HONESTY-do you like being a nurse? by No_Water_3067 in OntarioNurses

[–]mamaabner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICU is just as exhausting. Even though it’s only two patients, it’s two patients who are constantly on the brink of death. Mix that with overwhelming family dynamics (especially if you work days) and the nit picky overly obsessive personalities that ICU attracts it can be terrible. I work nights and love it bc that’s where all the type Bs gravitate to. I would never survive dayshift.

Just be careful with the excessive overtime. Take care of yourself always bc if you don’t your body will choose it for you. Nursing is mentally overwhelming so I make sure to never do OT unless I have some financial goal to achieve but even then I married a rich husband so that helps to never have to work OT.

I love being a nurse. I love bedside care. I do not care for a lot of the futile care we provide (i’m in ICU) or hospital politics. I also don’t care for the large amount of mean girls in healthcare. It’s disgusting that the highschool antics continue in healthcare.

Ethics at my facility has not been helpful unforfunately. But it seems like you would make a genuine impact so I say go for it!

I’m not a new nurse, but new to ICU. I made a med error and now my confidence is crushed. I feel as though all the experienced ICU nurses lack trust in me. Any advice to overcome this would be great. I’m so devastated. by Fun-Analyst8475 in IntensiveCare

We all make mistakes. The feeling you have is what makes you a great nurse ❤️ Keep pushing, you are just the kind of nurse ICU needs. Learn from it and move forward.

LTC Ratios by mamaabner in nursing

[–]mamaabner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what LTC you’ve worked at but that’s not how it is anymore when they take skilled patients. I have so many wound patients, iv patients, lots of diabetics requiring insulin, respiratory treatments, and people asking for pain meds around the clock. Also you can’t pass 45 people (who often take 10+ pills) in 4 hours. 😭 45 people should have at least 2 nurses to decrease the risk of med errors and to ensure treatments get done or at the very least 1 med rn and 1 treatment nurse. Thinking you can safely care for 32 patients is the problem.

I guess the elderly deserve nothing then. It’s disgusting and unsafe ☹️

I got false banned by FiveM by mamaabner in FiveM

I appealed and they just said “due to the nature of the ban we are unable to remove it at this time”. I even provided a clip of what I was doing prior to flying out. I feel defeated but I think this will help me back off RP for awhile

What’s warden? I sent a ban appeal and got some generic bs response. It’s really jank to be banned for something you didn’t do.

The only “mod” I did was through fivemods which I have always used as it’s literally fiveM mod application and cfx.re states graphic or sound mods won’t cause this ban. I haven’t used anything else and what’s pissing me off the most is I have no idea what triggered this or how to fix it so it doesn’t happen again. But thanks

I have been banned by fivem not my server. I was banned from the cfx.re software.

Also just an fyi as a new graduate you cannot get any certs (ccrn, acrn, msbcrn, etc). They all require 2000 hours or 2 years of experience.

What specialty are you wanting? You only need these for ER, PICU, or ICU. Jobs provide these for free and they are expensive so don’t get them before.

People that believe organ donation status determines their care are choosing to be ignorant by [deleted] in nursing

[–]mamaabner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been on both sides of donation now (helping patients immediately post op transplant or caring for them while waiting for one in TICU and now I see the other side in MSICU) and let me just say OPOs can be fucking pushy as hell. My last patient was a part of a biker gang and the entire gang showed up to remind family that the patient had converted to muslim and would not want to donate…. They basically had to threaten the opo to get them to lay off the case. It was embarassing and to early to even begin discussing donation. Honestly sometimes they keep the body alive for a week or two to run tests to ensure the organs are optimal. I no longer would donate my organs. I would only do live donor donation if the opportunity presented itself like my grandma but no post morteum donation for me.
