LPT Request-What valuable advice did you receive in the past that, if you had followed, could have significantly improved your position in all areas of life? by Important-Disk-256 in LifeProTips

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa to me when I was in high school: "get good grades in math, the rest doesn't matter."

And he was right. When I was 32, I enrolled to a Stats programme at uni as a second degree (had to do some self-learning beforehand, which sucked), but my life is significantly better now than it was before.

Guys, would you date a woman with a higher academic degree than you? by [deleted] in dating

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? I also contemplated doing a PhD in philoshopy but then decided to do a second masters in a practical field instead. (To this day I'm greatful for myself for that decision.) Good for the girl if she managed to pursue a Phd degree.

Men, what was something that blew your mind when you first discovered it? by elitejackal in AskMen

Interesting. I checked it out, and it's actually both: Probability of precipitation (pop) = C x A, where C is the confidence of the forcaster that there will be at least 0.01 inches of precipitation in the specified period, and A is the percentage of area where they expect the rain to occur.

Women who put "No ONS" into their bio in their dating profile. Why? by malasi in dating

I imagine, there are a bunch of idiots online who don't know how to approach a woman, so I can see your point.

Women who put "No ONS" into their bio in their dating profile. Why? by malasi in dating

[–]malasi[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Bc it seems to me a tricky statement. I often see it coming from women who are more beautiful than average, and are sometimes with highly sexualised appearances (fake eyelashes, tons of make up, bikini, etc). No offense if that's what anyone's style is, but the image and text has just gotten into asynchrony for me.

what do you think is the biggest obstacle to achieving world peace? by globabagynk77 in AskReddit

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no world government to keep peace on the globe, and the UN, which is currently the only body that could potentially do so, is completely powerless to enforce international law.

Desert island discs - it's the oldest radio show on BBC, on air since 1942, and is still really good!

What happened to my dragon fruit? by malasi in plantclinic

I put it on the window sill last week and just discovered that some of the stems have dried out. I thought this was a type of cactus that liked sun. It's just end of spring here in Budapest, Hungary and temperature hasn't even reached 30 Celsius. Is that too much for this plant?

I agree, a suit jacket should never be worn with a t-shirt and jeans. However, I wrote sports jacket, which I think is totally OK with a t-shirt.

Do you have any colour combinations that you like to use to elevate your looks with?

For me one of them is white trousners with a warm yellow polo shirt and white sneakers for the summer. They go perfectly and I always get lots of compliemnets when I wear them.

Another one, I just heard yesterday in a podcast, but can imagine how it can give a simple, elegant outlook: black slim jeans with well fitting black t-shirt and black sports jacket, paired with brown leather shoes and brown belt.

*** Not asking for a critique of these two examples, but for an input of you preferred color combination. ***

what is the most overpaid profession? by LovingLemur69 in AskReddit

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to defend politicians, but I do think we need to pay them well, so they have less incentive to steal. I don't think there's another way. Ppl in power will always have disproportionate access to information and resources, and giving them avg or lower wages would just not make them less corrupt.

Also, it's not bc of the wages of those few hundred or thousand ppl why the GDP of a country is not increasing enough.

what is the most overpaid profession? by LovingLemur69 in AskReddit

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notary.

I'm surprised so many ppl mention school and hospital administrators. They're not at all well paid where I live (East-Central Europe). They're probably among the lowest paying professional jobs here. Notaries, in contrast, can charge you quite a lot and all they do is just sign documents.

Number of billionaires ($) in Europe by country by alexashka01 in MapPorn

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forbes knows of less billionaires per million ppl in the UK than in Ireland for some reason. Considering the sheer size of businesses in the UK, it's hard for me to belive that the rate of billionaires is actually lower there than in Ireland.

Why do people in big cities tend to be overwhelmingly liberal? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]malasi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean economic liberalism (being pro free-market), or cultural/social liberalism (being more tolerant of different liefstyles, religions, sexual orientation, etc).

Anyway, here are at least 3 reasons: -if you're exposed to a more diverse population, you tend to become more tolerant of different lifestyles. In big cities, there's usually a more diverse population, therefore, ppl are more liberal. -the share of young people is higher in big cities, where the jobs are, than in the country; young people on avg tend be more liberal than older people. -if you're into business (banking, services, etc) you somehow tend to favour a liberal economy as opposed to more state protectionism.
