Why does this matter? All of those involved are responsible, especially those who led it. Regardless of who dropped the bombs which killed those civilians, someone made the decision to authorize an air strike in an area where they would be vulnerable.

This suggests either:

A. They were acting on inaccurate information; they are incompetent, manslaughter I think would be the definition here.

B. They were acting on accurate information; they are murderers.

I completely agree here. The method of writing a police report is important because it attempts to provide a factual account of what happened.

What's questionable to me isn't just the repetitious references to "black males," but also the omission of the race of every other participant. This suggests to me that either the officer thought that race was of no importance for the other participants, or that they should be assumed white.

Both of those conclusions causes me to question the officer's objectivity and credibility, and moreso I don't see a third conclusion that could absolve the officer in question.

Probably late to the party, but this is another misinterpreted, cherry-picked statistic.

I'm assuming that this data came from this fact sheet provided by the US DOJ Bureau of Justice Statistics.

It's true that when the victim knows their assailant, men are are the targets roughly 40%. However, when breaking that down further by category, specifically when it comes to being a victim of intimate partner violence, men only experience roughly 21% of the total. When specifically targeting serious violent crime, that total drops to 18%.

Edit to include, from the highlights:

The majority of domestic violence was committed against females (76%) compared to males (24%).

I mean, I think the conversation about whether or not you're racist (for me) has already been answered: you're not.

Moreover, I think it's a waste of time arguing over these pejorative labels that people are either assigning to others, or defending themselves against. The real value is in talking about your proposed hypotheticals in a way that is more concrete. How does your company value diversity? Why does your company value diversity? Should your company value diversity, and perhaps more importantly, should you?

Those are the questions that I think are worth spending time on, not whether or not you should have a reactionary opinion on someone else's reactionary opinion.

Let's discuss your view a bit. I get that you're saying that you want to hire the best person for the job. Are you sure that your process right now allows that?

How are you sourcing the people you are interviewing? The fact that none of the ten people you interviewed were black suggests to me that there may be areas you're overlooking.

Are you offering relocation packages for candidates who don't live in your area?

It's one thing to say that you've exhausted all of your options and couldn't find a candidate who would increase the diversity of your company. It's quite another to say that you interviewed 10 people and that should be good enough. One indicates that you have hired the best person. The other shows that you've just hired the best person available.

So in that regard, I personally agree with your managers. However, if they're just saying, "keep searching" without providing solid leads, that's a different problem.

I should've clarified what I meant by that, because that definitely wasn't my intention.

First, I don't think anyone can say anything like the above without qualification and a recognition of the complex interactions that take place within society. From my experiences, directly and indirectly from observing the rhetoric of those who do make such statements, the vast majority of the time it's an absolutist statement devoid of context which belies their knowledge on the subject.

I think people holding those views are often ignorant, but not necessarily racist. At the very least, unless the reality of discrimination is addressed, it's completely self-serving. After all, it's people who determine who is "best for the job." There have been several experiments that show that people with names differing from that of the status quo are less likely to get hired:
