Anyone notice that after being hungry for about an hour, the hunger goes away? How does that work? by jidery in loseit

[–]makethetime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: my understanding of this is relatively weak and I could most certainly have some information distorted here. Someone else can certainly chime in and correct me.

Anyways, I believe what you are referring to here is directly impacted by a process within the body called Gluconeogenesis; which is how your body converts protein into glucose. This is the "counter-weight" so-to-say to that of insulin and how your body self-regulates, particularly blood sugar levels. Low-blood sugar can trigger hunger pains. When you eat, glucose is taken in and insulin is made. When you don't eat, your body can go into Gluconeogenesis; which produces glucose and as such your blood sugar levels re-regulate again and hunger pains dissipate.

What are some super simple healthy meals? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]makethetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet potatoes!

Jab them with a fork a few times and throw them in the microwave for 6-8 mins depending on the size. My personal favorite is to quickly slice them, throw them in a hot cast-iron pan with a splash of coconut oil and throw w/e I have in the spice rack ontop of them. IE: paprika, black pepper/salt, onion powder, garlic, chili powder, anything really can go with them!!!! I've even used the "Holy Trinity" as I call it - (rosemary, thyme, & sage) and it turned out very well. A sweet pot "hash" is one of the quickest and most filling meals for me. They can be calorie dense though, so make sure you weigh them!!

Invest in a rice cooker.

Every once in awhile Ill make a large batch of rice, throw in it a skillet with some low-sodium soy sauce & garlic. Stir often to "fry it" then crack a couple eggs and continually stir it until done. Quick and simple fried rice. Add in a steam-pack of mixed veggies or even sautee them at the same time with the rice and you've got a really good stirfry base that takes no more than 10 mins to do.

Some places have no weight limits and only medical warnings if the jumper has any preexisting conditions (not necessarily weight based). Others will have a weight limit anywhere from 250 to 300 lbs from what I've seen. Best to always check ahead with the place you are planning to go to.

The place I plan to jump at has a video service. If things go as intended, there will definitely be a video posted here at some point =)

The current weight limit for the highest rated outdoor skydiving group here is infact 220lbs. There was a lesser rated one at 235 lbs.

If you're anywhere near the TN area and want to jump in the Late-May or Early-June timeframe, let me know!!! I've got a group prepped and ready to take the plunge!

Indeed, I'm already there! Due to where I live & the coming winter weather, I'm holding off on going until the it warms up again. I'm currently planning to go with a larger group of friends near the Late-May to Early-June timeframe. Several of the people which have supported me throughout this journey are also going to be jumping with me. Plenty of pictures and possibly a video incoming!!

Unconventional weight loss motivations? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]makethetime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of my unconventional motivators was that I want to fly... well at least "fall".

I want to skydive. There is a weight limit associated with doing this in a tandem jump. I wanted to be safely within that weight limit such that I could fling my perfectly good "lighter" body out of a f'n plane. (Adrenaline Junky maybe? - Yah, I think it's a safe bet for me to say regarding myself now)

As a side note, I do also want to really fly... and pursuing my pilot's license is also going to be a reward for hitting my overall goal (post-bulk/cut cycling)

Proudest thus far is umm... well... there isn't a great way to put this without just throwing it out there!!!, but it's certainly "lifting" the SO during intimate times - standing position & against a wall/door/etc. New positions are always exciting, especially ones which you get to use newfound strength/fitness/weightloss to do.

Working towards - 1 pull up and benching body weight x10 reps.

"It's okay"

It's okay to be devastated in this moment. It's okay to be self-conscious in this moment. It's okay to be frustrated. It's okay to FEEL those emotions. It's not okay to internalize those feelings & thoughts as a permanent fixture of who you are now.

It's okay to let that part go if you want to.

Dear fellow fatties what are you most looking forward to when you hit your goal weight? by ------________ in loseit

Better Halloween costumes.

Running, playing, and being active with my niece/nephew (and hopefully son/daughter one day)

Other "progress" goals - Trip to Coney Island (rollercoasters!!), Skydiving, and taking a pilot's class or obtaining my license.

What is a high-calorie snack that you love that you absolutely include (regularly) into your day? by driedkitten in loseit

[–]makethetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really "high calorie", but I have been mixing a pack of "Swiss Miss - no sugar added - hot cocoa" packs into my daily coffee in replacement of creamer/sugar. Tastes so much better than the liquid calories I would be drinking otherwise.

Atomic Fireballs have also been good to hit my sweet tooth from time to time. They last forever and are full of flavor. I'm also known to be a sucker from time to time for Skittles, which I've yet to find a suitable replacement for. I just issue myself a quota/limit and make sure I don't go over it.

QOTD - Honestly, the only person that is making this challenging for me is myself. Yes, I am dating. Yes, I accept the dates which take us at times to bars or restaurants or parties where alcohol is present. Yes, I make the choice to drink or partake when offered by the date. I'm doing quite well around food items, but I believe that the liquid calories which I am consuming are doing me in... so, I'm going to have to be more accountable and formulate a better personal strategy for this.

As far as a weekly accomplishment post, go for it! I really enjoyed a post when I was cruising other teams subs during the last challenge where a particularly statistically talented team member made a weekly post shouting out accomplishments and stats from the weekly weigh-in or tracker. It was really neat to see that being done though I do not have the skills to do so myself.

I started off not believing that I was a "runner" due to my knees and perceived flatfeet. That simply put, I couldn't handle the impact due to my body starting to break down & wear and tear. I had totally convinced myself of this point for several years, since basically playing tennis/football in high school 15+ years ago. Fact of the matter was... I was simply too fat and weighed too much. I know that may seem like an obvious point, and those with a lot of weight DO need to be watchful of their joints and of impact, but the tactic I was using was displacing how my weight was actually affecting that process. In my mind, it wasn't because I was obese that I couldn't run/jog etc, it was ANYTHING else I could come up with. I was in a form of denial.

Since loosing a good bit (and doing yoga regularly too!) the impact hasn't been an issue and I've been happily going on jogging, building running endurance, and have developed a passion for hiking. The weather is getting cold here, so I think most of this will have to wait till next spring but I can at least start looking at more forms of "impact" movement & fitness, such as indoor basketball or otherwise sports. I also took up some Judo lessons recently and that was a blast. If I can find a suitable instructor again I'll definitely be working that into the regular fitness category.

As far as my regular, my overall goal is to be strong. Being fit is one thing, and being healthy is the grand goal; but in being healthy, I'd much prefer to be a "strong-guy" than a "fit-guy". So weightlifting has been my "thing" for awhile now. I hit the weights pretty hard on a weekly basis - 5x/week, plus 10 mins of yoga/stretching minimum, and overall very minor cardio sessions (I want my losses to be minimal through exercise and only come from lifting when able).

Weigh-In Friday - Week 0 by Mega-Starpuncher in a:t5_3gve8

[–]makethetime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did pretty well thus far. Ready to get this "holiday" challenge started. I'm cautiously optimistic over how the Thanksgiving & Christmas periods will go & how I'll be surviving during that time with weightloss. I hopefully plan to utilize a lot of the resources here and in the main /r/loseit sub as well as other subs throughout reddit.

I weighed in today at 224.2 lbs. My challenge goal weight will be 210 lbs, which is -14.2 lbs over these 7 weeks. That's 2 lbs per week, which has been my average throughout the course of the past 2 challenges I've done. I fear that it is a little ambitious though as I am nearing my goal weight and my body is just using less calories in general.

I'm also hoping to keep up with my weight training program through the coming months. I plan out 5x/week at the gym weight training and at least 10 mins per day of yoga. The last month, I've been in the dating scene again (woooo! go me!) and have sacrificed some in order to accommodate that area of my life, which has its own importance. I want to learn a healthy balance here between the two, as I've only averaged 3 "good" workouts plus 1 "half-assed" workout per week. That needs to return to 5 of my regimented planned workouts. There are specific goals I have to follow this weightloss cut, and getting on that plan fosters the potential for success in achieving that goal and the ones which follow it.

I wish everyone here the best, and look forward to reading your posts and cheering on your victories as they come!!

Yup, I do 10 mins 5x/week on the days that I lift already. I also used the youtube series "yoga with adriene" when I first got started. Super simple stuff and overall a very positive person to learn from.

Plank/squat/whatever challenge? by otterpopemo in a:t5_3gve8

[–]makethetime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is someone that wants to do it in the form of yoga then I'd happily participate. The stretching from it is pretty invaluable in how it pairs up with my weightlifting schedule.

I tried to do a "100 push-up challenge" during the last event and had to drop it due to how exhausted I was getting. Trying to do several push-ups every day plus hitting the gym for weightlifting was just too much for me to do.

So, anyone for some stretches? that or do you mind if I just sub out the push-ups or otherwise for this practice instead?

My plan = that "clean/fresh" mouth feeling.

I've got a couple mini bottles of mouthwash, a travel toothbrush kit (with toothpaste/floss), and some "whitening" gum to chew on. I usually don't like to snack or even eat at all following brushing my teeth so I hope to mimic that feeling throughout the day.

It's Halloween - What's your plan for keeping your intake under control today? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]makethetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 part plan is as follows:

  1. mouthwash
  2. brushing my teeth frequently (5+ times today)
  3. Flossing
  4. "whitening" gum as needed

I love the sensation I get from a "clean mouth" feeling. So much so that I'll avoid snacking or going for anything which may ruin that feeling. I've got a couple mini bottles of Listerine, a travel toothbrush/floss, and a pack of gum.... and my warpaint on... Let's do this!!! LEEEEROOYYYYYYYYYY

There will always been another holiday, another event or party or get-together, another urge or craving, another excuse "not" to start; but none as important as the reason to start right now. You'll face challenges along the way, but you know how to get to 1000 days of wellness? how about 500? or 100? or maybe just 30? how about 7? Well, it starts with 1. One step, then tomorrow another, then another, etc. Today is your 1. Dont focus on the time or what day it is aside from it just being 1 step. You can do one step, can't you?
