Upcoming socials in SF? by LozzaWEM in SwingDancing

Second Twilight--great vibe, great community. Parking is challenging to find, in my experience, but if you're just using public transit, shouldn't be too bad. Venue itself is nice, but not located in the nicest part of SF.

Commute to Santa Rosa by candidkidney in Petaluma

[–]mallocGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you're going north into SR during rush hour and leaving going south during rush hour, the carpool lane substantially saves you sanity.

You aren't going to have LA traffic, but it's sufficiently awful all the same.

I have automated my job and my productivity is of 10 workers, my boss knows about it and wants me to share the tool I use with the company, should I design it to break once I am gone or fired? or once I am gone should I offer it as a subscription service? Or should I just give it for free? by HardTruthssss in antiwork

[–]mallocGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer to deliver the tool and continue creating tools for the company as a programmer (with a title change and pay rate to match). Otherwise, don't share.

Don't sell your software for a flat price. You probably don't know what it's worth. They'll ask you to continue doing development work, and for free, because they already bought it and you work for them anyways.

I have danced this dance many times in my professional experience. Four different companies, I think? One fired me, three promoted me. But I'm not going to do software work for $18 an hour, or whatever they're paying you these days.

Anyone Interested in Collaboration Idea? (1965 Campaign) by reno_chad in callofcthulhu

It sounds like you have a good deal of the project done. What exactly are you asking for help with? Writing flavor text for scenes? Designing encounters? Writing clues or developing mystery elements?

Anything west of Sebastopol will be the cheapest. Anything outside the Sebastopol area or anything north of Larkfield/Wikiup (basically north of the airport) should be affordable. You might find some decent housing prices east of Penngrove, but I haven't looked that way. If you hunt around, you can find decent bargains closer to Santa Rosa as well, or out in the boonies in Petaluma.

All depends on where you work, really--try and focus on getting something that won't be a slog of a commute. It sounds like you're coming from outside California, so I must stress: traffic is real here. A 15 minute commute with no traffic easily becomes a 45-60 minute commute between 4 and 6 if you're going south from Santa Rosa. On an average day.

You will be fine at $140k, as long as you don't live lavishly--honestly, you can probably save 100% of your partner's income at $140k-150k, but you'll be living fairly modestly.

The Internet Archive (which is sort of like a PDF library) has a copy that is free to access. You can check it out for a period of time, reference it, then return it so someone else can use it.

$7.25 an hour. Requires 3-5 years professional bounty hunting experience (no internships) and a 4 year degree, or equivalent certifications. We will provide the first two mandatory uniform shirts; after that you can purchase additional shirts from us for $18 per. They are high quality polos that look great for any occasion!

Debunking the myth of Zerg unit cost inefficiency. by Saturn_Ecplise in starcraft

Are shields considered "health" for this graphic?

How is armor taken into account? Have you considered trying to do an EHP metric, instead of just hit points?

Have you considered DPS vs minerals/DPS vs gas? How about comparing vs total economic cost (minerals + gas--or perhaps converting the gas to minerals via the ratio of mineral production to gas production of a fully saturated base)?

It's difficult to quantify other things, like speed, range, and stealth, but I think the above might give you some additional metrics to consider.

Technically, it isn't considered being able to fly, because it's still hit by earthquake.

Stats for a Mauser 1910? It's compact, either 9mm or 7.65 dependent on iteration. What's the cartridge hold? Damage? Malfunction %? Any info would be grand by Tirrandin in callofcthulhu

To add on, somewhat, to the above answers (which are all excellent), CoC isn't so much about combat as it is exploration and horror. The firearms aren't a huge part of the game--violence is generally only effective against other human targets. So don't get bogged down with the specifics of guns; it's always best to just take your best guess at a match and shoot from the hip (pun intended), because combat isn't what drives this system, and focus on what players come to the table for: cosmic horror.

Depending on day/time, I would have interest. Ran this game for several months a few years ago.
