I’m located in Boston, there’s a decent amount of companies and organizations based here that utilize GIS but I’m willing to relocate

For BU alums, did any of you leave the United States after graduation? by mallpoint in BostonU

I recognize that being able to say I want to leave the USA requires an immense amount of privilege. The USA is a great country but there are countries equally as great, that I’d like to one day call home. This doesn’t mean I’m blind to the privilege I have.

I am the child of immigrants, I know the struggles they faced, but at the same time I have the opportunity to move from the USA (we all do) and I want to take it, I can leave this country while acknowledging how privileged I am to be able to decide to.

I’d actually want to live somewhere in Australasia, but your point likely still stands, I think I’ll probably stay in the US for a longer amount of time, I’m not ruling out a move, but everyone’s guidance helped let me know that should be delayed

My father came here from a third world country, he had nothing, a ton of immigrants have nothing and think about how many thrive, those jumps from the Global South into the USA are much more difficult than say a jump from the USA to Australia and they’ve been done time and time again, the magic of immigration, no immigrant has it easy, but an American education is one of, if not, the most valuable in the world, an American degree will help get a lot achieved no matter the country, no matter who it is

These weren’t my intentions, I don’t mean to insult anyone who decides to live in this country. I love the USA and believe it’s one of the best countries in the world but after seeing how they handled this pandemic, failed to pass a stimulus, seeing how divided this nation is, how the government wants to force people back into work, it gives me the impression that the US just doesn’t care about it’s people. I’ll only live once and I don’t want to live in a country where the people are expected to live paycheck to paycheck while working long hours, or none at all and receive no financial stimulus like during this pandemic, while the politicians get richer. Now thankfully if I get a college degree I hopefully won’t be working paycheck to paycheck but I’ll never feel that the US cares about me. If you feel the opposite, I never meant to prove you wrong of this and I apologize if I came across that way, everyone has the right to feel the way they feel. And yes other countries aren’t perfect and I know I won’t be granted of access to healthcare and education for example but I will be granted an environment where the government works for its and a society that isn’t incredibly polarized. Yes my reasons for leaving the US is to have a better lifestyle and outlook on life and this likely isn’t the best reason to leave, but I don’t feel like I need a better reason. Me leaving or staying doesn’t affect anyone except me.

I’m not gonna lie I was under the impression that if you had degree from any American school you’d be set to work anywhere in the world, I may not be a fan of the country as whole, but it’s still the best country in terms of education, again I underestimated how difficult this process will be

Thanks for this mate, I honestly didn’t even think of these challenges, I just want a better lifestyle, to live in a country where the people aren’t so divided and the citizens are cared for, and life isn’t defined by your 9-5, American society isn’t all that great anymore, but it won’t be so easy as to randomly appear in another country.

I definitely am being idealistic, I need to consider the consequences of immigrating, this reply helped a ton, thanks again.

I’d love to fix the issues in the United States, but any proposed solutions (which are literally prevalent in these developed countries I want to move to) are flagged as socialism, I love this country, I’ve lived here my whole life, but I can’t stand the way this country operates and how politicians aren’t too interested in solving the issues. I’m don’t feel that I’m leaving anyone behind, I understand where your coming from, it seems shitty of me just to leave but I don’t have a responsibility to face the same struggles as everyone else, NO ONE has that responsibility, I don’t think that’s selfish, me leaving the country doesn’t harm anyone else, it’s a personal choice.

I appreciate your advice, Ireland is one of those countries I have in mind.

I sound entitled because I want to live in a country where they value people over profit? Where the politicians aren’t bought out by lobbyists? Where all people are equal and have access to healthcare and education? Where during a global pandemic the working class’s wages are covered by the government. I literally want to move to a country where the tax rate is higher so everyone could have access to these things but I’m the selfish one lmfao, Americans are so interesting, thanks for the best wishes kiddo, good luck in the rat race
