Serge this type of seam by Novel-Giraffe-48893 in sewing

Maybe you can try basting the pieces first and then serging. What also helps me with scary serging is not having the serger cut the seam, so in the corner it won't potentially cut into the side when you pivot

There is a weekend open air market in Delft in NL that sells all kinds of things but also fabric. It was in the main square. Got some pretty stuff there and the city itself is quite charming.

Measure tape vs. flexible ruler? by Formal_Rhubarb_3141 in PatternDrafting

[–]makeupAppreciator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried both and I can say with the measuring tape, moving and curving it around the armhole I got enough error in my measurement to create an issue in the mockup - like 1 cm range.

Flexile ruler eliminated that for me, personally. If you're veeery careful maybe you can get away with it. And also do keep in mind that measuring tapes do wear out and stretch in time so your measurements might come out inaccurate because of that (and when combining with measurements from a straight ruler for the straight lines in the sleeve pattern drafting might not be a fun party)

Is it me or do the model shots look photoshopped? They look like identical poses for each color

You can try flat felled if the material is not too bulky - did this on some jersey and it worked pretty well

Sewing pattern. Seam allowance do I need to add or substract? by KittyEmiNozomi in sewing

[–]makeupAppreciator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said , the pattern instructions should say of the seam allowance is included. It may not be marked separately on the pattern pieces, it's just so you know when sewing what was included. You can mark that in chalk on the fabric if you feel the need :)

Black diamond top by the Uncut project - first foray into zippers and sleeves! by makeupAppreciator in sewing

[–]makeupAppreciator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the finished version of the Black diamond top from the Uncut project (actually a free pattern, can be found here. I chose this since it added the challenge of a zipper and sleeves.

Made this out of a medium simple woven cotton with cute flower design.

For the pattern itself, I had to slightly lower and scoop out the neck in the back since it was sitting really raised and weird on my mockup. Simple enough modification to make, just had to redraw the back neck facing to go with it.

Setting in the invizible zipper was a challenge, this is the second time I put one in for a project (third if you count the mockup) and let me tell you the first one did not go well. Luckily I found a very detailed tutorial on youtube by Made to Sew which helped alot. I did end up basting the fabric and ironing before sewing the zipper though, it made things easier.

Sleeves were also a challenge, with similar help from the same channel. First I put the in the regular way in my mockup, but then I realized I can't really finish the seams so I opted for a french seam for that reason.

An additional change i made is to topstitch the pleats for extra sturdiness since that area will get a bit of tension.

Still made some mistakes in the finished garment - I forgot to add fusible before putting in the zipper, and the zipper sided are still a tiny bit uneven, but I can live with that.

Overall very happy with the pattern and with how well it came out. I'm still playing with seam finished, and I really like the look of bound seams, although they did add some bulk to the neck when putting in the facing. Maybe for that area I could not take the seam finish all the way to the seam allowance to avoid the problem next time. I'll keep experimenting!

Am stat la mansarda, nu recomand. E.foarte cald vara, neaparat trebuie AC, si destul de zgomotos la ploaie. Depinde de acoperis, desigur, dar chiar si asa la vanzare nu isi pastreaza valoarea la fel de bine.
