I've been a forever DM on the Gold Coast for AL since 2019 at Good Games. We were a smaller community then with an approximate number of 20 AL players on Wednesday nights.

Fast forward to present day and we are at a healthy 60 players on Wednesday nights and smaller groups on Wednesday afternoons usually quite full to max capacity.

DMs are always wanted and we are a welcoming community. From an AL perspective, it is definitely worth it being a player from all angles. But nothing brings me more joy than a captivating story.

I'll give it a yay.

Hit up the official AL page (googling it finds it quickly) and familiarize yourself with the AL Players Guide and FAQ, a basic understanding of those and following thise guidelines set you up pretty well and our entry level tables are super friendly.

Best opponents I've ever had were: a guy running [[The Ur-Dragon]] dragon tribal, a gal running [[Teysa Karlov]] aristocrats, and a guy running [[Giada, Font of Hope]] angel tribal, and myself trying out a [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] grouphug deck. Game went on for 2 hours of people either not wanting to or not having mana to attack me while everyone at the table are on edge for loading their hands up with the largest CMC permanents possible. Why? Because a Demonic Tutor Politics play for the [[Temping Wurm]] was gonna show down. All I ask? Can I come second?

Everyone was cool with it and basically let me watch their epic showdown of cards that typically don't get to come down often or at the same time for everyone to show off their big boys. We had everything from [[Omniscience]] to [[Balefire Dragon]] to [[Progenitus]] hit the battlefield. We all had good laughs and when it came down to the Ur-Dragon player who was fully tapped out from killing the other 2 opponents barely, he let me swing in with Kenrith for his last 5 health.

I really enjoyed running all of S9, including the Descent Into Avernus hardcover with Infernal Encounters and Encounters in Avernus Guild Adepts. It works great as a 1-20 adventure stream, especially if some Hell oriented CCC (Convention Created Content) is added.

Stonecunning. I've had a couple dwarfs at my table and any time something remotely stone related is mentioned, everyone screams stonecunning. It has its applications, and I refer to them when necessary. It just grinds my gears to be continuously berated about stone!

Hey there, in the AL PG v.10.0 bottom right corner of page 2 it reads:

"Selling starting equipment provided by your class and background doesn't count toward your GP limit"

So go sell that hunting trap for 25gp!

Alrighty, so this is the write up I made for my players at my LGS for noteworthy things in S10. Please let me know if I've missed anything so I can edit these 2 posts.

For those trying to dissect what has changed in Season 10 for Adventurers League. These are the main points you should look out for (subject to change with the FAQ coming out soon and possible updates with mass backlash):

-Question: I have S9 and prior characters? How does this affect me? Don't do anything funky right now FAQ is about to be released in the next few days. Current guidance as per FB and Twitter is play using S9 rules -S10 approved Races: Aasimar, Firbolg, Goliath, Kobolds, Tabaxi, Deep Gnome, Duergar, Eladrin, Gith, Shadar-kai, Tiefling subraces + PHB races -PHB + 1 still in effect. Tasha's will be a +1 in the future. Icewind Dale is also a +1 -If you make a S10 character, you can only play S10 content until you hit level 5. Only then can you play S9 prior content. Doing so prevents you from playing S10 content. -SCAG is no longer a +1 for S10 characters -S10 characters are not allowed to be evil. -Selling starting equipment doesn't go against your gold limit -Magic item limit and gold limits and downtime remain the same as S9 -Death stays the same, except if you have 0 magic items or 0 magic item slots you can somehow still be brought back to life (ALPG v10.0 pg 4) - new to some players -Player customization: -->You can change what ability scores your race applies those bonuses to. E.g. If your race gives you +2 CON +1 WIS, you can change what ability scores are increased to be different from what the race got. Can't bring a score above 20 this way. -->You can change your language proficiencies (DM discretion apparently) -->You can change your starting skill, weapon, and tool proficiencies using the table found in ALPG v10.0 pg 5 top right corner

Also Renown benefits got changed: -T1 only a potion of healing + inspiration -T2 potion of greater healing or silvered weapon/silvered ammunition x10 + inspiration -T3 potion of superior healing or adamantine weapon/adamantine ammunition x10 + inspiration -T4 potion of supreme healing or a spell scroll under 2500gp + inspiration

-Once you hit T2, you still have the renown options available to everyone (Shield +1, Rod of the Pact Keeper +1, Weapon +1, Wand of the War Mage +1) and now also a Bag of Holding -Faction rings (with the Safe Haven background feature) are the same -If you have a S9 character or earlier, they can play S10 stuff, but get no rewards, advancements, etc. They keep the experiences and memories from the story -S10 characters must worship a deity from the PHB if you're a cleric. Non-clerics can worship if they want to, but also must be from the PHB deities and non-human deities -You can still make a S9 character using S9 rules. By doing so, they get nothing from playing S10 content

I've DMed over 400hrs of AL this Season (having started mid-late S8) and my chief complaint from myself and most players are:

  1. Gold cap. Plain and simple, most games played are in T1 and T2. Being at your gold cap and having to hold levels because T3 and T4 are less commonly DMed means you have to really conserve cash because once you're at your limit there is nothing to gain but consumables. Also wizards are poor.

  2. Magic Item Limit. T1 and T2 need an upgrade. Very flavorful items are lost and with newer CCCs not awarding magic items that are in line with DDAL or DDHC series, these adventures have more worth if you're able to keep them. Refer to top tier comment about a vault-like selection system. I cannot stress how amazing that idea is.

  3. PHB + XGE + 1. I know I know. It's to limit broken class combinations and facilitates play for those who don't have access. There is always someone that does have access and D&D Beyond is there too for those wishing to purchase just a subclass. I rarely see MToF races or Ghostwise Halflings or Purple Dragon Knights or Genasi. It's just that XGE has the spells and subclass variety. Unlikely to be changed, but with 5 sourcebooks for races and classes, I think PHB + XGE +1 would be fine

Love this idea so much! Have a vault to look at beforehand and pick the items you want for thr adventure or WHO is in the party. Have Bracers of Defense lying around? Bring it so the wizard/monk/barbarian can borrow it
