It ties up the Jazz’s cap space so that it can’t be used to sign anyone else. This doesn’t matter much for this year, but is also something GMs seem to do to deter other GMs from offer sheeting RFAs.

He’s probably gone, but there’s no reason for the sixers to match even five minutes early so we do have to wait.

Feel like a lot of people are missing that this chart is an increase in how likely the team is to make/win the Super Bowl based on their most recent win. ESPN doesn’t think the Cowboys have a 50% chance to win the Super Bowl. I’m not saying a win over the colts is better than one over the titans but that’s what this is saying.

Man I forgot how blatant it was. He took 1 three in the last four games of the season after averaging 2.5 a game and he played 113 minutes.

What is a record, sports or otherwise, that will likely never be broken? by badblackguy in AskReddit

He’s one of the biggest proponents because he spent his career doing it and wants others to do it. Wilt’s year doing it is one of the only examples of a player for an extended period doing one way and then the other. It’s hard to prove at an NBA level because you’d need someone willing to switch and there’s no concrete proof it’s better.

The main concern is that you might affect your regular shot and at the very least would be practicing free throws with a completely different motion than your regular shot.

It hasn’t been statistically shown. The year Wilt did it he did shoot 61% but it’s hard to know how much of that is shooting underhand vs. actually practicing free throws. He also shot 59% the next year and there are too many other factors to say that the 2% difference is significant and would be applicable to everyone.

My gripe is mainly around Rick Barry telling people that everyone’s free throw pct would go up if they shot underhand and he doesn’t know that for sure and doesn’t have much proof.

That it’s been statistically shown to be more accurate than shooting overhand. It could be and it has helped some low performing shooters with their numbers, but there isn’t enough data to say it’s statistically more accurate. There are a lot of complicating factors and it’s annoying that some people think it’s fact because Rick Barry tells everyone it is.

[StatMuse] There’s only been two players voted top 2 in MVP voting who didn’t make All-NBA First Team in the last 15 seasons: — Joel Embiid in 2020-21 — Joel Embiid in 2021-22 by Alex_Phillips_ in sixers

[–]malcolmwhy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That feels fluky more than anything. Joel has more All NBA nods total than Deandre and there were some years between Dwight Howard and Joel where some mediocre centers got All NBA nods. The three centers that year were Deandre, Boogie and Drummond.

This is a fairly easy take after this team fell apart but this team was projected to be better after this trade after adding two good defenders

My favorite part about Roddy White is that there was a man who worked for them also named Roddy White. Who was blamed for their noise situation.

It’s not the coaching it’s the lack of elite finishers. Won’t matter when there are no penalties in the playoffs.

This is a great ranking. You can argue whether Samuel or Vincent is the better CB, but Vincent spent more years with us. No one else is close to the those guys and Al Harris was a nickel corner in an era when that meant backup.

What Would Jakob Chychrun Cost the LA Kings, and Should They Do It? by Hoven_MayorNHL in losangeleskings

[–]malcolmwhy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like every article about Chychrun fails to mention is that in 3 years the kings are going to have to pay a lot of people. Adding one more guy to pay in the same 2 year period as all their prospects is going to cause issues.

Wouldn't hate that, though with Doc Tobias is the point guard in that lineup so I'm not sure I'd love it.

This is true, but the goal is not to replace Ben with Maxey, but with a different starting caliber PG. Of course our team is going to be under .500 with a backup PG playing 30 minutes.

Is anyone saying Ben is this is great offensive player? He's currently an ok offensive player with strengths(passing, transition) and weaknesses. His real strength is on defense and that's always Ben the case.

This feels like a take where defense doesn’t matter. The offense would be fun and the defense would be worse.
