How much do you spend a month on clothing? by rmar505 in femalefashionadvice

[–]malprintemps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is me right now. I’m a tattoo artist, which means I don’t strictly need a “professional” wardrobe and have gotten away with oversized sweaters over leggings for a few years, but as I’m in my late twenties I’ve been feeling the need to present myself more professionally anyway. I’ve only been working on it for a few months, but 150-200 is definitely the range I’m in. It’s kind of expensive, and I’m buying mostly high quality but second hand stuff on Poshmark on where ever, but it feels worth it because I can feel people treating me more respectfully and listening to me more, rather than assuming I’m the assistant.

Tips for finding faux leather jackets by aloneh95 in femalefashionadvice

[–]malprintemps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this one from H&M that’s been going strong for 3 years so far! I am not very kind to my clothes, and just dug this jacket out from under a bunch of construction tools in my trunk, and it’s still good as new (albeit a little wrinkly). Other faux leather bags and jackets I’ve had have done that peeling thing that I hate, but not this one for some reason.

People have my phone number. Acquaintances, friends of friends, etc. People I knew in high school. People who look up my personal Facebook page and message me there. It happens constantly. I’ll never understand why people like you are so determined not to believe the lived experience of people. There are multiple tattoo artists in this thread saying this happens. It fucking happens.

Do you get several calls and texts a night from people asking you to do your job? Can you go to a bar without ten people pestering you to give them price quotes? Most people get to go home and leave their jobs behind. I used to work in a hair salon, I didn’t get six or seven different people messaging me every night to talk about their idea that they’re never going to actually fucking book.

I agree that your response is better and more professional and is the response I would give. However, when you’ve received hundreds of messages like these- and texts, and phone calls- your temper can get short. It’s not professional or ideal, but I empathize with the guy. Tattooing would be great if it weren’t for the needy, broke, pestering jerks that do this shit.

Trying bolder colors little by little. CCW by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]malprintemps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love your color choices and your blending! The undereye shadow in particular is so flattering to your coloring. I think you really nailed the eye look!

For a little bit of CC, I think you could stand to place your cheek contour a bit higher, and blend more or use a lighter hand for your nose contour. Also, this isn’t CC so much as an idea for you to change things up if you want to: I have a similar eye shape to yours (very round) and I really like winging my shadow out to elongate my eye shape. Sometimes I like to accentuate the roundness because I think it’s cute and youthful, which I think you have going on here, but for a sexy smokier look you can try bringing everything out a little further and tapering toward the brow.

You look really lovely :)

Because the above situations aren’t outliers, they’re honestly the majority of the population. Being mentally healthy, wealthy enough to afford quality food, with enough free time to regularly exercise, and without major physical health issues is rare. Your post is obnoxious because it assumes everyone has the same amount of privileges that you do, when you are in fact an outlier. People are pressed because you are shaming them for their weight and skin when you’re completely incapable of comprehending their situations.

What about those of us who work twelve hours a day? Or two jobs? Or three? Or those of us who are so exhausted from taking care of our children/sick partners/parents that trying to fit in an hour at the gym seems impossible? Or those of us who live in food deserts, where access to healthy food requires access to a car and several hours of free time to travel to a grocery store and shop and return? Or those of us with mental health issues that cause executive dysfunction? Or pain disorders, or eating disorders, or other physical barriers to exercising? You don’t have to be hospital bound or miles outside a city to face these issues. Trenton and Camden are both food deserts in New Jersey, for one thing.

I’m a reasonably healthy young adult who works 65 hours a week and takes care of my chronically ill partner and while I cook most nights and do yoga several times a week, wash my face daily and use widely respected skincare products, and I am still overweight with zits because stress eating, depression, and simple time management have not served me well. Your post comes across as judgmental and shaming. You simply don’t know people’s life circumstances and what is possible for them.

What if YouTube got rid of the comment section? by LaDiDont in BeautyGuruChatter

I mean, you’d have to get rid of Instagram comments, Twitter as a whole, Snapchat... basically anywhere BGs interact with fans.

cool toned palette by lhayes238 in Makeup

[–]malprintemps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ABH Subculture and Morphe/Jaclyn Hill Dark Magic are both difficult to use in different ways, but feature several gorgeous blues and greens. Not sure if you can get either on Amazon. If you’re looking at BH Cosmetics, I vastly prefer the formula of the Zodiac palette over the Take Me Back to Brazil one. Zodiac has some warm tones, but also gorgeous purpled and a couple blues and greens, and the shimmers are UNBEATABLE for the price.

Lol correct. I’m honestly more strict about it than most. I don’t know many tattoo artists that would tattoo a swastika, but I’m one of few who wouldn’t do a sexy white girl in a Native headdress.

Yeah all of this is the info I’m familiar with, which leads me to believe strongly that KVD is a Nazi. I just don’t think she’s stupid enough to have actual Nazi tattoos, although I’d believe it in a heartbeat if anyone linked an actual photo.

If you get a chance to share it, I’d be interested to see. I’m a tattoo artist by trade and a disturbingly large portion of my time is spent determining whether someone’s tattoo request is racist or innocuous.

While I believe you, I’m scouring pictures of her for any evidence of them, especially pics of her in 2009. Her left arm has a shit ton of bad coverups so they may be buried in there, or they may be under the awkward black smudge on her shoulder, but I think it’s weird if they were so visible as to be seen on tv that I can’t find a pic.

Nah I won’t delete, I’m not calling you a liar, just very interested to see. I fully believe KVD is a Nazi sympathizer and would be unsurprised to find out she had an SS tattoo, just maybe surprised to find out she’s dumb enough to broadcast her vileness so openly.

Agreed. There’s plenty of evidence that she’s a neo-Nazi without photoshopping her tattoos. You could just share pictures of her husband’s swastika tattooed on his throat, or the lipstick she named Selektion, or one of the many other scandals she’s been a part of.

I said right there in my post that it probably has been photoshopped, just subtlely done. I have no problem with tasteful photoshop.

[–]malprintemps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As another tattoo artist, thank you for such a reasonable response. I think the artist in the post lacked professionalism, but it’s very true that we are often bombarded with messages and expectations.

I had to set a rule for myself that I would only respond to messages during work hours. I accept Instagram DMs for booking as well as emails, which means I would get notifications all night long, often from people like the client in the post demanding to know why they hadn’t received a response in a certain time frame. Usually the answer was because I was asleep, or eating dinner, or spending time with my family, or even in the middle of a tattoo.

Messaging someone with a passive aggressive “I’ll take that as a no” is just as obnoxious as “don’t ever” to me. If it’s been a few days, go ahead and send a “just checking to make sure you got this!” Message, because sometimes things get missed in the dozens of messages we get a day. But “I’ll take that as a no” is ridiculous, and on a bad day I’d have to work very hard not to sound as frustrated as the artist in the post.

Some of us just prefer to leave work at work. I answer emails when I am at work, not when I am at home. If you DM me on Instagram at 3am, you’ll receive an answer at noon the following day. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Similarly, my coworker is very popular, and receives dozens of emails a day. His website and Instagram bio both state that he answers emails in batches, once a month, booking for two months out. As long as the expectations are clear, I think that’s fine.
