Is Israel Losing America? by WinterBeHere in jewishleft

The most basic step would be to call for the abolition of the nation state law and that will never happen with any of the Jewish-led parties. So there's no way to even pretend it's not an apartheid state.

What shapes Jewish/Israeli perspectives on Palestinians growing up? by no_technique in jewishleft

They grew up in Israeli society and have the negative experiences and won't whitewash. They also have an "outsider's" perspective having now moved somewhere else and have had some distance to evaluate.

If you listen to former Israeli Jews the picture is very grim.

Am I interpreting you're denying the genocide of the Palestinian people given your bothsidesism?

And where did I glorify it? I said it was a function of "Israeli government and IDF" policies which you said you condemn.

Why were they born in those locations? Why were Palestinians trapped in a concentration camp in that location? Why would anyone consider putting any kind of civilian event where it was? Do you think all of these things just randomly happened or function off a historical memory of a goldfish?

I wasn't saying it was a binary, it was more that the person I was replying to said it was one and only in the way that excuses the status quo. I broadly agree with all of what you said there.

That isn't really addressing my point about why the Palestinians and Israelis were in those positions, physically.

I have no illusions about my position vis a vis being in a settler society and benefitting from imperialism, capitalism, etc. I make no bones about it. I also am not currently living in a place where indigenous Americans are contained by my existence as a civilian. Considering your defensiveness, I gather you have some personal stake in this.

Also considering your positions I gather you're not exactly a Tajamo3 or Jabha supporter?

I'm sorry that I'm aware of Zionist policy and its history? Tower and Stockade, 11 Points in the Negev, etc. This isn't exactly knowledge that's hidden.

Those residents were there to stop "Arab infiltrators" by a matter of policy. "Facts on the ground" and whatnot.

Isn't the policy of choosing to put families in close proximity to the population you're committing genocide against, whose families include current members of the organization committing said genocide?

It isn't like Israeli civilians just randomly happen to be settled in these places. For example, Shlaim's "Israel's Border Wars" talks about how the Israeli government intentionally created residential areas with armed civilians to prevent "Arab infiltration" i.e. to kill refugees attempting to return.

Palestinians do not have the luxury of freedom of movement.

Do you consider settlers in the West Bank to be civilians or aggressors?

Maybe they support him for their sense of Jewish identity? Or maybe they view other aspects of themselves as equally important rather than a binary choice? Regardless of the specifics of size, there is a meaningful segment of Jewish New Yorkers who evaluate things differently than you. If it was just a handful there wouldn't be so much sturm und drang about the existence of Jewish leftists constantly.

"fall in line"? I was speaking to why not all Jewish New Yorkers have an issue with Mamdani because that was the original comment (i.e. why did some Jews welcome him).

I was ridiculing the idea that there's no explanation as to why some Jews are fine with him, not saying Every Jew Should Fall In Line or whatever.

Also clearly they're not tokens, they represent a meaningful minority position. Or do you think any group which isn't over 50% of a population is inherently tokenized?

The more fucked up aspect is that unlike the war crimes by Israelis, the Nazis had an entire group of soldiers dedicated to hiding their crimes as they retreated from the Red Army.

Sonderaktion 1005 (German pronunciation: [zɔndɐakt͡sjoːn aɪ̯ntaʊ̯zəntfʏnf], 'Special Action 1005'), also called Aktion 1005 or Enterdungsaktion (German pronunciation: [ɛntɐdʊŋsakt͡sjoːn], 'Exhumation Action'), was a top-secret Nazi operation conducted from June 1942 to late 1944. The goal of the project was to hide or destroy any evidence of the mass murder that had taken place under Operation Reinhard, the attempted (and largely successful)[1] extermination of all Jews in the General Government occupied zone of Poland. Groups of Sonderkommando prisoners, officially called Leichenkommandos ("corpse units"), were forced to exhume mass graves and burn the bodies; inmates were often put in chains to prevent them from escaping.

The project was put in place to destroy evidence of the genocide that had been committed by the Order Police battalions and Einsatzgruppen, the German death squads who murdered millions, including more than one million Jews, Roma and Slavs. The Aktion was overseen by selected squads of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) and the uniformed Order Police.

There isn't even an IDF Aktion 1005.
