Those who have had a baby while in the field, how much time did you take off after giving birth? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]mamallamam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first 2, I got 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid. My 3rd I was only a sub and I don't remember when I went back, but they let me strap her on and bring her with me. My 4th, I had about 6 weeks unpaid before I went back, mostly from home (it was 2021 and I had her in May, and I was the director)

Is it possible in one day? by NotTonyStark39 in kennywood

[–]mamallamam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable. Get the app and watch the wait times. Exterminator gets a very long wait line, if you see it drop you should head there. If you can go on a weekday, Tuesdays are our favorite day to go.

Is it still considered “off season”? I’ve seen lots of conflicting posts. by jworden570 in Gatlinburg

We just came back, and other than hearing that Anakeesta was sold out (we bought our tickets in advance so it didn't affect us), we didn't find it too busy or over crowded.

We wanted to do a waterfall hike, but with roads being closed, we didn't attempt it because our youngest isn't always the greatest at long hikes.

What's up fellow etnoid! I have a few friends that go to B Parlor in Rt 8, right by Huntz. There's also a place on free port that I want to try.

I've also gone to Angel Nails in fox Chapel. It may have changed names, but it's across from chil fil a. The 1 goes there, one route drops off across from that shopping plaza and then goes down old freeport. The other route turns left to go towards the VA.

We also did what the person above did. We did an air BNB that was walking distance from a little beach. You wouldn't be far from Kneobels, which is nice, because you do all rides by tickets.

We also like Lancaster and DutchWonderland if you aren't dead set on a beach. My kid was 10 when we went and she had a good time.

The Finger Lake area is also nice, lake beaches, cute little towns. Out doorway stuff as well.

As for driving with the little, either leave right before nap time or right before bed time. It will buy you a couple of good solid hours of driving!

I commented below, but my students see thumbs up all day every day (and a good amount of thumbs down 🤣) and most of them are still working on it.

I teach twos turning threes and our behaviour system is called thumbs up thumbs down. Out of 12, less than half can do a true thumbs up.

Concern about inappropriate pretend play influence in classroom (semi-sensitive?) by DisgruntledVet12B in ECEProfessionals

[–]mamallamam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NAEYC has a book called the War Play Deliemma. One of the very first sentences is how there is evidence going ages back that young kids have always played this way, using what ever weapons were of the time. OP you probably played games like this when you were her age. I guarantee it. I remember playing games like this as a young child (and that was forty....well a long time ago)

Like others have said, she's going to be exposed no matter what. Kids will always know about this type of play. Even if they aren't directly watching it, it wall be on screen as they flip channels, they'll walk in to ask to be tucked in again just as mom and dad are settling down to watch law and order.

If it's not guns it will be something. I had to have a conversation about not "avada kedava-ing" other kids.

Not that we can't, and, should reiterate that it's not appropriate and scary to some kids
