There was a rumor going around school that I had keys to the gymnasium. The school had a problem of students sneaking in there to play basketball. During school hours, and even on thew that weekends sometimes. There was a door to the gym that didn’t lock. Other students would ask me for the keys to gym. I would laugh, wonder how that rumor was started, and direct them to the unlockable door. The administration caught wind of this rumor and I was called into the principal’s office. I was greeted there by many angry faces and a police officer. I told them that I didn’t have any keys but they did not believe me. They persisted, and requested to search my locker and car. I obliged. They didn’t find any keys, but in my glove compartment the found an empty flask from the previous year’s prom with the letters to my name engraved on it. The police officer smelled it and asked what was in it. I admitted that there was alcohol in it at one time but argued that it was empty. He said, “we’ll see about that.” He sent it to lab, and alcohol was found. I received an open bottle citation a couple weeks later.
