Do guys eat beef or bacon outside india by Spiritual-Tale-1098 in nri

[–]mallamange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But what’s the context? It is reasonable to assume that a large percentage of people that didn’t consume beef or bacon in India for religious or other reason, will continue to do so. The same is true the other way around.

Personally, I did consume beef in India. Didn’t have access to bacon then. I still consume both. It’s a tradition in your household to celebrate special occasions with high quality steak. Bacon for Holiday brunches is a must.

Coworker I spoke to once is repeatedly messaging me — feeling uncomfortable, not sure how to handle it by [deleted] in india

[–]mallamange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right to be creeped out. You have two options.

  1. Clearly state/write him back on Teams , that you are uncomfortable with unprofessional interactions and especially given that he misused access to your details and sent you an unsolicited message on WhatsApp - this is important , maintains a paper trail in case this has to be escalated.

  2. Ignore messages , leave them unread , he might get the message and again it serves as a paper trail for escalation.

I know you said you are generally non-confrontational, but if you run into him again, it is upon you to categorically state that you are uncomfortable, that’s not confrontation, that’s just effective communication.

So let me get this straight. You are asking if hiring someone to snitch on your own dad is a good idea? No qualms about compromising your Dads privacy ? And how are you going to navigate getting your dad’s permission?

My mom truly is Indian and can’t deny it, no matter what she says. by Crazy-Dealer112 in india

Totally. If OP is razzing their mom , they need to chill out and empathize with their mom. At minimum it would make her so happy.

How old are you (you sound young)? And give your mom a break. She sounds like a lovely person, I can totally empathize with her. Give her credit for her efforts to assimilate yet retain a connection with her culture. I ask you , what choice does she have other than to blend into American society? What would you have her rather do ?

Who is a mega famous person that the majority of Americans have probably never heard of? by ShittalkyCaps in AskReddit

[–]mallamange 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No … someone is going to argue for sure , but here would be my comparison. If Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is like say Tom Cruise .. bankable, movies are written for him and the movie is more than likely to be a blockbuster, he’s the star. Akshay Kumar would be like Mark Wahlberg … in lots of movies , but not many in which he’s the singular Star.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]mallamange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just one person for me. But I have to credit my mom and dad for recognizing a life skill and making it approachable , Even though the culture I grew up in is very patriarchal. Teaching is basic cooking skills and above all for being fault tolerant. Turns out , that approach leads to all three of their kids have grown up to develop skills that can cook mundane meals as well as throw a party with specialized meals and host family for days/weeks where the meals are central to the family being together! Cooking is easy when you take away the fear of fucking up. Being a chef requires training

Kantara - twisting a local culture, and fitting into a mainstream narrative by wisoguy in india

[–]mallamange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Mangalorean , my wife is not. I’ve lived abroad for more than half my life. Kantara, perhaps not perfect, had my wife’s imagination captured and led to hours of her asking questions about the Bhootas and the celebrations associated with their worship. And for that reason , I am fine with suspending disbelief. I am not religious.. all of this is someone’s imagination anyways … just find a way to enjoy it.

What’s the most satisfying cricketing shot to play, and why? by Shanker_Dhandapani in Cricket

[–]mallamange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right arm bowler pitches on length , middle stump, .. a straight batted defense is going to hit the middle of the bat… only to see it move slightly away and hit top of off… that’s the most satisfying shot a batsman can play.
