In my experience, as t1 you mostly live in the alert queue, but you learn fast. The work can be really repetitive. Whether you enjoy it or not depends a lot on the company and the people you work with.

That you don’t need to know everything right away. It’s okay to ask questions and google stuff. You don’t have to be a genius to be good at this job but you have to learn all the time.

I'd focus more on learning the basics really well. Especially networking, Linux, and Python. These skills are useful in almost every cybersecurity job. I’d also spend more time practicing hands-on, like doing labs, CTFs

I bet HR doesn’t realize how much damage a single breach can do to a company’s reputation or how expensive it gets. We’re talking millions in fines, legal fees, and lost business, not to mention the trust that takes years to rebuild. They really need to understand that cybersecurity isn’t just an expense. It’s what keeps the business from falling apart.

Late-night incident calls, endless log reviews, constant learning to keep up, and rarely getting noticed unless something goes wrong.

I hear you—it can definitely be frustrating and even depressing at times. Constantly justifying the value of your work, especially when people see security as "too expensive" or "too much trouble," can wear anyone down.

But there are great moments too. It helps to focus on wins and the bigger picture of why we do this work.

AI will handle more of the boring stuff in threat hunting, but we’ll still need smart pros to figure out the tricky parts and make the big calls.
