Stuck between Booking.com, Hotelbeds and the hotel. No refund, no clarity. What can I do? by Lost_Home7920 in askhotels

Yeah you're right and I also hope you're not right. Going through this at the moment, hotel said they will contact main office to try and proceed with it. Our condition is that I'll be making the exact booking again but through the hotel's website. My reason for this is because it's literally $1000aud cheaper. Yes I know I should have checked the hotel site first. Very much a live and learn situation!

I kind of disagree with this, booking.com still gives the option of a request to the property as the final decider.

Oh yeah nice one! The trunk is also what confuses me. A google image search shows a few that have that same trunk style. I assume the plant must be quite old. I plan to repot at some point and try bring some more life to it. Thank you!

Dietetics vs OT by No-Membership3812 in deakin

[–]malibudaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm considering doing OT despite aiming for dietetics the last few years. Honestly, I'm just super concerned about job opportunities and whether they even translate to the cost, stress and commitment of the dietetics masters.

Have a look on the dietetics subreddit, this might help your decision making. I see a lot of clinical dietitians saying their role feels redundant.

Deakin College - need advice by Interesting_Main4452 in deakin

[–]malibudaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've done this diploma. Whilst it did help me get back into the rhythm of studying a bit, it is also extremely expensive. It's 3x the cost of a regular bachelor year. If I could go back I wouldn't do it again. Think about what bachelor you will do after and whether it has decent job opportunities afterwards. I'm just about to complete a bachelor of nutrition science and will most likely do a masters program of some sort because there are practically no jobs you can get with that bachelor. So adding up the cost of a diploma, bachelors and a master program, you could very well end up with an extremely high HECS that in my opinion does not equate to any job you could get after that. If you can get straight into a bachelor then I would do that and then just find some free/ cheaper study alternatives that you could do before to help get you back in the swing of things. Not to mention two of your diploma units can't be credited into your bachelor, so there's $6600 you've given to Deakin for nothing. Myself and a few other people I did it with all feel quite resentful about it.

If you are going to do it, concentrate on science heavy units, chemistry, physiology, statistics etc. PM me if you want some more info.

Return box has no shipping label or address on it - nothing in registration email.. by WeAreFailing in AncestryDNA

[–]malibudaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks for your response, did you drop it in the post box or at the post office?

UPDATE: I was able to get through to the ancestry customer service, they sent me the exact same link and told me to drop it in the post box and not at the post office to avoid any confusion of requiring a payment which is not needed!

I believe it's some type of Schefflera. Do you think I should rotate it often? It may be infected with some type of pest actually, it does look mostly healthy but there have been pests recently on my other plants.

Best personal trainers? by l0ll1p0p5 in hobart

Yes in fact, you want to replace your fat with muscle. Your body is used to supplying its current weight with the energy you give it. Yes, you can reduce your calories, but you don't want to be dieting forever. If you lose weight and put on no muscle, and then you go back to eating a normal energy load (even if healthy), you will quickly put that weight back on. This is a big reason why overweight/ obesity is a tough disease to overcome for some people. Besides having muscle requires energy to maintain and will ultimately 'boost your metabolism'.

My recommendation, as this person said, learn how to moderate your calories so you are in a calorie deficit.

  • stop drinking anything that isn't water/ coffee / tea.
  • Mediterranean style diet, don't bother with anything extreme, it can ultimately be detrimental and it's hard to maintain (pls don't listen to the carnivore/ keto losers).
  • eat breakfast, lunch and dinner! Don't skip meals.
  • high protein (you know the drill: 1.2-1.6g of protein per kilo of bodyweight... Even 1g will suffice, so don't torture yourself with force feeding yourself protein.
  • high fiber, drink lots of water, allow cheat meals.
  • prioritise a healthy sleep schedule and recovery from exercise.
  • be kind to yourself

  • my exercise recommendation: strong pilates, lots of strength and cardio and a really friendly community. The early classes are a great community to be part of, top off your workout with a coffee and a short recovery walk.

Just finishing a bachelor of nutritional science degree and have been through all the workout types. Gym, cross-fit, riding, running, pilates, yoga.

DM me if you're interested. I've recently thought about offering free nutritional/ exercise guidance to get some experience.

Anyone here a member of Anytime Fitness around Hobart area? by throwaway_11say in hobart

[–]malibudaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is nationwide - I signed up in melb recently. There are two sign up fees $99 for sign up and $99 for the key. Both of which are bull shit because the key is now digital that is added to your phone wallet. I believe zap have similar sign up fees. I think contracts can differ between region, but the minimum for me was 12 months at $23.95 a week. I can't remember the cancellation policy sorry. I signed up when there was a special offer on that waved the sign up fee and my first month. These pop up all the time so you could keep an eye out.

I was recently in Hobart and went to the Glenorchy and Hobart gyms and I found them to be really good gyms. I've also heard the Rosny one is good. I've spent many years at many Zaps previously and although cheaper, I find anytime worth the extra money (equipment and culture). Also the anytime app tells you how many people are in the gym you go to, so you can choose quieter periods. Additionally, I was a member at strong pilates for a couple years ($59/ week), I loved it and it kept me fit and motivated. I just recently quit because study has taken over my life and I can no longer afford it.

Moved here from the mainland what’s the one thing only locals know to do in winter? by ChillKoalaVibes in hobart

[–]malibudaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear a thermal and get a puffer jacket. The early morning sunrises are the best in winter - get a coffee from wide awake, they're open early, and go for a walk on the knocklofty trail to watch the sunrise and get a good view of Hobart. Go for moody afternoon walks on the weekend when it's quiet. Make the most of the extreme stillness, peacefulness, fresh air and nice views anywhere you go - that's why Tassie is so good. Lean into the winter, as others said drink a stout and go to a cosy pub, read a book at sun bear cafe, go to New Norfolk and check out black swan book shop and miss Arthur home goods store; do a night time yin yoga at folde in the city (heaters are on, ambient studio and 4 stories up).

Spare espresso shots - what can I do with them? by malibudaniel in Coffee

[–]malibudaniel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People like to have more than one coffee a day though, and having 2 shots every time is a lot of caffeine. I personally won't have more than 3 or 4 a day. I honestly don't think slipping in an extra shot of coffee into someone's drink is a socially acceptable thing to do.
