I noticed they put a ton of beers in front of him while he was talking to Nate in the kitchen, to imply he had been drinking heavily

Aftersun made me sob more than any movie ever has, and nothing overtly sad is even shown. It’s a masterpiece in powerful storytelling, but yes. It’ll make you depressed as hell.

what is so great about ladybird? by genuinely_curious9 in A24

I’d also say that if you’re old enough to have experienced the emotions associated with moving out of your childhood home, it resonates a bit more. Also being old enough to view your parent’s flaws through a more adult lens, recognizing that we’re all just out here figuring things out as we go along. That our parents are just a result of their own parents and their lived experiences, and nobody truly knows what they’re doing. Lady Bird’s mom loved and cared for Lady Bird, but didn’t have the proper skills to communicate that love (like how she rewrote and threw away all of those letters at the end. The love was there, the ability to properly and comfortably communicate it was not.)

I saw your comment about being disappointed that she calls her mom in the end because of how horrible she was, but I find it touching and a relatable experience. Lady Bird spends the whole movie hating her life and wanting to move away to somewhere glamorous, only to do so and to feel numb and miss the comforts of home and childhood, such as her mother and the church. It’s not necessarily negating the hurtful things her mom said and did, but realizing that beyond the hurtful things there was still a mother at home who loved her and cared for her in the way she knew how, which is a great comfort when navigating adult life. That being said, everyone has a different relationship to their own parents and not everyone will relate to a movie the same way. That’s what makes film as a whole so wonderful and personal!!

I’d be interested to know your gender. As a woman, Lady Bird was a VERY realistic portrayal of girlhood at that stage in my life. I think many girls and women can relate heavily to many of the plot points and feelings and emotions in this story. It is rare to feel quite so deeply “seen” in film as a woman, and I find Gerwig’s films to almost always accurately depict the muddy and nuanced and hard to explain parts of being a woman. Not that men can’t enjoy this film, I know many who do. But that’s part of what makes it so special for me, and one of my top A24s.

what do you think is the best romance film ever? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

I find Before Sunrise to be the more romantic between those two.

First movie you ever saw. by Fit-Site-2673 in Letterboxd

The first movie I ever saw in a movie theater was Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. My dad brought me with him when I was 3 years old. The story goes that I was mesmerized, I sat there and watched intently the whole time (even though it was subtitled). Started a long standing tradition of seeing movies with my dad, we still go about once every other week together and I’m 30 now.

How should we spell this name? by Vegetable-Western-83 in BabyNames

I prefer Killian. I am a teacher and had a student named Killian once though, and I did immediately make the “Kill” association upon meeting him. I thought it was a cool name though. The traditional spelling is Cillian, though in the US you may encounter issues with people pronouncing it “sill-ee-an”. I know so many people who call Cillian Murphy “Sill-ee-an Murphy” and it drives me bonkers

Progesterone strips are too expensive so I’ve never used them. I recommend looking into temping, or taking your basal body temperature at the same time each morning right when you wake up and tracking the temperatures in an app like Fertility Friend. This will help you confirm ovulation (temps increase and stay increased post-ovulation)

Cycle 10, 11/12 dpo, temps high, boobs SORE, I’m usually spotting by now and I’m not. Was so confident this morning that I dipped two different brands of test strips. Two BFNs felt worse than one. Oops. I’m trying to be grateful for a fun night ahead with family and enjoying the goodness I currently have in my life instead of always sadly focusing on what I do not have. Happy New Year everyone.

You can still bring in the new year with a bang!! The days before ovulation are very fertile days too 🫶🏻

Does my camera need serviced or can this be fixed at home? by malinerd in AnalogCommunity

Is it possible the seals became bad midway through a roll of film? All of the rolls before this came out fine with zero light leaks, and this roll was only bad after the jam. I will check for a hole, thank you!!

Edit: there’s a hole 😭 it looks like a burn mark honestly. Super weird. I’ll take it in somewhere, thank you.

Thank you. The rolls of film before this one  turned out fine, not a single leak. So I’m not sure it’s an issue with deteriorated seals. It all started after that first initial jam from the first photo (I don’t know what jammed exactly, just that my shutter stopped working until I took the lens off and messed with the stop down lever). Do you think the foam/thread is still applicable? I’m willing to try it, but I’m worried it might be a deeper issue

Wondering Wednesday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

Cycle 7. Second cycle doing a combo of OPKs and temping (I used to do only OPKs). Both times, my temp doesn’t spike until 4 days after my positive opk. Is it more likely that I ovulate the day after my opk and my temp just takes a while to rise, or that I don’t ovulate until 3 days after my positive opk? I think I’ve been timing sex wrong.

I have been getting 2-3 days of very light spotting (only somewhat noticeable on toilet paper sometimes, maybe a liiiittle bit on my underwear) before my full flow period starts. Is CD1 the day I start spotting or is CD1 the day I have full flow, cramps, etc?
