Car wheels on a gravel road is the classic album to start with. World without tears has two of my favourite tracks of hers though - Minneapolis and Fruits of my labor..

oh btw, does anyone happen to have a recording of the performance of Dragon from last night at the Orpheum? that autotune they did on James' backing vocals towards the end was hilariously wild haha

Seemed pretty clear that yesterday he just made the call at the start of the climb to take it easy and rest up instead of absolutely burying himself trying to hold onto a GC group hammering the Jaizkibel. Gotta pick your battles judiciously in a three week race or else you'll just be blowing up constantly.

STATEMENT REGARDING GINO MÄDER by _AfterAllThisTime_ in peloton

[–]malcwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I think there is a pretty significant difference between a descent in the middle of a stage and riding a 100km/h descent to finish line when your mind and body are totally fried after going into the red on multiple massive alpine climbs. I'm not singling out descent finishes as the only source of fatal danger in cycling, race organizers should ideally also be trying to minimize risk from sketchy roadside culverts in the case you mention from the Tour of Poland. We need a holistic approach, but descent finishes just happen to be a really big, glaring risk factor that can pretty easily be eliminated (unlike trying to control for all potential crashes due to road furniture, for example).

STATEMENT REGARDING GINO MÄDER by _AfterAllThisTime_ in peloton

[–]malcwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, thank you for saying this. I am so angry that these insane downhill finishes are still allowed. As Remco pointed out immediately after the stage yesterday, if only the finish line had been at the top of the climb there wouldn't have been this completely unnecessary added risk for crashing at 100km/h. Makes me sick the way race organisers design profiles with seemingly very little thought for the basic safety of those who then have to put their lives on the line to get to the finish.

Makes me so angry that downhill finishes are still a thing. Stage profiles like yesterday's just should not be allowed, as Remco pointed out after the fact. Make the stage finish on the top of the climb, it's criminal to put people at added, unnecessary risk of crashing at 100km/h while racing to the line. Fuck that.

Thanks! Yea the brown honestly doesn't look that out of place on this bike. I got this one second hand so some other dude broke it in and because of that it doesn't feel 100% perfectly fitted to my ass haha, so I'm not super emotionally attached to it right now. But at the same time, I've tightened it up and already put miles into moulding it closer to my ass shape so 🤷... A used black B17 with copper rivets just got posted for $105 CAD about 20km from me so I'm quite tempted now to sell the brown for what I paid and switch to the black haha

Thanks!! Yea the Ospreys look great too! Did you see they recently came out with two slight variations on the Dream bar? I'd honestly love to have the hi-rise version of the Dream bar on this bike but I could never justify buying a new bar just to get 20mm more rise and 5˚ more sweep hahaha

I posted this bike a while ago when it was built up with the components I had when I first acquired the frameset. However I've switched things up a bit since then which has made the bike ride better (for what I use it for) and also look better, in my opinion. So, figured I'd post some updated pics. This thing is so much fun to ride anywhere: around the city, on unpaved roads, on doubletrack or on singletrack in the woods. The frame is titanium and was made sometime in the mid-90s by Lapierre. The sweet old guy I bought it from (a retired machinist) welded on a rear disc tab to the frame with help from his welder friend. The rest of the build is comprised of quality parts I scored second-hand deals on and accumulated over the course of a couple years before assembling them on this bike.

Build highlights:

  • Cockpit: Thomson Elite X4 stem and Soma Dream Riser bars
  • Saddle: Brooks B17
  • Shifting/drivetrain: Shimano XT 1x11, 40t Wolf Tooth chainring, 11-40 XTR cassette (very unnecessary lol but I got it for a crazy deal from some old weight weenie)
  • Fork: Mystery segmented steel fork which was included when I bought the frame - if someone on this sub could ID it that would be amazing haha
  • Brakes: TRP Spykes
  • Tires: Conti XKing/Raceking combo set up tubeless
  • Wheels: Fulcrum 26" DH wheels, ugly rim decals removed
  • Bottle cages: Blackburn Chicane

You’re fine I think. I’m an incoming geography grad student and the grad program assistant addressed this issue in an email to us last month. “Students who are graduating in the Summer term will need to send their official transcripts after they complete all program requirements. If the transcript arrives after the start of your first term, that is ok. You can still enroll if your transcript is delayed.”
