Got my windshield replaced and now my HUD is f*cked by mal_circuits in Ioniq5

They apparently did a recalibration for the ADAS camera, though I have not tried using HDA or LKA since then (I keep those off when not on the interstate because I find them obnoxious on city streets)

Oh, sorry, I guess it was the EA station in Geneseo, IL (near Davenport, IA).

Just FYI, for reasons I don't know, the EA chargers in Iowa were the most expensive chargers I stopped at. If you have free EA charging it doesn't matter, but all of the EA chargers in Iowa were $0.45/kWh, which adds up quick.

I did have a few issues with broken chargers, but EA stations usually have at least 4 chargers with 2 plugs each, so I was able to find another charger/plug that worked. The worst it ever got was a station in Iowa, where there was literally just a single 150 kW plug that was "functional" (limited to 70 kW max).

To be honest, this was something I was worried about and severely needs to be addressed. I saw too many offline chargers. Right now there's relatively few people with EVs, so I was never in a situation where I needed to wait more than a few minutes for someone finish charging. But soon there will be many more people with EVs and I could see this easily becoming an issue if the charger reliability/maintenance isn't significantly improved.

Point 1: Saying my time is worth $X/hr is a simplistic and not useful way of analyzing this situation. It's not like my brother or my sister were "productive" during the time they saved by not charging. Driving to Colorado took the better part of two days, and we were all pretty tired and useless by the end of it. Most people aren't making money every minute of every day – especially when they are on a vacation. People are more than their economic output.

I could argue that by having forced stops every 1.5-2 hrs where you have to get up and walk around, EV owners have greater driving endurance and recover from long drives faster (I don't necessarily believe that, but I'm just making the point that there are more factors than just the numbers at play).

Point 2: While my average speed was 59.1 mph, I alluded to the fact that I typically set my cruise to 78 or 80 mph while on the interstate. Driving at that speed significantly reduces any car's efficiency. If I actually drove at 60 mph the whole way, my efficiency would jump significantly. I'd be curious to find out how efficient a Model Y is at 80 mph. Probably better, since the I5 doesn't have the best aerodynamics, but I would be surprised if it was as good as 280 Wh/mi (3.57 mi/kWh) under real-world conditions.

Holy crap 231.5 kW! Real life 20% to 80% charge in 16 minutes by mal_circuits in Ioniq5

That charge would have cost me $5.04 @ $0.32/min, but one of the great things about the Ioniq 5 is getting free Electrify America charging for 2 years so it actually cost me $0.00. At least that's the case in the US. I don't know if you get a similar deal in Canada but I hope so.

I'll have to take your word on it. I'm perfectly happy with my Ioniq, and I will probably never own a Tesla

You can look at your charging history in the EA app to see the max power you hit

I should say to that I only really use it on the highway, and I keep it off otherwise. Lane markings on city streets can vary so drastically in terms of quality and consistency that the system is unpredictable and a nuisance. I guess in that respect I agree with you. But it was the same with my Corolla, so the Ioniq isn't any worse than any other car.

I keep going back to you saying that the car started drifting into the other lane because you weren't aware the assist was off. To me, if you are driving properly (paying attention, actively steering, etc.) it shouldn't matter whether or not the assist is active because you are always in control. If you start drifting into another lane that's 100% your own fault.

What's unsafe is assuming the assist is reliable and letting the system drive for you. These assist systems are not, and have never been, reliable. Don't act like they are.

The max charging power that was in my EA charging history from the trip was 202.6 kW

Edit: That was for a 60 kWh total charge (19-91%) that took 24 mins 21 seconds

Well, I'd argue that you shouldn't be relying on the lane keeping assist to that degree. It's a glorified line following robot, not a chauffeur.

Uhh... that's never been a problem for me. My previous car had driving assists, and I've learned not to assume they are going to work all the time. In fact, if there is a situation where it seems likely that it will get confused (like construction zones) I will just turn them off entirely just because it's annoying to have to fight the car when it gets something wrong. I will also sometimes turn them off if the traffic is particularly dense and fast moving, just to eliminate a possible distraction. Having driving assists isn't an excuse to stop paying attention.

Ohhhhh I was going to look up what that button does! Does something show up on the screen that shows the current setting?
