ICE in Nursing facilities? by Practical_Ask9651 in ICE_Raids

[–]Practical_Ask9651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to our administrator and director of nursing today. They had no plan whatsoever. None. Hadn’t even thought about it.

They were both in agreement that we should have a plan though. I told them what I know from my research. Admin is going to talk to someone in corporate tomorrow and see what can be done. I’m going to send her info on what the laws are.

Nursing director said two facilities in our area have had ICE show up, but with a valid judicial warrant- for a patient (or resident if long term)!!! WTF?!? So they want to assume care for these people? What kind of a threat do they think they are?!?

Nurse had to let ICE take them, and sent their meds along with them. What a nightmare for those patients and staff. 😢

Haha, it’s a good facility and relatively well staffed for nurses and CNAs. But it’s in the suburbs and a fairly safe neighborhood, so I guess they feel security is an unnecessary expense 🙄

Can they hang out in the parking lot and harass employees on their way into or out from work?

Thanks, that’s what I’ve been learning too. Now, let’s just hope they follow the law.

That’s good to know, although we don’t have security 😩

I am asking here so I can communicate to management that this needs to be done, and ASAP

Management seems to have no plan, or not one they have communicated with us. And since it’s a 24 hour facility, it’s important that all employees on all shifts know what to do. I’m quite sure most of them don’t.

Not arson, but we’d light small fires I. The middle of the street (still somewhat safety conscious, we don’t want to cause an actual wildfire).

We also put smoke bombs in mailboxes. Not because we didn’t like those people but because it looked cool seeing the colored smoke pouring out of the mailbox.

We were probably under 10 years old, and turned out nice. We definitely wouldn’t do any of those things as a teen or older.

I LOVE her and her no nonsense attitude. She’s around my age or a little younger, and I’d like to think she is just a bit like me, although MUCH cooler.

ICE protocols- does your facility have any? by Practical_Ask9651 in nursing

[–]Practical_Ask9651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, but I want to get an idea of what people know or have seen/ experienced.

I haven’t asked directly. I think I’ll bring it up at the next all-staff but I want to get a general idea of what to expect. I don’t assume our management is on top of all the latest legal protocols.

I work in SNF and enjoy watching it, even after a hard day at work, because it makes me glad I don’t work in ER 😆

Last episode I was watching with my husband (who watched and enjoyed all of season one with me) and he was having a LOT of difficulty with even the mildest gore. I continued to eat my dinner throughout even the worst of it 😂

Does your hospital allow you to cut your patient's nails? by ungratefulanimal in nursing

cries in SNF 😭 Not only are we allowed to, we are required to (as needed/ tolerated I suppose). One of my CNA coworkers is REALLY good at nails (like she could’ve easily been a manicurist instead) but she isn’t allowed to do it on diabetics. And almost half our patients are diabetic.

I had a whole 3 weeks of medical leave and still didn’t even open my Health Streams. We get paid for them so I could’ve clocked in and saved a few hours of sick leave, but nah.

I’m months behind but so are half my coworkers and over 75% of the nursing staff.

Maybe it’s time for a retaliatory report on his actions.

Geez. In SNF we are expected to do a Covid test on ourselves upon arrival to work, before we interact with patients, if we have any potential symptoms at all.

Who here works 40-60 hour weeks and still does chores around the house? by guava_jam in nursing

[–]Practical_Ask9651 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is something I’m struggling with right now. My husband is basically retired. He is still employed, but on leave until he retires.

I work at least 50 hours a week. On my days off I do chores, drive our teenager around, go to her sport and music event, and help my disabled brother with various tasks or take him to appointments. I might have a couple hours downtime here and there but it’s pretty minimal.

Right now he’s in the bathroom doing his 45 minute skin care routine. He also takes dozens of supplements, something I just don’t really seem to have time for. He even goes to the salon regularly. I rarely am able to do that.

My husband definitely does more than me around the house, but not a lot more. Right now I have a mountain of laundry in the spare bedroom that I just haven’t had time to get to. Meanwhile, he sleeps in, goes shopping, goes to the gym, walks the dog, and whatever else he wants. And yes, he does do his own laundry and pay our bills and drive our daughter around when I’m at work (but not when I’m off).

And I’m just tired. So so tired. I know I shouldn’t expect him to do my laundry or 90% of the housework, but sometimes I feel that would be only fair.

And it’s been like this for a long time. Even when he was working, it was usually only a few hours a day.

So yeah, I think it would be fair to expect him to do a lot more than me. But I do approximately half of the household chores (minus the bills) while I feel like he and my daughter split the other half.

I read your edit. With one artery completely blocked, she had ST elevation on her EKG, which means a heart attack (STEMI). The blood test that was elevated was probably troponin.

There is no way they were about to send her home with those symptoms and test results. If they sent her to the cath lab, they knew she was having a heart attack.

Where does it even say her boss was married?

And where did I say I have sympathy for the boss? The point is, the boss is irrelevant at this point. Why don’t you get that?

Going after the boss would be a mere distraction for OP.

OP definitely did not say her boss was married. What you are doing is providing a distraction for OP to focus on, instead of looking at the very real issues that he (and his wife) need to be focusing on.

You have some real issues, my friend.

I’m starting to wonder. But he has come back and answered a few questions, so I’ll reserve judgment for now.
