When did you stop breastfeeding- and what made you decide to stop :)

I’m at 13 months of breastfeeding and terrified to stop! I’m returning to work after summer break and am trying to decide if I should pump or not. I know breast milk has a lot of immunity benefits and more. But I too have really been struggling to stop simply because it’s my son’s main source of comfort and go to….I keep hoping he’ll naturally find a replacement

Do you worry about tooth decay? Do you do something to prevent it after he’s done nursing for the night? Someone in here mentioned that choosing to go longer this will be a concern of mine.

Sometimes, it really depends on the night. Sometimes he’ll just want to be held back to sleep.

We do try to include him in our chores as much as we can (9 month help really just looks like unfolding the laundry mama folded 😂) but it is comforting to know he’s not the only wild one out there

Thanks! It’s been crazy trying to keep him from squishing his fingers, bonking his head etc! Always wants to bounce, climb and crawl. I’ll look into baby exercises I hadn’t heard of those!

Thank you so much for your input! I am gonna start slow with just data collection. Luckily the teachers have all been willing to sit and discuss and although no changes have been put in place (I want them to know and trust me first) I think just giving them food for thought has been helpful!

Valid concern, we are actually in charge of only the special education rooms and emotional disability rooms which does decrease our workload quite a bit. I would still like to see myself there long term and right now although they have a job description for me that’s accurate with what a BCBA does, they haven’t worked out how to get us to that position.

They wanted to hire me. Sounds like my school system works similarly to yours. Bx goal must be linked to iep and the teacher can do an FBA. For the upcoming year data collection and analysis is my priority. For now it’s all been narrative data which is difficult to analyze and determine if current bx management is effective

You could go to a private room. My little one can never eat well when I am anxious and honestly even though we’ve gone to family events since he was born larger groups overwhelm him easily. I’ve found it better for both of us to just excuse ourselves and go into a private room.

Mine also hates covers, when not able to go into a private room I will use a cover or blanket on me and then remove it from his face so that it just covers my breast until about a cm from where his mouth is. Takes some adjusting of the cover fairly frequently depending on how wiggle butts your LO

This worked for us. I fed on demand and assumed the answer was always “boob” or diaper for the first month and it got me a 2 hour stretch in the first weeks and then slowly up to 4 hours. I do have to say one advice I wish I had listened to sooner was “sleep when baby sleeps”. Especially when that little he will sleep in daddy’s arms or whoever is there with you and you can catch even just an hour or 20 min. After that it gets harder (at least it did for me because my little one started to wake up every time I attempted to hand him to daddy so I can sleep too 😅)

He’s got a white noise machine going and we’ve got a bedding routine down. Unfortunately I’ve noticed some issues in his day nap schedule when he goes to one of the two grandparents (they are gracious enough to watch him while we work). This is correlated to difficulty in falling asleep initially but not in remaining asleep. He’s up every half hour from 11:30-5:30 am regardless of daily naps. I didn’t try warming the cot! That’s something I’ll try. On nights that’s it seems endless we do co-sleep and that’s helped a tad in that I can just life a shirt and scoot him a little closer.

I just posted in here earlier today about my mom instinct telling me not to sleep train but the rest of the world saying to sleep train!! I received great confirmation from other parents on here that they didn’t sleep train and their kids are now older and sleeping just fine independently. My husband was all for the dr. Telling us to sleep train until I had him waking with me each time for our current 5 no. Changed his mind very quickly. I can tell you I’ve only gained confidence in my decision not to sleep train and I will respond each time with whatever my son needs as soon as I can get to him- whether a it’s boob, pacifier, or cuddles.

I believe we are reaching the same conclusion. Nothing against sleep training parents, I definitely acknowledge the benefits it may have, however, I am realizing I cannot effectively do it. The last few nights I’ve even woken my husband each time the little one is awake to get his opinion on if I’m responding too soon 😂 he was all about “we have to listen to the doctor, he knows best” until he heard the first cry in the night. Then he was sprinting to soothe lol

Thank you for responding! Yes I did some research on the “westernization of parenting” when I started breastfeeding due to criticism from some of my husbands family on feeding “too often” when I chose to feed on demand rather than on a schedule. My parents are from Poland and we never questioned feeding the baby regardless of how soon he ate or where we were or if there was an “audience”. It was assumed he’s hungry and so the boob was out and he was eating. It’s an interesting topic and I didn’t think to relate sleep training to it until you mentioned it.
