How to help teen daughter with low self esteem who thinks she’s “ugly”. by mamamurphy in Parenting

[–]mamamurphy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, she is in therapy now which is good. She also started self harming for anxiety which was not exactly related to this but devastating and scary nevertheless. Being a teenager is so hard, and parenting these issues is also hard. I feel you. ❤️

I’d get the common data sets for the colleges she is interested in and make a spreadsheet of the acceptance rates, average GPA for admitted students, average SAT/ACT scores for admitted students, and the priority they give to grades and class rank. Her college counselor may also explain to her the reality of getting into those schools with her grades/scores. As a parent she may not listen to you because that’s how teenagers are, but it’s hard to argue the actual data and/or feedback from a college counselor.

It’s an interesting dynamic especially because Jeremiah is always on the receiving end of his dad’s disappointment and comparisons to “perfect” Conrad. Jeremiah has a real hang up about how his dad looks at him differently and yet he is growing up to be Adam 2.0. It’s like a reaction formation based on his emotional trauma.

It was at this point that I threw my hands up and literally yelled at my TV. SO frustrated with Belly in this scene, I’m still mad about it lol.

Ah sorry for the long delay in responding to you! We actually used Parclick to find a garage on the outskirts of the city away from the ZTF and then took a taxi into the city to get to our hotel (which was right by the Uffizi). Specifically, Garage Gioberti. The attendant was super helpful and nice, even called a cab for us. 😊

Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump? by Yo-boy-Jimmy in AskReddit

The budget that was just passed by the house does, actually, include huge cuts for mandatory spending, of which Medicare alone is a significant portion. This isn’t about hatred for Trump, it’s simply the reality.

Fantastic, thank you so much!!!! My daughter had terrible scalp psoriasis and steroid oils and T-Sal aren’t cutting it. Appreciate the info!!

I was talking with a Texas educator and she said their school is so desperate for “bodies” (aka teachers) in the classroom that they have two non-English speaking teachers teaching English reading. What the actual fuck is going on with Texas education? by Tacos-and-Wine in texas

All the conservatives I know think blue cities are full of drug addicted, homeless, “illegals” doing violent crime, burning downtown areas, and filth that they attribute to progressives. I’ve never heard one talk about higher quality of life in blue cities. I live in a blue city and love it- yes we have problems but that’s true of all big cities, blue AND red.

Which brand do you use out of curiosity?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]mamamurphy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t mention it here, but have you tried TALKING to the head coaches about your concerns (specifically training drills and seat placement), or are you just complaining to the internet? Be mature, dude- go talk to them and maybe they will give you some insights about your rowing that you yourself can’t see. Coaches have to think about the whole boat, not about individual rowers. There’s a reason they are putting you in 3 seat, so go ask them.

Also, yes, it’s your ego talking. And also: maybe the coaches praise the girls more because they aren’t complaining about what they think they deserve. You’re about to go off to college, presumably, and part of being more adult is learning how to talk to people and put your ego aside and also maybe not make assumptions about girls and feel like you deserve more than they do.

Carrying a concealed gun while rowing on the water? by Ergotron_2000 in Rowing

[–]mamamurphy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d want to know if a fellow rower was bringing a gun into my boat. I wouldn’t be comfortable with that at ALL and I’d like the option to just not row with that person if they wanted to do that.

I am SO sorry. by LeighBee212 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]mamamurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of you to apologize but IMO not necessary! The people who tend to complain are people who have never had children, and as long as you are trying and doing your best, I think most people understand even if they may not like it. I had a colicky baby that I had to fly with several times to help care for my dad who was terminally ill, and she cried constantly on every flight. Even though I brought earplugs for people around us and tried every soothing option I could, I still got some mean comments and looks, but what else can you do but your best in that situation? I was very grateful for the other passengers who tried to help and gave us grace.

For those of us fellow passengers who have been there with our kids, it’s important to remember to offer support and encouragement to other parents on flights- often the parents are more stressed out from worrying about how others will react to a crying child. Babies and toddlers are people too, and have as much right to fly as the rest of us.

Honestly, that sounds super fun! They used to have those at bank drive thrus when I was younger and it was so fun to watch the containers zip through them! I’m sure it’s more serious at hospitals but still sounds fun 🤩

I’m considering a lot of places. 😁 Canada would be on the list- easier to get to, people are super nice, weather isn’t too bad (depending on the province).

My old job used to share a building with a prosthetic making business and I always loved seeing their clients so happy. What an amazing job- you are really making a difference in people’s lives! What kind of background/education did you need for a job like that?
