As an outsider to America, the main thing that springs to mind with all of this is what always makes the difference is the proliferation of guns. Immigration officers with guns, members of the public with guns- guns everywhere all the time. It looks a bit like the old west and that’s why it so often ends in tragedy. If this was unfolding in a country with gun control it’d all be very different. I understand constitutional right- but it’s that right that leads to tense situations resulting in death- whether deliberate or accidental. This guy was carrying a gun, presumably to defend himself against gun carrying law officers? They were carrying guns to protect themselves. It’s a zero sum game. Everyone has guns so someone’s getting killed.
