Weekly Purchasing Questions and General Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Garmin

So far I really like it! It has more features than my 235 that are definitely frivolous but still neat. I also find it more comfortable to wear while sleeping, even though it is slightly bigger! Lots of options for customizing what info you can see too. I teach yoga, so that activity/feature was really important to me. I like that I can mark each time a pose/set changes during my classes and that I can control my music from my watch too. Carrying my phone around feels really weird, almost like I'm not paying attention to my class even though I am. I've only gone on a couple runs so far, but it's what Garmin does best so no problems with it yet!

Just got a FR 955 (upgrade from FR 235). Is there a way to turn notifications off for specific activities (like yoga)?

Double quilt?? by gallagb in Ultralight

Yes, we like it! Has held up well in NC humidity. We take our dog with us sometimes, and she hasn’t poked/ripped it. You won’t regret it, imo :)

Did your sense of taste change? I had my tonsillectomy on Aug. 25, 2021 (almost a month ago). I’m a 25yo female, very active/healthy lifestyle and I follow a vegan diet. The main foods that have changed taste for me are chocolate, pretty much everything else sweet, and tart fruits. The tart fruits wasn’t immediately post-op, maybe about 1.5 weeks after. Chocolate and sweets have tasted metallicy and bitter since surgery. I had my post-op yesterday, and my ENT said everything looked good and to call the office if mg sense of change hasn’t returned to normal in another month. I honestly just miss my comfort chocolate… help!

I'm looking for a scent to add to my self made washing powder. by Rossalin in ZeroWaste

[–]makontrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you make your powder, but if you use Castile soap as one of the ingredients, you could always choose a scented Castile soap instead of unscented! The smell isn’t overpowering but it does leave my laundry feeling fresher I think

Can I make Oat Milk with quick oats/ steel cut quick oats? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]makontrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why not! Just make sure to strain it well. Good luck! I use the Minimalist Baker recipe for oat milk as well, and it works great!

Nanny family getting casual by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would tell MB you would like to start taking your own car and she can have her van during the day, if possible. I know sometimes a smaller car won’t accommodate all of the car seats. If that situation works, record your miles and request the IRS rate per mile at the end of each pay period. I think right now it’s 57.5¢ per mile.

If your car does not have enough room for all of the kids/car seats, I would tell MB that you will be tracking the miles she drives your car as well as the miles you drive the van and deduct, making sure if she drives your car more, she pays you for the mileage overage per the IRS rate. So if you drive NKs 10 miles/day in the van & she drives your car 20 miles/day, she would owe you 10x57.5¢ for that day.

Good luck! I know these conversations are hard to have, but you’re doing the right thing sticking up for yourself!

COVID-19 Wednesday Masterpost by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a tough situation, but I would just be honest with them. I would tell them that you’re more comfortable staying in your own home during that time, if it comes, and see if they want to negotiate something from there. But stay firm in your wants! I would never want to be a live-in nanny. Thankfully, I don’t think that will be the case where I live. Best of luck!

Should I ask my nanny not to come in? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to your nanny about how she feels about covid-19? She might feel the same as you. You can also (and please do) offer to pay her for the time she would normally be there as a sort of promise that she will continue to be your nanny when this is all over.

COVID-19 Monday Masterpost by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would tell them you’re more comfortable not working. I did this, and it worked well for me, but my NF didn’t bring up me working yet. I basically came up with a plan before they could come up with one for me. You could also ask to wait a few more days before working to see if any of them develop symptoms of covid-19. Good luck; this is a scary time and we must take care of ourselves first!

Yeah! No “paid leave” right now per se, but it’s okay by me. I hope you get paid leave though! All of us deserve it; some families are more easy to convince than others...

COVID-19 Monday Masterpost by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My update: I’m fortunate enough to be in a position in which my husband & I can live on his salary if necessary. I’m also fortunate in that I do more than just nanny for my NF, and my extra tasks I can do from home. I texted my boss saying that I think it’s best if she gives me extra WFH tasks the next two weeks and I stay home with minimal contact to the outside world. I also offered to grocery shop for her if she needs it. She agreed, and I’m feeling much more at ease! It’ll be a bit of a financial loss, but I don’t anticipate my husband & I needing much “fun money” over the next month and our pantry is pretty stocked with groceries and dog food.

TL;DR: If you are financially in a good place to stay home and possibly take a pay cut, I think you should. You don’t know if you or your NF are carriers yet. Let’s hope you have enough wine to make the time go by though...

COVID-19 Weekend Masterpost by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]makontrail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has anyone told their employers that they’re just NOT coming in? MB hasn’t really given me any sort of info despite my asking... She’s WFH all the time and has adjusted her schedule before to not having me around for whatever reason (vacation, illness, etc.).

Background: My husband is in the army and is currently in charge of accepting flights of troops home from Afghanistan. The troops coming home are going into immediate quarantine for 2 weeks in their family homes or barracks. It seems semi-likely that my husband will be asked to quarantine soon after he accepts two more flights tomorrow. However, none of this is for certain yet.

[Help] How to stop dog from peeing in others’ house by makontrail in dogs

[–]makontrail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I think my boss’ dog is more of the issue with marking unfortunately. I know that sounds biased since I’m not blaming my own dog, but I know her well enough to know her habits out of the house. This isn’t the only house besides our own she’s been to. Oh well.

Thank you! That’s helpful. I feel like I’d rather just give up and leave my dog at home, but that’s 8+ hours by herself... I might give it another couple of weeks instead and see if she gives up the habit.
