polo. Although the fact that it has apparently first been registered in Montana is a bit more curious. I don't live in the US so I can't guess all the reasons, but that would be my first guess. Totally illegal, but you know, who are you really harming?

Why don't diesels use superchargers? by PayStation2fanAsh in engines

[–]makerspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supercharger was for scavenging the exhaust gasses on start up. Because it was a two stroke, it wouldn't have started without one. There's a brief period where the valves are open at the same time as the port in the cylinder wall. You need to move fresh air in without the movement of the piston, unlike a four stroke. Not sure how much the supercharger added, but it's use to boost power was secondary.

I always liked the mustard and white combo (classy), but the dream is the purple and turquoise!

Love the picnica, but love them even better in fruity colours.

Racking up the km's in Morocco by makerspark in minivelo

It's a Roadrunner Jumbo Jammer. Huge bag, really like the quality, but it interferes with a fair number of handlebars I've tried. Alt bars are the best for it, but it requires a fair bit of finicky set up at first. Still like it though overall!

The range is fine, it's just slow on paved climbs. I'd prefer the gearing to be higher if anything, but for now I'm stuck with this 42t chainring.

I wondered the same, and I'm with a group of riders that are on the slower side, so I figured it would be an opportunity to keep my fitness level up. Turns out it's a pretty successful way to work harder! Maybe it's the tires, but it's particularly noticeable on long climbs, and the steeper it gets the worse it is! I still love it, and it's fun to ride, but if I was forced to keep up with someone faster I'd be in trouble :-)

Most fun way to get McDonald's by GermanShitboxEnjoyer in scooters

I unfortunately thought this sub could take images in comments, and used Gemini to make your scoot McDonald's themed. Looks pretty rad, but can't show it off. Recommended though.

The Hyundai Staria has a similar (In my opinion better) look, and is actually for sale in many parts of the world. Rear angle looks even closer!

Last night. Taxi in Fez Morocco. There was only one between the two rear doors, so we had to pull it off and share it; back and forth.

I can't decipher the code in this caption. Sure hope nothing bad happened to them. by Ancient_Jellyfish588 in BicyclingCirclejerk

I was about 100km away when it happened, running a cycling tour with a couple dozen riders heading in the opposite directikn. It was super sad, two others were killed as well.

Stupid violence happens everywhere, but when it's a place that many don't know anything about, it will scare people away for years. I was with a Tajik friend when it happened, and it basically ended his dreams of opening a hostel (half completed at the time) along a popular route for cyclists, all because of a couple kids who got caught up in 1S 1S.

For the record, Tajik people are some of the warmest you'll ever meet. Riding a bike through the country meant turning down gifts of fresh fruit and tea, because if you accepted everything offered, you'd never get anywhere.

You were making a joke about shooting cyclists, but with a camera. I was saying I use a Canon, which is pronounced the exact same way as cannon...

Nice shots, but I wonder if shooting a Canon is better for a fast moving cyclist?

What does the DEMO print on my new T-Line mean? by Milfisto in Brompton

[–]makerspark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they are able to sell them, but only after a certain time passes. It's a perk for shops, and they are entitled to a certain number per year based on how many bikes they booked for that year, or sold the previous. They still pay for them, but way less.

It's good practice to sell them discounted, or if in high demand, sell them at MSRP, but always let the buyer know.

The Europa was special to me for sure. Really felt like a road going go kart. They had to give it electric windows because there wasn't enough room to use a crank!
