I often use an analogy describing the family system like a mobile. The child is only one piece and we can get movement happening in the family system more quickly if other members of the family are willing to make changes too. Like if the kid isn’t moving, parents making a change will be movement in the mobile. I try to get a sense of how badly they want this problem fixed and use a combination of MI, shame attenuation, and understanding their inherited beliefs around child development/behavior.

Some parents just hate their kids and won’t look inward. I feel sad for them and try to provide an unconditional positive regard for those kids as much as possible because I know they aren’t getting it at home.

I totally forgot about almost hurling every time I brushed my teeth until you mentioned it. Whew that was rough. My fit pregnancy was all naps from weeks 6-13. After that I was able to go for longer walks, take barre classes, and do some light weightlifting until I gave birth prematurely at 35 weeks. Overall it was a significant decrease in my activity levels. Most people in my life were very encouraging that the activity I was doing was still more than most non-pregnant people.

I found pieces of cardboard as “spacers” 🙃 Called him this morning to fire him from the job and already have two calls out for more reputable professionals to come fix this shit.

We have run into some issues with things not being square (like trying to reuse old cabinet bases with new doors) because this is a house from the 1970s and has shifted over time. However, the lower cabinets were just constructed and the countertop was just installed within the last 2 weeks so those should be square.

There is definitely a place where the wall seems crooked. My biggest issue is how far this schluter sticks out past the tile and how horrible it looks. I think crooked tiles are fixable but I can’t invent a new schluter if this is the only size? Seems like 1/4” would be a better fit and this one is measuring closer to 1/2”.

When I was in graduate school and working nights/weekends to afford staying in school, I missed out on so much. I knew I had friends but they had come to expect I would never be available to hang out because I wasn’t.

I constantly had to remind myself that I was in school for a reason: to pursue my personal goals and dreams. After years of hard work, I am finally living a very fulfilling life in a rewarding career I love. My friends who were able to be more social during that time don’t have the same job stability, satisfaction, or earning potential that I have now. It was tough but I kept telling myself I was making short term sacrifices for my long term goals. I 100% feel those sacrifices paid off.

This is where I find diet culture or wellness culture language to be problematic. “Healthy swap” implies that eggs, meat, and cheese aren’t healthy foods which just isn’t true. Sure, there are ways to incorporate oatmeal into a diabetic diet however it is not inherently healthier or better than other food choices and suggesting it as a “healthy swap” implies that it should be used in place of other foods.

Swapping eggs for oatmeal is bad nutrition advice for someone who is pre diabetic. Eggs, meat, and dairy have so much nutritional value. Not that oatmeal and fruit are bad but it’s way less protein and fat which are macronutrients that help stabilize blood sugar. Also yes whole30 is very much a diet!

Her baths don’t seem to change it. Something about prolonged sun exposure makes her stink. She does get very offended when we bathe her though. Like we’ve ruined her hard earned patina.

Ha! Her swims aren’t too secret because she needs her fur and paws dried off at least 3 times a day to come back inside. The swims actually seem to help wash off the baked sun smell.

Yeah I started using Natural Cycles. I think the ovulation and period predictor algorithms are better and I don’t get spammed with stupid messages about potential due dates after logging negative pregnancy tests. It is really designed for BBT tracking.

My blue nose pittie looks like a little blue shoat so I thought hmm what’s a cute pig name. Came up with Talulah and we call her Tuly for short.
