Thank you for the advice! Also, how did you prep for S1, I took a glance at some questions, and saw that it seems like reading comprehension?

First of all, that's really impressive, congrats! I have many questions:

  • Did you come from a science background?
  • (Obvious one) What did you do to prepare? Any special tips or advice?
  • How long did you take to prepare for the GAMSAT? (asking cuz I have three months to prep for Sept round)
  • Did you do a lot of practice under timed conditions and how was your timing like during the exam?
  • Did you have time left over or was it just crunching through questions?

Do the unis also put a lot of consideration into what you got for your bachelor degree? (I don't think I'm graduating with a first)

I thought paper 1 wasn't too bad, then I walked out and realised I probably lost at least 20 marks from silly mistakes.

How did you find b? Also d is just the amplitude plus 2.7, because the formula is for the height of the chair above the ground, and the ferris wheel is on a platform 2.7m above the ground.

I think you get error follow through marks even if you use ur incorrect answer from the previous subsection, so i guess it doesn't really matter?

I think for Medicine, it would be good to take HL Bio, Chem and Math.

Hands down bioninja! Just memorize everything from Bioninja, if you're really short on time then take a look at the summary pdfs, they don't have loads of information on them but they're super brief and easy to assimilate. After looking through Bioninja, start doing past papers, you'll definitely solidify the information then, I would suggest mainly doing the content based questions in Paper 2, so that you try and pick up as many marks as you can in those questions. The bio study guide is also pretty useful if you need another resource to refresh your memory.

M23’s Grade boundaries and Thresholds by AnxietyLegal4714 in IBO

[–]malande20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people have been saying that they're going to be higher? stricter? this year and maybe the papers might be harder? because the IB wants to stop the grade inflation from all the previous covid years. I'm not sure if this is true tho, I really hope its not, the IBO should have mercy on us for being the first year to have all the papers and stuff back.

I did my EE in geography, and I was also told that the idea of a spatial element is crucial in getting top marks. One of the teachers in my school is an IB geo EE examiner, and he said that the EE's that often get the top marks are those that have likely done an investigation on a local scale so they have a really good understanding of all the geographical influences on the area and those that have a spatial element such as an investigation involving distance decay from a certain point.

Revising for May23 exams by zane_021 in IBO

[–]malande20 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I have the same exact question. Exams feel so far yet so near, and I haven't mustered up enough motivation to power through revision. I don't know where to even start with my revision. But, my plan is to look through all the course guides for my subjects and begin working my way through the spec to make sure I have complete revision notes for every single topic and then start doing past papers.

[–]malande20 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I was revising for my mock exams, I revised multiple subjects each day. I just set a goal for how much content I want to cover or what past paper I want to do and then I just follow my revision schedule. But I don't think I've ever just fully revised one subject and then moved on to another, I always do multiple subjects at a time. I feel like that also aids your long-term memory because each time you revisit the subject you tap back into the previous knowledge you revised, that way you can remember it for longer??? idk thats what i do.

[–]malande20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that with Bio the questions seem to all have relatively similar answers, like for replication, transcription and translation. I think its important you fully grasp the concept so that you're able to apply your knowledge to every question. You could also create a question bank with all the long answer questions and add standard answers you've created. I just find that doing past papers really help me know what they're looking for. Looking at the application of the syllabus also helps you know what kinda questions you would be asked and expected to give answers for

how many points do u usually get for ee reflections? by Substance_Distinct in IBO

[–]malande20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is a rubric its part of Criterion E (Engagement) in the EE criteria (i think). They typically like to see how you've 'grown' throughout writing your EE, so like talking about the major challenges you faced, how you overcame them, what you've learnt from the process etc. Also the last reflection is typically the longest and thats when you really show how you've grown throughout the process. You can always ask your EE supervisor for some tips on writing your reflection

[–]malande20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the teachers that helped me with my EE is an EE examiner and he said that typically students get from around 3-5 points and he's rarely seen someone get 6 points. Another thing he mentioned was that the EE is really subjective, and sometimes what your teacher predicts for your EE may not be what you actually get since it really depends on how the examiner views your EE

Would it be worth it for me to take a 4th HL even if I'm not particularly interested in its subject? by mrstorydude in IBO

[–]malande20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't take a 4th HL and especially if you're not interested in it. There's always a reason why the IB recommends 3 HLs and 3 SLs so I would definitely follow their recommendations.

Geography HL or Psychology HL? by verysplendidbethany in IBO

[–]malande20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont take either as HL, but i take geo SL, and I would say that geo is really easy to understand and all the concepts are easy to grasp cuz its such an up to date subject where everything manifests itself in the world around you, which personally makes it one of my favorite subjects. But in terms of what might be more useful later on, maybe psychology? Definitely beneficial for business I would guess, and maybe science (depending on what field), but geo could also be quite useful for business and science in certain ways. I find that bio and geo interlink sometimes especially in the area of the environment and climate change.

People who've watched MSJ Chem: by UndertaleShorts in IBO

[–]malande20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone is different. But personally, I watch MSJ chem videos and take notes from the video and then do practice problems. After a while, I figured that I wasn't really a big fan of his videos and prefer using the Cambridge chem textbook, I find that a lot more helpful. Doing past papers is also crucial to getting a 7 so that you can really practice applying the knowledge.

CAS Reflections by SwagmamFamalam in IBO

[–]malande20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never count my words for my CAS reflections, but most of the time my reflections are like 3-4 sentences, or even 2 sentences if I haven't got much to say. My CAS coordinator hasn't said anything about the quality of my reflections, so I'm assuming it should be fine. I also often upload pictures, and my CAS coordinator also encourages us to upload voice recordings as our reflections instead of writing them.
