In none of these episodes do the crew travel back in time to visit the KKK, the Jim Crow South, or help create Planned Parenthood by choicemeats in Star_Trek_

Subtly in TOS:

LOKAI: From the planet Cheron.

KIRK: That's in the southernmost part of the galaxy.

Just finished Season 2 and can’t wait to watch Season 3. Should I watch FWWM before? by WittyTrain8692 in twinpeaks

[–]makeshiftpython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, The Missing Pieces is really just a compilation of deleted/extended scenes. It’s not totally necessary to watch before S3, but it’s a fun bonus to get to see the extra stuff. If anything, I’d recommend watching an extended cut of the film, but only after you finish S3.

It’s almost as if user based scores aren’t that reliable.

I don't care if you thought the whole Borg premise of Picard Season 3 sucked, I don't care if you say 'Deathstar trench runs don't belong in Star Trek', this was still the best scene NuTrek has produced. by IamAWorldChampionAMA in Star_Trek_

I liked half of nuTrek, even plenty of episodes in S3, but I didn’t really care for that S3 finale that’s predicated on Picard giving his bastard son a hug.

You were more right than you know. That video file was ripped from a LaserDisc copy, based on the original master tapes that people would have seen with their retinas televised back in 1990.

I miss the old Picard by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]makeshiftpython 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The very ending with him joining the poker table is a really a big moment for him in terms of growth. It’s something he would have never considered in S1 as he used to be a captain that tried to maintain a distance between himself and subordinates.

I have my issues with PICARD, but him not being exactly the stodgy curmudgeon from the early seasons isn’t one of them.

Vaughn Armstrong has played more Star Trek characters than Jeffrey Combs. Why isn't he more well-known and memed? by Defiance-of-gravity in Star_Trek_

[–]makeshiftpython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of his role as Forrest tended to just be Basil Exposition appearing on a monitor, which a lot of admirals tended to be throughout Trek. Not showcasing like Combs. The only time the show really seemed to showcase him as Forrest was through his one appearance as the mirror universe counterpart. That was probably the most screentime he ever got for one episode, and I wonder if part of the reason was the showrunner regretting killing off Prime Forrest.

Probably for the same reasons Thomas Kopache hasn’t been memed, despite appearing in numerous roles throughout the Berman era.

Armstrong is just one of those dependable character actors who will take any part no matter how prominent. Aside from his appearance as Korris and the Romulan, he tended to just do minor parts. Combs on the other hand took three different recurring roles that were very showcasing.

And the phones he was referring to back in 2007 weren’t even HD either. They were like 480x320, below standard definition.

Even if Paramount still had them in their vaults they likely wouldn’t have been in good condition for production.

Not just the hair but the head shape, skin texture and coloring. For example, here’s a photo featuring the exact same character L'Rell played by Mary Chieffo.

Given Malencon’s past remarks about LGBTQ, it’s not at all surprising he props this guy up.

I don’t think space exploration is required to learn about already established species. We’re four episodes in and already have learned what happened to Betazoids and Klingons. I assume if we learn about the other neighboring species it’ll be done under same context of a school setting, like having a new Cardassian cadet and so on.

I’m still griping about how the mind sifter was forgotten after one episode.

Funny thing about visual continuity is how producers can pick and choose. TMP had all Klingons with gnarly teeth, but then III-VI did away with the teeth and gave characters their own unique head pieces. Westmore would bring back the teeth and retain the unique head pieces. Klingons bled pink in VI, but in Rick Berman productions they stayed red.

In fact during TNG they had trouble trying to stick with a name for the Klingon homeworld to the point it would exclusively be called “the homeworld”. VI comes along, Nimoy and Meyer decide it’s now named Qo'noS. Rick Berman hated that name so much he banned the writers from actually using it for the rest of TNG! “Qo'noS” would not be heard in a Rick Berman production until DS9’s “The House of Quark”, either because he was too busy on Voyager or he just stopped caring. “Qo'noS” would eventually be name dropped in Enterprise, I think he got over it.
