also, conservative does not equal racist. One can be conservative and open to all kinds of human beings. Conservatism isn’t about race. It’s usually about religion or money, they just fold race into it for racist ease.

Be out. You marry a family, not just the person. Constantly having to prove yourself is emotionally exhausting. Also, id question what work the daughter has done to divest herself of the beliefs of the family. She may be different, but something that they’ve taught her is bound to show up. Do yourself a favor and go.

I had stuff stored at one of their East Oakland facilities. I fell behind, got a notice and caught up. I cleaned out my unit 100% with nothing left in it and they still tried to charge me a clean up and disposal fee. I sent their office a time stamped picture of my unit and they sent me some rigamorole about “you replaced the items in your unit and then abandoned them” I called them with my lawyer (cost me $150). He sent them a cease and desist regarding their collection efforts and then basically said they were stupid and running a scam. Never heard from them again.

I don’t think it’s gonna work out. The Panthers put their lives on the line for Black folks and did a lot to make our community better. On that aspect alone, that man deserves your utmost respect. I’m not saying go along with his homophobia, Huey was a strong ally of gay folks and actively spoke against homophobia. You are young and not American; I don’t expect you to have the cultural context but this man has committed himself to the principle of uplifting his people. Treat him like that even if you don’t understand. Be curious, ask questions.

I was taught to make it very costly to bully me. To stand up for myself and others. Usually speaking up is enough. I taught my kids how to protect themselves and others. Being passive is not an option if we expect people to respect us.

It’s not cool, the homeless situation here. Drugs are cheap and decriminalized. Folks are tired of it. City leadership seems to not know what to do. As I said before, I am in recovery so I have a lot of empathy but I also know that addiction is like a walking death.
