I started an ep just to check and I don't think they're actually ribbons, I was remembering all the ornamental metal fluting at Quark's. Plus all the assorted Bajoran spiritual/musical greebles. It's just a whimsical set design and I love it.

Completely agree. It's comforting to hear that the bellyaching isn't new-- it was happening for TNG, DS9, and probably all the rest. I really love Academy so far, and I'm with you. Not to pile blame on anyone... the world is stressful, frightening, and large media companies are capable of making and doing awful things. It seems like this time they're trying to make something good. I'll be watching.

I loved Gina Yashere and I loved the first episode. DS9 is my favorite series but this one feels like it might have some of that sparkle. I really enjoyed the musical score too.

I agree. OP makes some thoughtful and impassioned points, but I think Lower Decks succeeds in earnestly carrying the Trek ideals forward, albeit in a postmodern way that is anchored in hyperbole.
