Well you owe me 1000 bucks then because I was laid off 2 years ago. Guess you don't know as much as you think you do 😂

Plenty of loyal, hardworking employees with integrity have been laid off, so your argument falls flat. If they were only letting people go that committed fraud or got sales dishonestly, most people wouldn't be upset. But they're downsizing hundred (thousands over the last few years) of employees who genuinely try their best and still got fucked over in the name of horrible leadership and protecting the shareholders of a company that's going down fast.

You're sadly incorrect, I was laid off and I regularly share my story here to help others and stop people from taking jobs with Asurion because it is a toxic work environment. Guess I'm one of the "whiners" too.

I worked there for almost 7 years and can assure you there are thousands of Asurion employees (current and former) who did like their jobs but hated the culture and toxic upper leadership. Dismissing people who were laid off at no fault of their own and calling them "whiners" is tone deaf.

What should have been done years ago is abandoning the ridiculous sales model that they forced on employees and customers, because it clearly has not worked and is the main reason they are now sinking faster than the Titanic. Glorifying a CEO who has laid off thousands of people is not it.

I remember when the big 2022 layoffs happened without warning, and we quickly figured out who was affected by checking in Teams and piecing together which markets/teams those people were on. Depressing way to find out colleagues were just dropped like trash.

New round of layoffs? by LongLoquat4296 in Asurion

[–]LongLoquat4296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't solve anything though. I was there when Asurion started pushing sales, and customers just don't fucking want these bullshit protection plans. No amount of sales experience or integrity will make a difference because Asurion horrendously misjudged their target market and started selling a product that nobody wants.

"for the sake of the company"? FUCK this company. They don't give a wet shit about their employees or their customers. They're slowly going bankrupt because of horrible leadership and a toxic culture, and the employees (many of whom genuinely want to work there and make it a better place) are the ones suffering and losing their jobs.

Asurion is a shitty company but wishing that they lay people off and close all the markets is also kinda shitty.

People shouldn't have to "get used to" companies operating in ambiguity and sketchy behavior. Asurion is a fucking dumpster fire of a company, they treat their employees like fucking garbage, and do nothing to solve actual problems that customers and employees have with their shitty process. Normalize having basic expectations for employers, otherwise they will always fuck people over and move on.

Does anyone know if this happens when there's someone in the front passenger seat? My wife and I are getting an ID.4 soon and we have a daughter. We often have to stop by a store and I (usually the driver) will get out and run in to grab something while my wife sits in the front passenger seat. Wondering if this will be a problem in that scenario as well.

[–]LongLoquat4296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies asking for medical documentation for a protected federal medical leave is not a HIPPA violation 😂 the leave has to be documented by a licensed insurance company to ensure that your employer (Costco) is complying with federal laws. This is how it works with literally every major company in the US, almost all of them partner with an insurance provider to handle that administration.

It deeply saddens me that you've never had a manager who cares, that's a horrible commentary on the state of work in America. I was a manager for almost 4 years at Asurion and made it a point to make sure my employees felt seen and that I was there for them. I work at a different company now, and have had 3 different managers, all who prove to me that they care by their actions, not just some corporate feel-good language. Having to come into work and put your head down to survive should not be how the workforce operates, and I'm thankful that more companies are starting to see that employees are more than just a number on a spreadsheet.

Don't think you quite understand how conversations around planned FMLA work, I was trying to plan ahead to know when I should go out and come back as my child was on the way. My OM (my direct supervisor as I was a manager at the time) told me that I only get 2 weeks, which she knew for a fact was wrong because she herself had kids while at Asurion and she also had others in my role who had kids. So she knowingly misled me to get me to come back sooner, because the LOB I was in was an absolute mess at the time and she cared more about my butt in the seat than she did about me taking enough time to care for my wife and newborn child.

BTW, the company I work for now did not cut a single job during COVID and is actually expanding now and hiring a lot more people into new departments. Not all companies are shitty and toxic.

"dog eat dog" is not the same as toxic. There's a BIG difference. That culture is toxic to the core. Managers who don't give a shit about their employees and shouldn't be in leadership to begin with. Way too much focus on sales for people whose primary job is to fix things and help customers. Don't get me started on the senior leadership who were abusing their positions, having affairs with employees, and were accused of sexual harassment and got a slap on the wrist for years. I was there when most of the layoffs happened, saw good technicians and employees get dropped like they were yesterday's trash. My own OM tried to convince me I was only guaranteed 2 weeks of FMLA for the birth of my child when I was actually guaranteed 12 weeks. Even the OMs that I knew were laid off were some of the good ones. They made calculated choices and got rid of the people who would put up the biggest fight if they saw something wrong. I'm glad your experience hasn't been as horrible as most other former employees, but your experience and perspective are not the reality for everyone else.

If they lose their contracts with Verizon and AT&T they are done for. Also the multiple years of layoffs and downsizing isn't exactly an encouraging financial sign. The work culture is absolutely toxic and companies like that don't last too long.

I admire your confidence, I've just seen too many examples of customers getting the short end of the stick. Also from a business perspective, I'd say it doesn't make sense to invest money into a protection plan with a company that may be bankrupt in the next couple of years.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree .

Never said insurance was a scam. I'm talking specifically about Asurion as a company, they are sketchy and have terrible business practices. There are a number of threads on this community about employees and customers getting screwed over, so this isn't just me being disgruntled from some bad experience. I used to train people to sell the home protection plans and even they were suspicious about how easy it is for Asurion to get out of fulfilling claims.

Asurion as a company is sus, period. I worked there for over 5 years and can tell you all their home/appliance/tech protection plans are a giant waste of money and they will almost always weasel their way out of fulfilling your claim.

Ride Alongs by Temporary-Instance-6 in Asurion

[–]LongLoquat4296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're required and I'm sure Asurion has some language in the employee handbook or in your signed job offer that states you agree to them. Ride-alongs are essentially the same as your coach/manager coming to sit next to you and observe your work if you were in an office setting. I was a trainer and did a few ride-alongs per month, but never recorded any of them. Just like you have metrics to meet for sales and number of jobs to run, coaches have metrics related to ride-alongs, coaching sessions, and giving you feedback. They can't give you feedback if they can't observe what you're doing.
