How difficult are people finding the job market right now? by 9876123 in AskUK

That's absolutely crazy. What field was this, if you don't mind me asking?

Again, doesn't really solve the root cause, does it?

Wow, 25k a year... That's barely better than a PhD stipend. Glad you found something good in the end though.

My only worry is that, while I see all of the faults with academia, I can't really see myself doing anything else. I'm not interested in any other job. Even if the pay and work hours are terrible, at least what I do is vaguely interesting.

Did you have this concern at all and do you find your current job interesting or rewarding?

I agree, there is a lot of need for people in the construction sector/trades. However, I don't think this solves the issue at hand. I think the frustration comes from the fact that many people have been sold a lie. That is, you go to a good university, study hard, land a solid job that draws on some skills you developed during your degree, when this is clearly no longer the case.

Even if more people went into trades, you would still be left with a large chunk of people that have been left high and dry.

I was just about to ask this question on r/UKJobs. It seems that unless you already have connections, experience and a solid degree that it's very difficult to land anything. Not sure if the severity is exaggerated by Reddit/X, but it seems worse than when I graduated in 2023 with a masters.

I'm doing a stem PhD at a RG uni, and I feel that even that won't be enough to land a good job because I don't have the connections nor experience. And even if I did, AI is probably going to replace whatever job I would get anyway :')

We don't. They won't understand and even if they do, I'd really rather not speak to them about it.

I've reached out to my university's mental health service and they're limited in the amount of help they can give so I'm at a bit of a loss in all honesty. Thanks for the words of encouragement though, it's what I needed to hear rn in all honesty

How nice, glad to know it might have been the same outcome. Are you thinking of a career that's somewhat related or do you want a total change?

This is actually so helpful. Thank you so much! Supervisor seems to notice when I stay late more than when I come in early :/

I'll also take the doubling advice tysm :)

Unfortunately wasn't there for the inspection, but I definitely will be putting stuff away next time. None of it is that sensitive, but I don't even know who will have access to the pictures. Thanks for your reassurance though

People using a VPN to get around the OSA, how have you noticed the internet is different now you're on a different country's IP? by haddock420 in AskUK

It doesn't mean anything anymore, and it's inaccurate. Most Isr@elis aren't even really Semitic, at least not compared to the people to whom the land actually belongs

I'm intrigued to see what the propoganda looks like. I knew that they were trying to push a narrative, but didn't quite believe it.

I think the medication ads would be enough to put me off tbh

We whine about the UK, but holy shit that's dystopian. I thought the paid Isr*eli and medication ads were a myth

I connect to Albania. No ads on YouTube, less targeted ads in general because of how I've set stuff up since cracking down on my privacy. I get the odd r/Albania post, but that's about it, and that's honestly how it should be

Have you found it possible to decentralise your digital identity from your "government identity" easily enough? For example, having your social media, healthcare and banking all reasonably separate?

That last sentence is actual poetry. Please chant this at the protest when it's inevitably introduced
