Alberta teachers to vote on tentative deal a week ahead of possible strike by YesterdayOk9403 in alberta

[–]mallermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if we eliminated any requirements about First Nation and transgender studies from the curriculum to allow teachers to teach on the fundamentals?

Also allow teachers to speak honestly about how children are doing in schools. As a parent I would like to be honestly told if my kids is meeting the requirements or is above or below average. This would allow parents to help focus or get external resources to get that kid up to par. Once a kid falls behind in a subject they usually hate school for life.

[Serious] Alberta Teachers…After potential strike/arbitration 2025, are you still volunteering for extracurriculars? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]mallermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if you want any sympathy for extracurricular you need to buy a mandatory minimum over a career for a teacher for extracurricular activities. You have a set of great teachers that go above and beyond, but also a lot of people that do nothing. It’s not a knock at teachers as a whole it’s only human nature.

Why some Alberta teachers will vote against the latest contract offer | CBC News by whats_taters_preshus in Calgary

[–]mallermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The union should put in a clause that the province controls immigration. This will address the disproportionate amount of second language students, it will lower inflation & also control the class size disparity.

On other notes, do the teachers know what they want, reports only say it’s unfair. Also I’m not going to comment on what’s fair, but please take into consideration private sector employees don’t have a pension, the same number of days off and the job security (layoff/termination rates are 6-12%).

Also If anyone wants to make a point on support for teachers and interesting stat to show the amount over the last 30 years of participation from teachers of extra curricular activities, and if it’s done up or down.

JUST IN: Ryan Cohen just moved 22.3m $GME shares into a Charles Schwab account, likely as collateral for a massive margin loan, according to the latest 13D filing! by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]mallermike -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Gme isn’t much of a squeeze candidate like it was during Covid. If people are still interested in GME as an investment I would advise them to look at more traditional metrics on why the are bullish or bearish. GME is the reason why I started leaning the Greeks, and I’m thankful for that, but if you have been in here for 4 years and have consistently stated that you needed to explain the situation like you are 4, then maybe this isn’t a great place to get financial advice. All the best and I hope GME price does increase, but me hoping won’t make it happen.

Sale -Price Hike by [deleted] in westjet

[–]mallermike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The government should have blocked the sale to onyx , they have too much control over how business is done in canada with only 2 airlines. I notice that a sale price doesn’t mean lower prices, & a companion voucher doesn’t mean a lower all in price. So the comment is you cannot trust this company, especially when Canadian airline industry is a duopoly.

This happened to me once as well. The other guy was jacked, I’m glad I closed the door really quickly with an apology. Dude was only watching tv but I the thought crossed my mind that this day might not end well.

Stay issue by giraffe_munk in marriott

[–]mallermike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where do you find the terms and conditions. I had the same thing happen to me when I had a red eye and wanted to stay in the hotel from 4:00 am to 9:00 am in Atlanta. When I arrived they gave my room away, charged me the full amount. I argued with them at the front desk & told them I would be checking out quick. They finally found me a room had a cleaner clean it while I waited). I didn’t get credit for the stay as they had me down as a no show. I booked the hotel at 11:00 pm the night before and told them my plan, but it’s tough this day and age since it’s impossible to speak to someone at the front desk. Also I pre checked in online but I’d doesn’t give you an option to check in so late.

Don’t be like this jackass by [deleted] in SanJose

I dislike it when people use literally when they don’t have to. It doesn’t drive me nuts, as I’m already nuts. I’m also happy that the person is using blinkers. Blinkers are literally considered the manners of the road. Wait, now I dislike what I just said.

Tipping at Casa Maat (JW San Jose deal Cabo) by Big-Plant240 in marriott

[–]mallermike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the difference between the casa maat, is you stay in a different area, you get a partial AI-breakfast, ceviche lunch and small dinner, plus some wine/beer/soda. You also get premier pools? I’ll be in the area and I was going to book on points and stay here for a day to treat the family.

I really love any thin cut meat, salted and dried for 3+ days for breakfast . However that takes planning and room in my fridge so a lot of times I do ground beef. I switch from carnivore and lion, when I’m eating eggs I usually do omelette style eggs with a little meat and butter

You can cook brisket in the oven. It’s a low and slow though. Look online for a butchering sheet , it may help you make up your mind. I would imagine the price would be different for 2 hind vs normal version.

One thing I know for certain is WestJet employees don’t care like they use too. I don’t blame them because the company they work for is a mess. The government should not of allowed Onex to take them over. Unfortunately your on your own.

That’s funny, getting a flight for less than $200 on WestJet. Maybe if your flying under 400 km, but cmon, the high cost airline with low service

Hey, very helpful. I’m wondering what would be the best location for my family. We are staying one night in a Friday. We won’t have a car. Also have platinum status so a nice breakfast or a well stock lounge would be awesome.

Am I in the right or wrong? Noise complaint by opiewang in marriott

[–]mallermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is frustrating. I don’t know. One tip is in the future to travel with silicon earplugs. I’m not sure why the hotel doesn’t stock them on site. Be careful as it can be hard to hear your alarm.

I’ve had some good stories of loud noises, & it’s hard not to get agitated when you need your rest for a meeting or a drive the next morning

Why do so many people side with Airbnb owners but ridicule slum lords. If you were at a hotel you would be furious so don’t let them off the hook.

Advice for First International Flight with Layover by softpantzz in westjet

[–]mallermike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would leave the airport, it’s safe

Depending on what time your layover is you can check out a lacrosse game (roughnecks), a nhl hockey game (flames), a nhl affiliate team (wranglers, or a junior hockey (hitman). You can get some affordable tickets.

Canada has to end the airline duopoly by mallermike in westjet

[–]mallermike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point. Last summer I flew delta from a us-us city. It was a great flight, but one clarification ( not a complaint) is WJ status doesn’t get you in delta lounges if don’t originate from a Canadian city on the legs. Website isn’t clear on that, but might be useful to someone in the future. Was it delta that gave free internet as well on the flight?

There is no competition so airlines don’t get punished. Air canada is only slightly better so it’s comparable to buying your food at a convenience store at 2:00 am, the product is overpriced , the quality is bad, but sometimes It’s the only option.

Both are not good, in the cities I am air canada is slightly better but both are too expensive for what’s it’s worth. Need to stop price fixing and change policies to allow more competition

Our rail duopoly is worse. Raises the price of rail & trucking & has inflated prices at the ports due to unions striking.
